What is the purpose of these miniscans? Presumably EUMETSAT is carrying out
planned procedures as part of the commissioning process - I'd be interested to
know more. Haven't seen any explanation on their web site.

Subject: [MSG-1] MSG licence for French users

Hello.
I had today a phone conversation with someone at Meteo France who is
in charge of the licencing in France.
I was asking for the delivery of the EKU by Eumetsat (Eumetsat's
help desk told me that they were waiting for Meteo France to send
back the licences of french users).
A nice woman told me that the licences will be issued free of charge
for French users assuming that they use MSG data for self-education
or amateur use and that they don't broadcast the received data on
Internet in real time.
That's good news for French users !
We'll have only to pay for the EKU (and of course for Tellique
client and receiving equipment).
All French users registered by Eumetsat will receive a "convention"
they'll have to fill in and send back to Meteo France who will
forward the agreement to Eumetsat.
This "convention" will be sent by e-mail or by snail-mail, depending
on the informations given by the users on their registration form.
Fabrice, F5HCC.

It is supposed to be in an orbital move from 10W to 3.5W, but the most

It would be fun to watch this drift and see how the image quality of data
from the eastern limb improves with orbital position!

David,

same set of data on NASA OIG.

By checking the last 5 TLEs, it doesn't look like there is a definite
pattern, as TLEs are separated by anywhere from 2 to 6 days, and in
one case there were two TLEs few minutes apart.

Too bad!

Bye, Luca

Dutch licenses.

johnrigsec@...

All,

I have been informed by Arne that the Dutch licenses are actually written in
English despite what was originally posted.
Ferdinand has conformed there is no handling charge in Holland for issuing of
licenses.

One thought - if you already had an EKU from EUMETSAT during the trial period
and for those who will be applying now, EUMETSAT will not, I understand,
'switch on' your EKU till they have received confirmation from the national Met.
Offices that they have in turn received your signed license agreement back.

But then, I thought, you would not be offered the ability to purchase the EKU
by EUMETSAT till they had been informed of your licensed status.

Anyway .....

Regards,
John Tellick.
RIG.

Re: MSG Licenses in "overseas" countries?

fvalk <fvalk@...>

Just to clarify, it is correct that the dues for the SKU and the software need
to be paid. However that has nothing to do with the KNMI. Its position has been
very constructive and cooperative in this affair and there is no charge by KNMI
for the service of handling the licenses.

Anyway, back to the topic... I read that the UK Met Office has sent
out quite a few licenses for MSG-1 reception, a needed step in order
to get the eToken from EUMETSAT.

Did anybody else in other countries have seen any similar activity
from the local licensing authority? Haven't heard anything here in
Belgium for sure yet...
Yup,

got mail from the dutch "KNMI", being the licensing authority.

John,

The Dutch licenses are for a period of three years and no handling charges
apply.

Ferdinand

From: johnrigsec@...

I'd be interested to hear from Arne how long the Dutch licenses are
valid and from users in other member states if they have been charged
and how long their licenses are valid.

It seems we might have to do a little bit more persuading?

John Tellick.

Lloyds charged me about 5 (possibly less, I forget)

Gerald, thanks for the mail.
Yes 40 Euros is about 28 and my bank will charge 14 for the transfer so it
would indeed be nice if Visa was an option.
I worked for my bank for 30 years and still have to pay the charges (
miserable lot !!! )
