Yes, it is strange, Ferdinand. I had also wondered about the ground segment. Possibly, very slightly, if the satellites are running similar software release and a bug cropped up? Unlikely, I would have thought.

The rapid-scan service is still working, fortunately, and the full-scan on Met-9.

This morning Eumetsat announced a spacecraft anomaly for Met-11 at 05:58 and
for Met-8 at 06:09.
Full Europe/Africa service is now being provided by Met-9, whereas Met-8
remains silent.

Is this the extremely rare coincidence of two independent spacecraft
entering error condition (nearly) simultaneously or does it point to a
ground station issue. The alert messages do clearly state that it is a
spacecraft issue.

Peter, I did think that the reduced resolution full-scan data was still available, but I've not checked.

Copernicus Sentinel 3 and 2 data are readily available over the Internet, and the 10m resolution Sentinel 2 images are superb. Many more channels, too. IIRC a typical 100km x 100km square with all channels is about 1 GB.

Peter, I did think that the reduced resolution full-scan data was still available, but I've not checked.

Metop-A is gone. Metop-B and Metop-C AVHRR (Global Data Service) are both on EUMETCast Basic Service Channel EPS-10.

I thought I understand that full resolution was removed as of 15/12/21 but does that mean that all data from Copernicus is now no longer directly available? Dear users of MeteorGIS,

I have no Quadrifilar Helix, no SDR stick and no MeteorGIS here. But I doubt that MeteorGIS can easily do what I demonstrated below. And if you reproject a raster map in Q-GIS you must exactly know the UTM version MeteorGIS uses. If you really want a Bracknell chart overlay on your Meteor images here is my two cents how it can possibly be done right (no guarantee). AFAIK MeteorGIS accepts shape files to reproject. Here is a link that hints how you can use some GIS functionality of MeteorGIS (unfortunately the connection is rather unstable):

I have almost no experience with Q-GIS. But I made a quick V 3.16 install and did this:

1) I imported one of my Bracknell overlays that I exported to GEO tiff with PyTROLL/Satpy.
    If you only have a *.gif or *.png you will have to specify the projection parameters.

2) Q-GIS has GDAL under the hood that allows you to polygonize (vectorize) a raster map.

3) This vectorized layer can easily be reprojected to EPSG_4326 (lon +/- 180°, lat +/- 90°).


You can then export this layer as shape file(s) and use it in MeteorGIS just like coast lines.
If someone is interested in trying this I can send him the shapes (5MB) or publish them here.

Dear All,

in the latest GEO Newsletter No 72 on page 21 there is an article
"Overlay MetOffice Surface Pressure Charts over Meteor M2 Images".

But you can hardly fit a Polar Stereographic onto an UTM, which is
basically a Transverse Mercator. As both projections are conformal,
(retaining angles and small shapes) you maybe can, by rotating and
scaling, fit the UK more or less. Then Spain and Iceland are way off.

There is only two ways to do this mathematically right:

1) You can, if your system and software allows, reproject the
   satellite data the same way MetOffice made the MSLP chart.
2) If you cannot reproject your satellite image, then you can
   reproject the MSLP chart as overlay of your satellite image.

Maybe you have never seen 2) but this can be done in any GIS that
deserves this name (e.g. Q-GIS is free and works in almost any OS).

Last sunday Christian and myself solved method 2) in PyTROLL/Satpy.
This means we can now reproject the Bracknell chart or any of the DWD
charts to any other area (except for dynamic areas like the 'omerc_bb').
This does take less than 1 minute and it can easily be automated.

I attach two absolutely extreme reprojection examples. I fit the
Bracknell chart and a DWD Type n chart (Stereographic and Conic)
to a NOAA Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) Mercator of Atlantic East.
Think of these charts as printed on a thin rubber sheet. You then
distort this sheet to exactly fit to your target projection lat/lon grid.
Reprojecting raster data comes at a price of lower quality though.

I always use a generous length of heat-shrink sleeving over the F connector, up to the body of the LNB, and several cm along the cable at the other end. It's more resilient that the self amalgamating tape often used. Also before using the sleeving, I coat any electrical connectors, including any contacts, in ACF-50 which is very good at preventing corrosion and still allows a good electrical connection. It's used in the airline industry to coat electronics and connectors to inhibit corrosion.

The only data I know to have been stopped is Metop-A, which is now being de-orbited. I'm getting the other full and regional data here.

Crestview can handle NOAA-20, I believe, although it's been a long time since I used it. Douglas Deans will know. Google gives:

The Metop AVHRR channel on HVS-1 which is E1H-EPS-10 only carried Metop-A data. Metop-A ceased operation a few weeks ago and is now retired.

E1-RDS-1 carries VIIRS data which can be displayed by Hugo's excellent Eumetcastview program.

Assuming your dish clamping is not loose, this would most likely be a poor connection in the cable between the dish LNB and the TBS. Most likely water has seeped into the LNB connection and caused some corrosion. Cutting about 5cm off the cable at the dish end and fitting, preferably a new F connector, should improve things. There may be corrosion inside the LNB which is a bit more problematic, but try the cable first.

We are using the TBS-6903 to receive BASE, HVS-1, HVS-2.
When I open the program of TBS I see that ii is connecting and the signal is locked. After a couple of seconds it gets unlocked and signal is weaker, then signal suddenly stronger and gets a lock.
So it goes locked, unlocked, locked, unlocked all the time.
What can be the problem? Is It the hardware (dish is 1.2m with single LNB)?
