Hello Vincenzo,
You probably did the update correctly. But with so many version numbers it can be confusing. Eumetsat's update consists of the Skystar/Technisat driver, which most of us don't need to update as the same version was already included on the EUMETCast Client Software V4 CDROM. To check this Rightclick the (hopefully) green Sat Icon in the tray and choose "About DVB Receiver" This should list Version 4.3.0 for all instances. As Douglas mentioned newer versions are available and these might work perfectly but are not the recommended/tested one. To check if the recommended EKU-software has been installed correctly, look in "Add/Remove programs" for "eToken Run Time Environment 3.65" The Tellicast version is shown in the uppermost "About tc-recv" and should read 2.4.4 B ....... Looking at the logs...
... can be helpful.
In short: I took my preliminary receiver-computer apart and put a new machine together. More speed (800 vs. 500 Mhz), more memory (1 G vs. 768 M), more disk space (250+40 vs. 40 alone). Win2k, brought to the latest SP state. Reinstalled Technisat drivers, server4PC is running, Tellique (the well know version), EKU-driver. The dongle-LED is on, green dot, pink T. RAMDISK 128 MB, rec-channels.ini and rec.ini set correctly, received-directory fills with MSG-1 files. Installed MSG-DM (evaluation license for the latest version, 28 days to go) and AVHRR-M (test license from David), set the directories, hit start. MSG-DM processes the files present in the received-directory, deletes them afterwards, the images are stored in the correct place. So faaaaar, so gooooooood. Now waiting for the next set of scans. Waiting. Waiting. The yellow REC-pseudo-LED comes on, but no 'processing ...'. And no new images in the HRIT etc. dirs. Checked the registry, nothing unexpected. AVHRR-M lists all the passes for al stations (all checked). But no processing (of course only those from the canaries). And still nothing from MSG-1. Changed the whole thing (including rec-channels.ini) to receive MSG-2. When the green 'LED' in MSG-DM is off, the received- dir fills with the usual files, but when I set it to 'run' (hitting start), it empties the received-dir, but does not process them (difference to starting MSG-DM after received has collected some files). Now, back to the subject line, a look into th elog files reveals this: (excerpt, there are tons of this) ERR:2006-05-19 17:49:40.514:Cannot join channel "EUMETSAT Data Channel 1": Failed to decode key 4140. Yes, I read the EUMETCAST-FAQs on missing key-symptoms. What puzzles me is the fact that the files do arrive in the received directory but can't be decoded then. I'll do the tests recommended by Eumetsat now, but the mystery remains. Is it one? Any comments? Cheers, ciao, tschüß, U. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

what do you mean with: The telecast version you mention is correct. 4.2.5.4 is the firmware in your EKU, this was not updated. You mean I did not update it or Eumetsat did not send the update? The double "About" is a minor problem in the new Tellicast client that has been reported to Eumetsat already. The tellicast version you mention is correct. 4.2.5.4 is the firmware in your EKU, this was not updated, only the eToken RunTimeEnvironment is updated from 3.51 to 3.65 but it is not easy to check this. Are you sure about TechniSat driver version 4.3.2.9999 ?? The version in EUMETSAT's update is 4.3.0.9999 But if it works, don't fix it ! Greetings, Arne van Belle

