No, it _should_ be processing them and putting them in the same
folder as usual (for Met-5 FSD). Possibly if you had more recent
data there from the 3-hourly cycle, earlier data would have been
skipped. I had a 16:30 set (although only one segment of 16:00, a
visible one).

If things are now fixed, I would expect the 18:00 data to be the
next distributed, named as MSG. I may get some half-hourly data
(tied to my user-ID) as the system is tested out, and then it will
be publicly released, perhaps wilt a parallel running period. As
you will know, at some point in the future Met-7 data may be
available in the same way.

Cheers,
David

MET-5 data

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

A bunch of Met5 files have not been recognized by MDM, starting at
1049 UTC:

L-000-MTP___-MET5________-VIS006___-PRO______-200402101030-__
L-000-MTP___-MET5________-VIS006___-000001___-200402101030-C_
Folks, as you will have realised, changes made for a test of Met-5
data at more frequent intervals did not go quite as planned, but are
currently being resolved. Eumetsat do know about the problem.

Cheers,
David

Improvements

Lawrence <lawrence@...>

Recently my receive computer (1.5GHz) failed with several components,
after only two years use, so I decided to upgrade. The receive machine
was previously my main computer - a 2.4GHz AMD - and is now used to
receive M-8 and do a few other things. I have noticed a huge
improvement in operations. With a reasonable signal strength, the number
of missing segments has vanished! Although not yet optimised, things
are distinctly better.

The next job is to fix the dish permanrently, after maximising the
signal. Then I am going to try a USB receiver.....

best wishes to all.

Has anyone [amateur/educational users] in countries OUTSIDE of UK, Holland,
Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and France, taken part in the MSG trials and or
now registered for Meteosat-8 EUMETCast dissemination?

It would be useful to know how your licenses have been dealt with - any
fees/handling charges and the period of license that has been issued.

David,

This does now appear to be the current situation [charges] however, length of
license now seems to be a bit vague in some countries.

So, an informal chat on Monday might be very useful.

John Tellick.

Yes, thanks Luca. I think it was during the "you have been spammed"

GB, NL, B, I, FR - no charge
D, ESP - charge

try and get the costs for German and Spanish amateurs reduced, if
not even eliminated.

Hi Luca,

Good news your licenses have arrived - and three!
The third will obviously save IRM/KMI having to inform EUMETSAT that you are
licensed.

The UK licenses run for three years from 1st February 2004 to 31st January
2007.
Colin Cuthbert said this was just an arbitrary figure to get things moving
and to see if users wished to continue to be licensed after this period or drop
out.

We now know DWD is only issuing yearly licenses and some are charging
handling fees so the situation appears far from clear.

Ask IRM/KMI for a 10 year license and see what they say?

Regards,
John Tellick.

MSG-1 resolution (again)

Lawrence <lawrence@...>

I'm jury-rigged for email now! Brilliant blue sky this morning; then a thin
layer of cirrus, I was able to watch the build up of cloud on MSG-1, and in
some cases identify individual clouds/cloud formations - all confirmed by
looking out of the window!
Are others using MSG-1 to follow very short range changes over a short
time-scale? And to think it's going to get even better!

Robert
Yes, I do exactly this for astronomy. You can get an excellent idea of
cloud cover and now-casting for telescope use. I have noticed that some
cloud is almost see-through.

Hello Nuham,

"Cannot join channel DWDSAT" looks like you have the wrong PID's
entered. Enter PID 100,300 and 301 in the Technisat SETUP4PC Data
Services screen.
Your trial username should be valid until March 02, you don't need
new software although TQ 2.3.1a is recommended.
TQ software can only be acquired at Eumetsat and is not available for
download.
