From experience: If you use a PCI card and have a VIA chipset,
changing te PCI slot where the Satcard lives may be helpful. Similarly,
using a different USB socket may be worth a try.

You may try to observe the network activities (the technisat card
disguises as a network interface) and draw any conclusions.

Could it be an overcrowded disk? Fat32 formatted? Those have
problems with large file counts.

Di you use a Ramdisk? How large? (Is the software upgrade still
distributed? That may blow the ramdisk.)

Orlando & Arne,
I had a similar problem problem during MSG2 beginnings, and following
upgrade download...
I am running 24/7, and it stopped in the afternoon...
First days, with home tmps about 30degrees... EKU was in backside USB...
Then on extension cable, now on frontside USB (near free air...) and it's
working.
I agree with Arne that cooling should be solution...
EKU seems beeing delicate under summer temps... my opinion....

Hello Orlando,

Sorry for the delay, I did reply this morning but somehow the mail
never arrived at Yahoo groups !

If your reception halts, can you run eToken properties and read out
the EKU ?

If not you might have a EKU problem. Try cooling down the EKU.

Do you use a USB box or PCI card version ?

Good luck,

KNMI

Ap van Weeren

Hi all,
Received following message from KNMI in the Netherlands:

=Dear user or interested party of the OSI SAF and EARS scatterometer
wind products,

Several of the near-real time wind products in BUFR format have
become available through the EUMETSAT EUMETCast system lately. Here
is a list of the currently available products:
- OSI SAF QuikSCAT 100-km pre-operational global wind product,
available through FTP and EUMETCast
- OSI SAF QuikSCAT 25-km experimental global wind product, available
only through FTP
- EARS ERS-2 25-km regional wind product in native ERS BUFR format,
available through FTP and EUMETCast
- EARS ERS-2 25-km regional wind product in ASCAT BUFR format,
available through FTP and EUMETCast

The ERS-2 product in ASCAT format is highly recommended for those
users who plan to make use of the future ASCAT data from the MetOp
satellites. It provides a unique opportunity for users to adapt their
data ingestion systems to the ASCAT data before MetOp launch.

For access to the data through EUMETCast, see
http://www.eumetsat.int/, follow the link 'Access to data'. For
access to the data through the KNMI password-protected FTP site,
please contact us on scat@knmi.nl.

A BUFR decoding Fortran90 program is available at
http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/bufr_reader/.

Near-real time graphical examples of the products and up-to-date
documentation can be found on http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/.

On the wind product viewers
http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/qscat_prod/ for the OSI SAF 100-km
pre-operational SeaWinds product,
http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/qscat_25_prod/ for the OSI SAF 25-
km experimental SeaWinds product, and
http://www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/ers_prod/ for the EARS 25-km ERS
product,
you can choose now to view either wind arrows or wind flags in the
detail pictures. Until now, only wind arrow pictures were available.
A wind flag is represented by barbs and solid pennants, a full barb
representing a wind speed of 5 m/s, a half barb representing a wind
speed of 2.5 m/s, and a pennant representing a wind speed of 25 m/s.

Best regards,

Hello Orlando,

Do you use a USB box receiver or a PCI card ?

After reception has halted, start eToken properties and try if you can
still read the eToken.

Check the windows event log for unusual errors.

If you cannot access the eToken, you might have a USB problem, check
you have installed the latest USB/chipset driver for your mainboard/PC.

David,

The flurry of discussion over several weeks now regarding RAMdisk has got me
worried - something else to get to grips with?
I realise that RAMdisk functions may be required in the future with the
explosion of data that is coming on stream.

However, your comments above are very soothing - even if only for the time
being.
I use an AMD 64 3.5 + GHz CPU with 1 MB RAM and 250 GB SATA HD.
OK, I'm not taking the HRPT trial data and have blocked the MSG-2 trial data
via my recv-channel.ini file but also use my computer at the same time as
receiving EUMETCast for Internet access, DVD player, Paint Shop Pro 5
manipulation [not all at the same time - mind you] and do not have any problems nor
missing segments.