Re: Eumetcast software upgrade
a_van_belle
In the "Operations_Weekly_Schedule" that I receive per mail you can read:
"On 30 May 2006 EUMETSAT is planning a system upgrade of the EUMETCast uplink server. This activity will include a TELLICAST server software upgrade which optimises the data streams on EUMETCast. Prior to this upgrade it is planned to make available a new version of the Tellicast Client software for Linux (v. 2.4.3) and Windows (v.2.4.4). For more information please see: http://www.eumetsat.int/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&ssDocName=005961&l=en&ssTargetNodeId=115 " "Although the currently used Tellicast client version 2.4.0 is compatible with the new server version, users might experience some minor losses, in particular on the DWDSAT channel. In order to avoid or reduce DWDSAT data losses, parameters on the DWDSAT channel will be changed temporarily to give users sufficient time for the client software upgrade. This parameter change increases availibility at the expense of timeliness of the DWDSAT data and will therefore be maintained only for a 2-week period after 30th May. EUMETSAT recommends that users upgrade the Tellicast Client software." Again there is no need to update the Skystar software ! Douglas Deans <dsdeans@...>
Hi folks, Alan, when the upgrade was announced on the Operations_Weekly_Schedule (OPS) there was a link provided with a full explanation for the upgrade. I have included the link below (watch for wrapping). <http://www.eumetsat.int/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&ssDocName=005961&l=en&ssTargetNodeId=115> When the EPS service starts there will be a massive increase in data flow with an increase in channel numbers probably from the few we have at the moment to well over 20. Some of the new channels will probably have bandwidths well in excess of our current channel 2. Regards Douglas.

Hi folks,

I have been following this thread with interest. I modified my RAMdisk to receive the upgrade and also the recv.ini file and successfully got the upgrade this evening. However, I have seen nothing posted about why this upgrade is required, nor have I heard anything from Eumetsat saying an upgrade is needed. I am reluctant to install it unless there is some good reason (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Does anyone have anything official on this? Re Nigel's comment on the order of upgrades - the readme.txt file specifically states that only the Tellicast client and EKU files should be upgraded - no mention of upgrading the Skystar software. Cheers James ------------------------------------------------- Hi Arne, James & group, I have also just managed to complete the upgrade installation and did wonder about this aspect (Windows service for Tellicast) - but not knowing much (anything) about it I didn't select it! It would be good to hear any learned opinion on this. I would suggest to anyone who hasn't yet done the upgrade to read, carefully, all the various readme files and do the upgrades in the order :- Skystar driver, EKU and lastly Tellicast. I can't rememer who first posted that advice but thanks - I'm sure it saved me some hastle. After reading the mail about the problems with the "normal" RAM disk being possibly too small, I have reverted back to the hard disk for the receiving folder, temporarily. One immediate improvement I can see is that the TelliCast throughput graph now displays correctly without having to minimise the page and then restore it! But that's only a small thing. I'm sure there are lots of improvements that will become clear later on. Thanks to Eumetsat for distributing the upgrade this way - a great idea. regards Nigel

What to install from the Update
a_van_belle
Please note that the Skystar 4.3.0 driver and Technisat software have
been added to the update file to provide a complete software package with the same content to the CD provided by EUMETSAT. But only the TELLICAST client and the EKU software have been updated to a newer version. The Skystar/Technisat software does not need to be upgraded unless you use and older version than 4.3.0 and do experience problems. Greetings, Arne van Belle

I can confirm James, the update just came in on my testpc.

The 0.fsy file was stretched to 33.5 MB, but this PC does not receive the MSG2 trail data. The file_database_size was set at 50 000 000 bytes. My regular receive PC which is still using a 25 Mb ramdisk did not receive the update. At this moment I think that those who use a RAM disk (and do not take the MSG2 trial data) should set it to 45 MB or more. And a warning to those that use a firewall (that does include Windows XP SP2), your updated Tellicast and Technisat files are treated as new programs. You have to unblock Server4PC and tc-recv.exe again ! Windows XP SP2 users go to Control Panel, Security Center, Windows Firewall, Exceptions and add these programs again. Greetings, Arne van Belle

Hello Lawrence,

The update files breaching the limit of the RAM disk was not foreseen. You can enlarge the RAM disk to about 60 Mb using the control panel AND editing the line "File_database_size=59000000" A reboot is required. You could also decide not to use the RAMdisk for a while as we don't know what the optimal size is for allowing the update through yet not to waste memory. Edit your recv.ini and place a # at the beginning of the line "file_database_directory=Z:\receiving" and "file_database_size=...." In recv.channels.ini add a # at the beginning of the line "temp_directory=Z:\receiving/tmp" This makes Tellicast use the default file locations without limiting sizes. Stopping and restarting Tellicast is sufficient to activate this change. Good luck, Arne van Belle
