Re: Updated Tellicast software

Jonathan Williams <jonathan@...>

Likewise my experience, only I didn't uninstall, just installed
'over the top'. I am running v4.4.0 of the Skystar driver.

Following Arne's advice, I upped my RAMDisk to 64Mb to
get the updates in the first place.

All in all, very very painless!

All,
received update last night.
Left the USU DVB skystar V4.3.0 driver alone.
removed e_token software and tellicast software and removed USB e-token and
re-booted.

Re-installed e-token, plugged in USB token, then re-installed the tellicast
software and all works fine!

Total process less than 5 minutes.

Cheers

Hi Arne,
The PDF says:

1. Exit the Tellicast client and Server4Pc programs
(right-click on the icons in the tray and exit)
2. Completely uninstall any existing Technisat DVB software:
- Go to Control "Panel - Add or Remove Programs" and
- select "Technisat DVB Receiver" or similar.
- If asked to "Remove shared file", select "No to All"
I done it but it does not uninstall it.
When I click on it to uninstall, I get and orange page with a warning which
ask me if I want to remove completely the application.
I click on OK so I get another small blue window with a bar but after a
couple of seconds it disappear and remains only the orange page and after a
couple of seconds even the orange page disappears and the application is
still in the add/remove programs.
Why this?
What happens?
Thanks

Hi Vincenzo,

Version 4.2.2 was the recommended one before 4.3.0 and never gave me
any problems.
If all works I would not change it.

A detailed upgrade installation guide is included in the Update you
received from Eumetsat. Goto folder Windows\Skystar_4_3_0_a and open
readme_skystar_xp_v2.pdf (or the w2k version of you use windows2000)

If yes which is the procedure.
The eToken in the "Add/Remove programs" is "eToken Run Time Environment
3.65"
Thanks again.

Hello Vincenzo,

You probably did the update correctly. But with so many version
numbers it can be confusing.

Eumetsat's update consists of the Skystar/Technisat driver, which most
of us don't need to update as the same version was already included on
the EUMETCast Client Software V4 CDROM.
To check this Rightclick the (hopefully) green Sat Icon in the tray
and choose "About DVB Receiver"
This should list Version 4.3.0 for all instances.

As Douglas mentioned newer versions are available and these might work
perfectly but are not the recommended/tested one.

To check if the recommended EKU-software has been installed correctly,
look in "Add/Remove programs" for "eToken Run Time Environment 3.65"

The Tellicast version is shown in the uppermost "About tc-recv" and
should read 2.4.4 B .......

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Hello Vincenzo,

The double "About" is a minor problem in the new Tellicast
client that
has been reported to Eumetsat already.

The tellicast version you mention is correct.
4.2.5.4 is the firmware in your EKU, this was not updated,
only the
eToken RunTimeEnvironment is updated from 3.51 to 3.65 but it
is not
easy to check this.

Are you sure about TechniSat driver version 4.3.2.9999 ??
The version in EUMETSAT's update is 4.3.0.9999
But if it works, don't fix it !

Hello Ulrich,

You must be hit by two problems I guess.
Maybe it will boil down to one - a problem with or in the dongle. After
the communication last night I first reinstalled the rt3.51 program, then
ran the tests described in the eumetcast FAQs. It looked like the
dongle is ok, the license information in the tellicast suite looks good
too.
Then I let the eumetcast frontend collect some data in \received before
starting MDM. Disappointingly, the same behaviour: The images that
had collected until the start of MDM were all decoded and stored
correctly, but everything coming after that just caused the yellow REC
''LED' to light up, but was neither decoded nor stored.

Since it was after 0000 local time in the meantime, I decided to catch
some sleep, but looked at the log file (in the t-systems folder) again.
Here is the bottom part of it:

ERR:2006-05-19 22:03:36.563:Cannot join channel "EUMETSAT Data

ERR:2006-05-19 22:04:12.936:Critical dongle error (eToken
transaction timed out). Restarting child.

At that time, the dongle - LED was dark.

Today, I decided to separate the steps to come closer to some an
analysis. So, I modified the rec.ini and rec-channels.ini to collect the
received files on that big 250 G HDD. It fills continuously now with data.
Whenever a set of files is written to \received, the dongle LED gets
dark for a moment. Is that normal? It never occurred to me before
when the system was still running on that other hardware.

Anyway, if the data collected in \received, the eumetcast part of the
receiving side can be regarded as working at least for that phase,
where no interaction takes place with other software. Unfortunately,
David seems to be out for some time. So, it's a bit like walking in thick
fog... But at least, this is what it's all about, ins't it? :)

Regards,
U.

