MSGDM & Notifications

Vincenzo Mone

Hi to the list,
Time ago David said to me that I can get the messages from EUMETSAT e-mailed
directly to me.
He said to have a look in the
Help, Index, Notifications.
I had a look but honestly did not understood how to get it out.
I've downloaded a program called BLAT194.ZIP and inside there are:
A folder plus 17 files.
There is non install or setup file.
Can any one tell me step by step how to set every thing up?
Thanks for any help.

Fatima,

As far as I know, nothing has changed with the MSG-1 images to cause
"distortion" so I would suggest that you contact the person who supplied
your system.

I would suggest checking with EUMETSAT about any missing charts and text
as I have had one other report of ECMWF GRIB data being missing, but I
don't check this data on a regular basis myself.

Cheers,
David

All,

I was told by EUMETSAT that since Meteosat-7 was imaging all the time it was
drifting to its new Indian Ocean location the imaging downlink from
Meteosat-6 would have to be temporarily switched off when Meteosat-7 was within 3
deg. either side of Meteosat-6 as it drifted past to avoid co-channel
interference to Meteosat-7.

Indeed - Douglas provides an excellent service covering all weather satellites, and it was remiss of me to omit mention of his group. I was more concerned that you should know that EUMETSAT does offer a direct mail notification service.

Many thanks, Douglas.

Sometimes I have to be a bit lazy about this Douglas. I get all the messages but sometimes pressure of work forces me to delete masses of email without reading it (I scan the inbox for anything work-related). So if something goes AWOL from satellite reception I keep my head down and simply assume I've missed a message. If something else has gone wrong locally I reckon I'll find out soon enough. Other times, of course, I read everything carefully.

POVIM Presentation Manager

Fred <fred@...>

The activities around weather satellites consist of many different
and often separate and independent programs. This often results in a
messy system where it's difficult to find files and automate
processes.

POVIM is developed to provide a structured and integrated
environment. POVIM stands for Product Oriented Video, Images and
Maps.

The first part of POVIM is to structure the whole process. This is
done by defining a structured environment, structured names and
structured procedures. After this the whole process can run fully
automatically. With such an environment it is easy to add new
programs and procedures without disturbing the whole process.
Articles in GEO Quarterly and "De Kunstmaan" describe this process.

After structuring the system it is time for the next step.

POVIM Presentation Manager.
POVIM PM integrates all the separate programs. POVIM PM consists of
2 parts: the Product Manager and the Presentation Manager and offers
the following possibilities:
Product Manager
- create your own products and where they are stored
- structure products into maximal 3 levels
- every level can be defined to your own choice
- combine same type of products into groups e.g. Oceans,
Hurricanes, Europe etc.
- a product can be a group, generated (there is already an
image) or to-generate (make the image during presenting)
- make files with basic information
- define all the programs you use for weather satellites and
weather watching.

Presentation Manager
- selecting up to 20 products from a list of products
- present them in thumbnails
- synchronized scrolling in steps of 5, 15 and 60 minutes
- call your favourite photo viewer to see the images on full
screen
- use all the options of your photo viewer like zoom, scroll
and print
- choose a different date and time
- display generated images or generate the image "on the flow"
- present details for every image (if in the database)
- display the latest received image in case it does not has a
periodicity of 15 minutes
- display images (jpg, bmp) video (avi, mpeg) and maps(jpg,
bmp) from e.g. Digital Atmosphere
- start satellite- or weather program or go to a specific
internet site.
- directly start the photo viewer to see the content of all
the folders in thumbnails (depending on the options your viewer
provides)

For who is this program meant? POVIM PM is useful for everybody
using programs for generating images from weather satellites of
weather programs and wants to maintain and view them in an easy and
structured way.

During the GEO symposium 2005 and a meeting of the Dutch "Werkgroep
Kunstmanen" I gave a presentation of a prototype of the program.
Since then I changed a lot.
You want to try it? You can find a beta-version of my program on my
site:

http://www.vandenbosch.speedlinq.nl/downloads.html

After installing I suggest you first read the ReadMeFirst file in
the install folder.

Greetings

Fred

Meteosat-7 on the move.

geojohnt@...

All,

Well Meteosat-7 is certainly moving and the change of position (away from 0
deg.) is now very noticeable.
It will be fascinating to actually watch (in HRI VIS) its journey to the
Indian Ocean.

Regards,
John Tellick.

Resumption of dissemination of Meteosat 9 images and meteorological products
will not resume until 1st August 2006.
The satellite is still considered to be under commissioning and will be
back-up to Meteosat 8.

Douglas.

MeToP Press Release

Adrian Chamberlain

Press Releases

July 20, 2006
Launch of first MetOp satellite postponed until further notice
The third attempt to launch the MetOp satellite on a Soyuz/ST
launcher had to be aborted yesterday at only 3 minutes 5 seconds
before the scheduled lift-off.
press@eumetsat.int
Preliminary investigations established that the cause for the
mission abort arose in the Soyuz ground support system in Baikonur.
Starsem and its Russian partners therefore decided in agreement with
EUMETSAT and ESA to suspend launch operations rather than put the
mission at risk.

The launch vehicle and its satellite will now be returned to the
launcher integration facility. In parallel, a new operations plan
will be developed to determine the new launch date.

The first launch attempt on Monday, 17 July, was aborted due to an
incorrect parameter value on the ground system of the launcher. The
error was corrected and verified on a reference platform. The second
launch attempt on 18 July failed shortly after the fuelling sequence
of the launcher was restarted. Unexpected telemetry readings
resulting from the partially fuelled configuration led to this
second interruption of the launch sequence.

Once launched, the first European operational meteorological
satellite in polar orbit, MetOp, will revolutionise the way the
Earth's weather, climate and environment are observed. The MetOp
series of satellites is expected to significantly improve
operational meteorology through the provision of additional data for
Numerical Weather Prediction Models and will also provide an
important contribution towards the improvement of severe weather
forecasts and disaster mitigation.

All MetOp satellites are developed by a joint EUMETSAT and European
Space Agency (ESA) team, with EADS Astrium as the prime contractor.
A total of 11 instruments are aboard the MetOp satellites, which are
provided by EUMETSAT, ESA, the French Space Agency (CNES), and the
US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

METOP - Launch Postponement... !!!

Adrian Chamberlain

Just looked into the ESA site, - interesting.

====================
July 20, 2006

Launch postponement for the MetOp-A satellite

After the difficulties encountered during multiple attempts to
launch the MetOp-A satellite on the Soyuz/ST launcher, Starsem and
its Russian partners - in agreement with Eumetsat and ESA - have
decided to suspend launch operations.

The launch vehicle and its satellite will be returned to the
launcher integration facility (MIK).

In parallel, a new operations plan is to be established in order to
determine the new launch date.

==================

Maybe the NOAA 18 Freq change may postponed aswell!!

Cheers,
Adrian
