Re: EKU

Alan Sewards <alan.sewards@...>

Ian,
I believe that you should start the installation process by stopping
tqrecv and then uninstalling the Tellique software.
You can then install the EKU software by finding and clicking on the
Etoken-RTE.msi file in the directory EKU Software of the CDROM (this file
may also have a version number embedded in the name). Insert the Key and
check for the presence of etoken.dll in the System32 directory and of etoken
properties in the directory Documents and Settings\All
Users\StartMenu\Programs\etoken. In the CDROM directory Tellique run
T-Systems Setup during which you will have to insert the Username and
Password sent to you by email by Eumetsat. You will then have to reboot
after which all should work straight off from the boot, tellique will start
automatically. If the icon does not change to purple, it may be because of
Zonealarm which was used to having the tellique client located in a
different directory. Note when uninstalling the tellique software do NOT
uninstall the DVB software - this sounds obvious but I did it as the DVB
software was renamed to t-systems when tellique was originally installed!

Good luck! - Alan

Reference my previous mail I have now reloaded the original DVB drivers,
but
the problem continues as before. As soon as I attempt to load the msi file
it appears to load in, but then I receive the "fatal error" message.
However
Tellique ( and EKU) appear then to work normally with all data channels
being received (1-3). When I do a reboot channels are no longer available
until I run the msi file again with usual fatal message and everything
starts working again.
Douglas received his EKU and software only two weeks ago, but strangely
enough my msi file is considerably larger than his and has a date of
11/2/04 --- I wonder what has changed.

One question. When I run the msi file should Tellique be running or not ?

Thanks for help and will have to monitor mails through Yahoo

Ian.

Ian,

The Yahoo interface isn't bad at all - it only takes an F5 to see if
there's a new message, although that isn't as convenient as just
getting a mail. The Web interface arguably shows threading better
as well. The problem with Freeserve is the first major problem for
some time, so I wouldn't give up on them too quickly.

The only MSI file that I have had to run is RTE_3_51.msi, which is
the eToken drivers and support software. This file (from Aladdin's
Web site) was data 27 Sep 2003 and was 3,868,672 bytes long. Your
may differ.

As it is for the eToken, I would advise against having the Tellique
software (which tries to access the eToken) running at the same time.

In the very early days, something enabled the SmartCard service
which, with no eToken present, leaked memory and stopped the PC
working eventually (after a few days). At that time, my advice was
to set the service to either Disabled or Manual to stop the problem.

Now that we do need to talk to the eToken, of course, that service
should be in the Automatic startup state. (Settings, Control panel,
Admin tools, Services etc.....). Thanks for reminding us about that.

Cheers,
David

At last I am getting somewhere with the problem. Just noticed that the
smartcard setting under services was set at manual and not automatic.
Changing this has resulted in the correct info being shown in Host Key 4 in
Tellique. All channels now coming in even after a full reboot, so looking
hopeful. Still getting error message when loading the msi file, but can only
assume some detail must be loading.
Posting these updates to group as they may help others in similar position
to myself.

Ian.

Basil,

First of all apologies that I can't reply to specific mails. I am having to
monitor all my group mails via Yahoo as Freeserve are taking up to 40 hours
to deliver my mails. I have a new computer arriving soon and Freeserve are
going to get told to take a running jump !!

I received my EKU this morning and am also having intermittent problems. The
EKU msi file appears to load and then I get a warning message " Fatal error
program loading prematurely stopped " However all works well in spite of
that until the next reboot and I then have to reload the msi file with same
message and all works again.

Basil which DVB drivers are you using ? I am using version 4.2.8 and some
have reported problems with EKU using these drivers. I have decided (
hopefully this evening ) to reload the original DVB drivers to see if that
resolves my problems. Clearly the fact that the msi file is not loading
properly is at the root of my troubles and I will report later the outcome
of reverting back to the original DVB drivers.

Hope that helps.

Ian.

Re: EKU

Hello Ian,

As you will see from my message to David and Tim my mistake involved
user-key imput, (silly billy).
With regard to the DVB driver, my software came from TimeStep and uses
version 4.2.2b. There have been adverse reports regarding version 4.2.8. I hope
loading an earlier version solves the problem.

Basil

Please upgrade to the current beta of the MSG Data Manager which
will handle the GII files. The older versions will not simply
delete files that they do not know about.

The MPEF files are either images (as in the CLAI and CTH data), or
BUFR or GRIB format (but sometimes packaged as multiple BUFRs or
GRIB to a single file).

