Learning Metop Manager

Philip Robinson

Hi
I have downloaded another one of Davids useful software and have this evening been trying to get to grips with it
I can obtain GAC images  and GAC composite, but on the Metop Images there are no Quick Look or any other images with the info line at the bttom of screen waiting  for chunks.... I am not very sure where these are to come from, i was expecting the chunks to be automatically there.
There are also not any images in either the EPS-combined or EPS-global, but the EPS-NOAA has the AVHRR-GAC images
All data that i require is ticked off at my EOPortal. In fact i have put ticks against all Metop A and Metop B products
In the EUMETCast\received\bas\EPS-10 i have lots of AVHRR.....bz2 files and W_XX-EUMETSAT.bin....... files .
I think my problem is obtaining the chunks
I have tried looking through some Metop Manager information  documents and FAQ, but havent  found  the solution yet . Its probably something simple.
The programme looks really good but before i pay the registration fee i need to get on top of the software.
If its as good as the rest of Davids software then i cant wait to use it correctly
I hope all the above makes sense, and someone can help.I will be  back to the forum tomorrow in hopes that an experienced user can give me a little assistance
thanks
Philip Robinson
PS Which of Davids software would be the best to further process the images produced in Metop Manager.

And YES I can confirm that the SMR crap did not even work as data disk when I used a RAM disk in front. So even if you use a RAM disk the HDD you robocopy to must be CMR. If not it might work to begin with but once you have received raw TelliCast files with an equivalent of the HDD capacity your system will get stuck with I/O-waits. That's what I saw under GNU/Linux and I don't think that Windows can handle that in a better way. Use SMR for data archives (images, films) only.
Regards,
Ernst
Thanks, Ernst. I'm just ordering a new PC and making sure I get CMR disks. It's written into the specification, and the supplier does understand. Any I/O waits are not wanted!

Cheers,
David

The dish size or the LNB.
Thanks for your help and apologize for all.

Enzo,

It's unlikely to be the LNB (but what cable length do you have between LNB and receiver, and is it good "satellite TV" cable, and not some RG58!).

The signal is quite weak in the UK, meaning that pointing accuracy is critical, as is skew (rotational) adjustment on the LNB to minimise the cross-polarised signal. You need to be monitoring the SNR, not just the RF level.

Marco,

Glad to hear you are now getting data!

- There are retention settings in the MSG Data Manager. Initially (I hope) they should all be set to 1 (day), so at approximately midnight created image files which are more than 1 day old will be deleted.
FSD image data will also be removed if you have honoured the same directory structure (\Images\FSD\

- Should you want more control, schedule my TrimTree program to run early in the morning.

Vincenzo

What is your SNR. I am just above12.5( reasonably steady) and I receive BAS, HVS-1 and HVS-2 easily. Dish is 1.2metres. If you have a good SNR that’s fine and its back to the configurations again unfortunately

My remark was simply that this should, by now, be routine and better
explained in the supporting documentation. I'm delighted that there are folk

I suggest that you start by getting the BAS (Basic Service) working correctly,
and that should take care of all the networking issues. Once you have that,
check that the SNR shown on the SR1 is at least 12.0 dB, and if it is less you
don't have enough signal for HVS-1.

Re: Pytroll/Satpy and Environment Variable

Ernst Lobsiger

Richard,

my version of Satpy is 0.27 with a Miniconda install under GNU/Linux. It works as expected with SATPY_CONFIG_PATH.
If this is not the case for Satpy 0.29 under Windows you should report that to the maintainers (e.g. on the google list).

Best regards,
Ernst

Re: Pytroll/Satpy and Environment Variable

rnosborne@...

Ernst,

Thanks for you reply. I confirmed that SATPY_CONFIG_PATH was set up correctly but the environment variable was still not being read by Satpy.
I have since made a very small change to an underlying Satpy module and this appears to have cured the problem for me.

Regards,
Richard

Hard disk drives - CMR and SMR - CMR needed still with RAMdisk?

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

Ernst,

I've looked through this year's messages, but I cannot find this part of the discussion!

IIRC, you said that having a CMR disk was still important, even if you had both the tmp and received files on a RAMdisk (and in my case using RoboCopy to transfer from RAMdisk to HDD). I can't recall why this was the case, so if I did remember correctly could you possibly remind me or point to the relevant message?

Thanks,
David

I have attached screenshot of my configuration of SR1 and the cast clients file  of BAS and HVS-1. You may be able to find something in there that helps. As you know i receive BAS and HVS-1 through my SR1.

This has all been written up so many times - I am disappointed that it is occupying so much traffic on the group.