Re: Missing Icons

Hi Douglas,
Thank you for your comments. I have both the receiving and received
folders on the RAMdisk on the basis of the discussion here recently that
all files in receiving are ultimately moved to received, and if they are
on the same drive, this is a rename operation rather than a read/write.
I am wary of these folders as I lost a drive a couple of years ago and
it failed in exactly that spot! I don't think this has anything to do
with the icons, though.

Alan my set-up sounds the same as yours and I have the icons, so it is not
the software, or the editing of the .ini files, or the RAMdisk.
One point of interest (not necessarily relevant to the issue). Is your
reference to received folder in RAMdisk just a typo. What should be in
RAMdisk is the 'receiving' folder with its fsy file. It is the fsy file
you want written to very quickly using RAMdisk.
My apologies if I have picked you up wrongly.
My received folders (I have 3 at the moment....one for all Meteosat 8,
one
for MSG-2, and one for EPS for tests I am helping with) are still in the
T-Systems/BusinessTV-IP folder as before.

Ian,

Sorry for the delay in responding - I've just caught up with this.

Yes, all Meteosat-7 services will terminate at 10:00 UTC this Wednesday June
14th.

You are right the data from [MSG-1] Meteosat-8 is being disseminated via
(now) three commercial satellites - Hot Bird-6 [13 deg. E] in Ku-band for
Europe, Atlantic Bird-3 [5 deg. W] C-band Africa and Europe and NSS-806 C-band S,
Central and N. America.

The above satellites disseminate a service called EUMETCast with varying
content depending on region.
EUMETCast is now EUMETSAT's primary data dissemination service as masses of
data can now be disseminated vis one stream which would have been completely
impossible via the usual 'Meteosat' dissemination route - so it's here to
stay.
Currently complete sets of Meteosat-8's HRIT data are disseminated plus sets
of derived environmental data and NOAA ATOVS sounding data.
Shortly NOAA polar orbiter HRPT data will go operational and later MetOp
AVHRR data.
[This may vary according to region.]

MSG-2 is due for launch in July and when operational as Meteosat-9 will
transmit (directly) an LRIT service - all other services listed above will be
disseminated via the named commercial satellite EUMETCast service.
There are no viably priced LRIT receiving systems on the market so this is a
dead end for the amateur.
And, considering the high resolution services provided via EUMETCast a very
poor second best.

You will find lots of information on the EUMETSAT website -
_www.eumetsat.int_ (http://www.eumetsat.int)

Does anyone know if the Metsat over the Indian Ocean Region, currently
doing some activity on APT, will also cease and go digital only?
The single WEFAX frame [ITOT] disseminated directly by Meteosat-5 over the
Indian Ocean is for ranging purposes as the satellite has a high inclination.
It is due to be replaced by Meteosat-7 next year to carry on the IODC
service but there are no WEFAX services planned.

We have a member in South Africa successfully receiving C-band EUMETCast and
who has written an article of his experiences in our Quarterly journal.

Rob, I seem to be ok but I am currently running with a huge ramdisk as I am
involved with EPS tests at the moment.
One thing I strongly suggest is that you only have PIDs selected for the
data/channels you want.
For example do not have PIDs 509 or 510 entered for the moment. I am saying
this because I think the latest DVB drivers have them installed (I am not
using the latest drivers).

MSG:2006-06-10 05:57:12.507:File transmission 448a5f020002c6a7
interrupted: filelist missing/incomplete

Normal service is resumed. No lost segments. 0.fsy is currently 10.9 Mb

Nothing apparent in BER, QUAL or SNR.

Anyone else noticed anything?

Cheers

Hi John,

Since the upgrade of my software I have been getting this also, but also
have noticed missing segments. I'm thinking of reverting back!

Rob.
I am saying
this because I think the latest DVB drivers have them installed (I am not
using the latest drivers).

Regards
Douglas.
