Iceberg A-68A from MSG-4
geojohnt@...
All,
I didn't think to look before but the iceberg is visible via MSG-4 HRV imaging.
This from today via EUMETCast and David's GSS.
Regards,
John.

I simply made a vv 'composite' and did not reproject but simply write out the groundrange. Original image size 214MB, 28625 x 20138 pixels,16Bit. I had to flop the image left/right to make it look the way we are used to. For this IM was handy. Just did "convert SB1.png -flop ...". Cheers, Ernst P.S. I will try to make color composites (vv vh) on my 24GB RAM PC.

John,
here is the same image of good old Metop-A in four different Pytroll/Satpy composites (including the famous 'green_snow' :-). Cheers, Ernst

Hi,
Apparently you didn't set the smoothing for the projection. Select Preferences - Projection - Smoothing of projection image - set Bilinear interpolation.... That's all ... grts, Hugo

attached You'll find a Noaa20 oblique mercator projection. As you can see on both sides there still are the stripes. Il giorno sab 26 dic 2020 alle ore 15:21 Daniele Guardigli via groups.io <daniele.guardigli=gmail.com@groups.io> ha scritto:

I'm using 1.4.9 as well. I think something messed up. If someone knows which parameter should I set will be appreciated

Hello, From many days ago Eumetcastview doesn't remove side lines on VIIRS images when producing a pojection (same for MERSI). Before,it did it without issues.Which parameters should I set? Thanks in advance. Daniele Guardigli

Boxing Day A-68A Metop images.
geojohnt@...
All,
We seem to have be fairly lucky with cloud cover in the South Georgia area for several days now.
Well, at least we can 'see' through it in VIS.
Here are todays Metop-B and Metop-C images via EUMETCast and processed with David Taylor's HRPT Reader.
Regards,
John.

Hello All,
The turkey is in the oven with all the 'other bits.' The roast potatoes are sizzling. The sprouts and veg are cooking and the wine is chilling in the fridge.
I'm afraid for me it's Christmas 'Dinner for One' this year. Our German members will know 'what I mean' from Sylwester TV.
So, Happy Christmas and Seasons Greetings to All. And it's sad to see the demise of A-68A?
Best wishes, John.

Ernst,
I had a chance to work with your suggestions and it works perfectly well. A first result is seen here: A68 (fvalk.com) It seems that the next rupture will be lengthwise through the middle of A68 and that the pieces will soon bend around the southern tip of the elevated sea floor to continue north/northeast.
Cheers, Ferdinand

I couldn’t get single (hh) to work thus far.Ferdinand, it works like areas.yaml. This file takes precedence over the file areas.yaml in Satpy's 'etc' directory. In 'etc' there are subdirectories 'composites' and 'enhancements'. There you find all current configurations built in. You can make the same subdirectories in your pppconfig and store your extra stuff there. I attach what I had to add as a bare minimum to make 'hh' and 'hv' work for B&W images. This means you can also image single channels from an SDH file like the one from yesterday. Along these lines it should be easy to make composites for 'vv' or 'vh' but also other dual combinations in SAR-C *.SAFE files. Have fun ... Cheers, Ernst

Ernst,
Excellent. Does that mean that you have found a solution to single versus dual polarization (SSH / SDH) issue in Pytroll/Satpy? Or do you mean with homebrew that you solved it outside of Satpy?
I couldn’t get single (hh) to work thus far.

John and Ferdinand,
while John noticed the first crack accross the A68a finger (on a Metop image!!) and Ferdinand added a final Sentinel-1A SAR-C measurement *.tiff confirmation, I was unable to read the same GRDM file with Pytroll/Satpy because it only contained hh data. I have fixed that now by adding two homebrew sar-c composites. Cheers, Ernst
