That sounds like a good idea - will be slightly tricky as the files
are in a different folder, but nothing that can't be done. I might
wait until the Met-7 data is available as well so as to do the two
tasks at the same time.

Cheers,
David
Will the addition of Met 7 data need another Tab in MSG DM. Perhaps the
'Europeans' (ie Meteosats 5 & 7) can take a tab of their own and leave the
other three as the FSD's.
We are going to be spoilt for choice. Great times !

Regards
Douglas.

Fair point David. Until MSG-2 is up and tested Met-7 does give us some
backup cover.

Ian.

So huge thanks in advance David!!

if you have to stop and start the Technisat prog to get new PIDs
working?

No just put the PID in. Funnily enough I did that this morning. You may
lose the odd segment whilst you are doing it though, as Tellique does not
like the DVB program being adjusted.
I have the old program perhaps the new one is more tolerant.

Douglas.

Folks, if you are getting missing segments or other problems it
might help to know:

- version of Technisat Driver software
(e.g. timestamp of SkyNET.sys in \system32\drivers\)

- version of Tellique software
(heading on HTML screen, e.g. 2.3.1)

- version of eToken run-time environment

Cheers,
David

Excellent idea if David could program it. My preference, if at all
possible, would be to add it as a 6th as I already enjoy the 5 I have !
Hope regular Met 5 comes soon.

Lawrence,

Zero missing segments here from 00:00 to 13:30 today. 09:00 GOES-10
IR and WV missing.

I have asked Eumetsat if some sort of real-time status report can be
made available online so that you can just click on a URL to confirm
that everything is OK, as my two most FAQs are: is it working?, and,
what happened to the HRV data? Eumetsat have this sort of
information internally, but at a much more complex level than is
needed for a quick go/no-go indication. They were quite receptive
to the idea.

David

Fairly painless EKU installation

Just to confirm what others have reported, with one or two slight variations.

I had already installed the e-token software when I received an upgrade to the Tellique s/ware some time ago, but I left the CD in the drive when introducing the token.

Running Windows XP.

System recognised the token, after a delay invited me to install software, chose the automatic option and it was all over before I could check whether it accessed the CD - don't think it did.

I then un-installed the Tellique software because I wanted it to pick up the new name and user password and create the appropriate keys, ran it again, entering the new details. A re-boot was required - allowed it to do a 'warm' one, and the 'T' turned purple right on cue.

On running MDM there was a slight hiccough in that initially it told me I didn't have a path set up for the data files. But a second start was then fine. I wonder if it was simply because there were no files to process - in the un-install/install process I didn't change the directory for the Tellique s/ware.

I have currently set the MDM to process most channels to make sure the new licence covers everything it should, and at the moment everything seems fine. Looking at the LRIT after some months of absence was a bit of a shock though! The blockiness of some areas was quite marked.

As a PS I wonder David if it will be possible to animate MET 5 30 minute scans with 'Animator' when they start coming online? Just a thought.

Cheers,

James

Re: segments awol

Ian S Deans <ian@...>

John,

What DVB card and dish size are you using to get that sort of signal
quality. I am using an 88cm dish and the updated Technisat Card which gives
a lower reading on signal quality ( doesn't mean a thing ) than the original
card. At best I am reading a signal quality of 59% ( equivalent to about 70%
on older card ). Having said that I was once down at 15% in a blinding
blizzard and didn't lose a segment.

Regards

Ian.

Over the last hour or two there seems to have been quite a few
missing segments. This is wirth a signal quality of 87% - 95%

Yes, of course. Too many acronyms!

MDD - the products presently sent over the GTS - things like weather
charts and reports from stations.

MPEF - derived data from Meteosat-8 etc. such as AMV (atmospheric
motion vectors), CLA (CLoud Analysis), CTH (Cloud Top Height) etc.
These are typically available some minutes or hours after the
original scans from which they are computed. CLAI and CTH are sent
as raster data (images), and the others in recent variants of BUFR
or GRB format.

Cheers,
David

Re: AMSU-A/AMSU-B/HIRS

If your normal image data was in: C:\MSG\images\, then any MPEF
data would be in: C:\MSG\MPEF\. You will find JPEG images, and GRB
and BUFR format files. There was a discussion earlier on this list
about software to process these files. However, you may be
receiving them in error, as they are supposed to be only for
National Weather Services.