Firstly "cannot join.." looks like a password related problem.
Make sure you have all characters correct (Spot the difference between
l1I O0 ?)
Oh, I am familiar with such. 20 years ago, i spent some nights finding
an 0 instead of an O in an assembler source text (about 2 kg of
paper...) - that has taught me some lessons... :) But it still can happen,
and no, no potential for a mixup, and the tellicast suite regards it as
correct as well.

and if you edited the password in the ini file make sure you
have a line "user_key=" and not "user_key_crypt="
I edited the ini file, but did not touch the password. On the previous PC,
that ini file survived some other treatment as well, with the crypted part
untouched. I use MS Editor, so there should also ne no potential for
foreign text matter to intrude...

Make sure MDM is setup to MSG1 or MSG2, if "Delete other" is selected,
data from the "unselected MSG" will be deleted instantly.
I double and cross checked that. Also ran the same procedure for
MSG-2 data for some time, same result.

Good luck,
Thanks.

I still can test on a third machine to rule outr faulty hardware on that
new (old) 'pooter. Some other errands are on my personal (and my
wife's :) ) list to be done too...

Tschüß, cheers, ciao (what's it in dutch?)

U.

Sorry to hear about yout problems Vincenzo,

If you cannot receive now due to a partly removed driver I suggest you
try to install the skystar version 4.3.0 over the old one.

But if all still works you better stick to 4.2.2, as mentioned before
there is nothing wrong with this driver.

So this seems not the problem... it's 20 minutes that all is running just

Really it's crazy... but now it seems working...

What version of eToken Run Time Environtment do you use ?

RTE 3.65 readme tells me that Windows 2000 SP4 or higher is required.
On my regular receive PC I have W2k SP3 but still run RTE3.51 as
supplied on CDROM V4 !

Try to upgrade to SP4 or downgrade to RTE3.51 and TC240

Arne and Ulrich,
same problem here... have tested EKU according to FAQs...
Removing and reconnecting EKU makes system working and "USER PRESENT..."
Seems like a EKU failure... ????
Tomorrow I'll test... but it's strange that also Ulrich has same problem...

Hello Ulrich,

You must be hit by two problems I guess.
Firstly "cannot join.." looks like a password related problem.
Make sure you have all characters correct (Spot the difference between
l1I O0 ?) and if you edited the password in the ini file make sure you
have a line "user_key=" and not "user_key_crypt="

Make sure MDM is setup to MSG1 or MSG2, if "Delete other" is
selected,
data from the "unselected MSG" will be deleted instantly.

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Re: About

Hello Robert,

If you do not receive DWDsat or MSG2 trial data and do not plan to
receive the future METOP data, your current configuration most likely
won't need updating.

The only problem we currently have is that every Update send over
EUMETCast (twice a day up to May 31) will disrupt Tellicast if you run
it on a ramdisk smaller than 40 Mb.

If you do encounter unexpected data loss after May 30 then update the
EKU software (to version 3.65) and the Tellicast client (to 2.44).

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Re: Looking at the logs...

Ulrich, I'm going crazy today.... I've lots of "Failed to decode" and
"missing key" too...
I saw them in past days, so it's not due to updates...
I tried removing ramdisk and decoding to hd... no change...
I'm going to sleep... hoping tomorrow I wake up with a successfull idea...
Ciao
Giuseppe

... can be helpful.
In short: I took my preliminary receiver-computer apart and put a new
machine together. More speed (800 vs. 500 Mhz), more memory (1 G
vs. 768 M), more disk space (250+40 vs. 40 alone). Win2k, brought to
the latest SP state. Reinstalled Technisat drivers, server4PC is
running, Tellique (the well know version), EKU-driver. The dongle-LED
is on, green dot, pink T. RAMDISK 128 MB, rec-channels.ini and rec.ini
set correctly, received-directory fills with MSG-1 files.
Installed MSG-DM (evaluation license for the latest version, 28 days to
go) and AVHRR-M (test license from David), set the directories, hit
start. MSG-DM processes the files present in the received-directory,
deletes them afterwards, the images are stored in the correct place.

So faaaaar, so gooooooood.

Now waiting for the next set of scans. Waiting. Waiting. The yellow
REC-pseudo-LED comes on, but no 'processing ...'. And no new
images in the HRIT etc. dirs. Checked the registry, nothing unexpected.
AVHRR-M lists all the passes for al stations (all checked). But no
processing (of course only those from the canaries). And still nothing
from MSG-1. Changed the whole thing (including rec-channels.ini) to
receive MSG-2. When the green 'LED' in MSG-DM is off, the received-
dir fills with the usual files, but when I set it to 'run' (hitting
start), it
empties the received-dir, but does not process them (difference to
starting MSG-DM after received has collected some files).

Now, back to the subject line, a look into th elog files reveals this:

(excerpt, there are tons of this)

Yes, I read the EUMETCAST-FAQs on missing key-symptoms. What
puzzles me is the fact that the files do arrive in the received directory
but can't be decoded then. I'll do the tests recommended by Eumetsat
now, but the mystery remains. Is it one?

Any comments?

Cheers, ciao, tsch,

U.