David

There seems to be all sorts of interesting things going on in MPEF land : I've
only been up and running for a week or so but notice I started to receive them
only yesterday. Was this just finger trouble at my end ? I'm sure I had the
process boxes ticked the whole time.

What are the large Cloud Mask .grb+ files and Atmosphere Motion Vector .bfr+
files ? Are these waiting to be turned into images ? I notice too a daily build
up of the Global Instability GII files in my receive directory, I found them
only when I realised MSG Data Manager was struggling working its way through
several thousand of them. Are these an image in waiting ?

Yes David, I've already noted this in your file days ago.
I followed Luca's step by step guide to setting up the PID's, but still only
get one active IP Packet. Presumably this is the Announcement Channel.
Something amiss somewhere along the line.

Kind regards,
Basil.

Re: Data Channels/Log Files

fvalk <fvalk@...>

Affirmative. I use for the MSG PC (doing both reception and Data Manager but
not GSS and image processing):

Pentium IV - 2.8 GHz
1GB Ram
Hyperthreading enabled on MSI motherboard
eToken installed
new software, username and pw

No problem whatsoever, no segment losses or missing images other than those
seen by others or reported by Eumetsat.

I am not even aware that the machine is there at all.

Cheers,
Ferdinand

Hi Tim,
Just received your message.
Yes, my Log file is just the same as yours or was before you sorted it out.
I tried changing my user key from OH to zero even though I was sure the OH
was an OH.
But no change in my situation.
I wonder whether my problem lies with the PID's. In Statistics of Setup4PC
I've got 4 active PID's as required but only one receiving and that is:
MC 01-00-5E-5F-DE-DF, the others record zero K/B's.
At the moment I've got everything running on one PC under XP pro.
I am very pleased you have solved your problem - I am still working on mine.

Best wishes,

Basil.

Re: Data Channels/Log Files

Well folks, I'm sitting here with an awful lot of egg on my face!!

Going with David's first guess, I uninstalled and reinstalled the T-
Systems (Tellique) software with one crucial difference - I used the
CORRECT password. In the email from Eumetsat I misread a zero as the
letter Oh (or to quote Homer Simpson perhaps it should have been
DOH!!). So David, your first instinct was spot on. A big thankyou.

Arne - many thanks for the feedback.

Re. the hyperthreading/multi-processor issue:

I suspect all is fine. The T-Systems Client is reporting two active
data channels (2 & 3) and the Received folder is filling up quite
nicely. Although for the "Acid Test" I have yet to obtain and
install David's MSG DataManager.

Once again, a huge thankyou.

Kind regards,

Tim

Obviously I've changed the alpha-numeric characters in the above
example, but suffice to say the originals do not correspond to the
password provided by Eumetsat. Therefore I assume that the Tellique
software (2.3.1) has encryted my password or do you think I need to
edit the user_key_crypt line to reflect my actual password?
Tim and David,

I have tested this before (again without eToken), the official
install encrypts your user_key entry and updates recv.ini at install.

But you can edit it manually, you have to enter the un-encrypted key
however: user_key=NNNNNNNNN

I did install the latest Eumetcast software on an XP Pro 3.0 GHz
Hyperthreading machine, creating screendumps for a setup manual.
It did run Tellique but I only tested it very shortly, so I am not
sure if could connect succesfully.
Still have this machine and image available but may not be able to
retest this before the weekend.

I don't know - my recv.ini has the lines:

[recipient]
user_name=<my-name>
user_key=<my-key>

that I had to edit by hand, and I'm not sure exactly what is
provided in the present software package.

Unfortunately the BIOS doesn't provide that facility so as a last
resort I'll have to take the "desperation" path if no other solution
works. Incidentally, all P4 800MHz CPU's are hyperthreaded beasts
and Win XP reports a hyperthreaded multi-processor environment.
Surely there must be folks out there receiving MSG data
on "modern" PC's?

Tim, I presume you mean 2800MHz P4 CPUs?

Yes, I have one myself, but I was careful to turn off the
hyperthreading in the BIOS for just this reason. However, I am
running Windows 2000 and not XP on the PC, so it would not turn on
the hyperthreading in any case.

I did ask this group some weeks ago, and at least one person
reported they were using hyperhtreading without problem. This may
have been pre-eToken, though.

Time to ask again: is anyone sucessufully using a hyperthreaded
processor, with the hyperthreading enabled, (check on Task Manager
