Douglas, I think that there may be problems resulting from trying to cram too much down data channel 3, possibly the sequence errors we see on Met- 5 and some MPEF products. What will happen on MSG-2 and MSG-3 where these bandwidths are fixed and not adjustable? I guess that as dissemination will be via Hotbird, the limited bandwidth won't matter. Just a thought, though. Re: Sailing Channel gone?
Luca Bertagnolio <lucaberta@...>
Ian,
I did a rescan of the transponder, and infact it is gone. :-( Kurdsat will then become by "beacon" channel, and hopefully "Breaking the Ice" will stay on the transponder, as it is probably much nicer, given the promos being broadcasted just now. Sailing Channel is still available FTA on 11200V. Bye, Luca --- In MSG-1@..., "Ian S Deans" <ian@i...> wrote: Hi Luca, has been encrypted. However you can tune into Kurdsat which is also on 11096,

Hi Luca,
Yes the Sailing Channel is no longer available FTA -- I suspect it has been encrypted. However you can tune into Kurdsat which is also on 11096, although Sailing Channel did look better !! Regards Ian.

I also saw that phenomenon. It seemed as though the lines started off in mid-Spain heading east-west (or the inverse), and were rotated round and moved north by the low embedded in the jet stream. I took them to be aircraft contrails. Best regards - Alan

whilst Hyperthreading was not the main topic, it was discussed. It should work quite transparently with Windows XP, taking advantage of those operations that specifically support it such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. In essence, your normal application should run as usual, but applications such as IE run as if using a second processor. I saw demos using Microsoft Office, Abode Reader and a few other applications all loading and running very fast indeed - well they would since it was Intel running them! I would venture to suggest however, that the motherboard may need to be using Intel's latest chipset. Also make sure you've got all the latest XP upgrades and patches from Microsoft and drivers for your PC. Roger

Re: Tellique and the newer Intel & AMD processors
Guy Martin <agm@...>
Most software isn't written to make use of hyperthreading and as you pointed out some actually fails. In fact most software can't make use of multi-processing. We are (work this is) replacing 100 clients in the summer. 64 bit is an option, if anyone has one let we know what it does, or more importantly doesn't.

I had read the hyperthreading note as well and had it initially disabled.

However once my new PC had become stable I decided to activate it again. Over a period of about 3 weeks now I didn't get a single disruption, alarm or unexplained lost segment. So it may not be officially supported (tested?) but it certainly does work in my system. On 64 bit CPU I can not tell you. Cheers, Ferdinand

It only applies to the PC with the DVB card and Tellique software installed. Hyperhtreading is only enabled with Windows XP, service pack 1, I believe. The check is to see if, when running the Windows Task Manager, Performance tab, two CPU usage plots are displayed side-by-side or just one. As I said, I don't have direct experience of this, just what I saw in the release notes. If it actually does work OK, great! Cheers, David

Imminent disruptions
Folks,
A reminder that the next two weeks see some interruptions to images, particularly on Tuesday and Friday. I expect to see a normal flow of Foreign Satellite Data, but the products derived from MSG-1 data will be interrupted. Cheers, David This was the Weekly Schedule Report for Week 52/2003 Issued 15:22 18/12/03: Activities planned for week 02: There will be an MSG-1 decontamination starting on the 06/01/04. This procedure will have the following impact on SEVIRI imaging. 06/01/04 from 08:30 until 11:15 there will be no SEVIRI data available. 06/01/04 from 11:15 until 09/01/04 12:00 only VIS channels will available with degraded quality. 09/01/04 from 12:00 until 09/01/04 13:15 no SEVIRI data available. 09/01/04 from 13:15 until 13/01/04 09:00 SEVIRI images available with degraded quality 13/01/04 09:00 Nominal SEVIRI images resume Activities planned for week 03: 13/01/04 09:00 End of decontamination nominal SEVIRI images resume. MSG-1 relocation manoeuvre to 3.4 deg. West will begin on 14/01/04. The drift will last 14 days and will be stopped on 27/01/04. There may be some degradation to the images during the manoeuvre, users will be informed of the impact during the relocation period.
