R: Re: Tellicast stopped after Update

Vincenzo Mone

Yes Arne,
What I've done when I received the exe file.
I ran it into a directory and I found in the directory I created:
Folder called: Licence_cd_v5_0_18-05-2006.
In this folder the three folder as the cd I received from Eumetsat.
I made the update of all the programs contained into the folder
Windows how suggested in the various text files.
The only problem I've noticed and maybe that could be the problem stopping
the Tellicast ( it is red ) is this:
When I run the file called start in the folder
Licence_cd_v5_0_18-05-2006\Windows\Skystar_4_3_0_a.
I get the message that the pc have to be rebooted or to reboot later.
I said to reboot.
After rebooted the installation becomes again but after I get again the
warning which ask to reboot.
So I said to reboot later.
Ran the tellicast the T becomes Yellow and after a while becomes pink but
just after a couple of seconds it becomes red.
Please any help?
Thanks

Did you reboot your system after updating ?
Can you open the HTML shell ?(rightclick on the T in the tray)
Check the last log entry in Tellicast (or in file recv.log) for a
possible cause.

The Linux update is a Gunzip compressed TAR archive, this will not
install on Windows Guiseppe, so it is not likely that the wrong update
file was choosen.

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Hello Lawrence,

The update files breaching the limit of the RAM disk was not foreseen.

You can enlarge the RAM disk to about 60 Mb using the control panel
AND editing the line "File_database_size=59000000"
A reboot is required.

You could also decide not to use the RAMdisk for a while as we don't
know what the optimal size is for allowing the update through yet not
to waste memory.
Edit your recv.ini and place a # at the beginning of the line
"file_database_directory=Z:\receiving" and "file_database_size=...."
In recv.channels.ini add a # at the beginning of the line
"temp_directory=Z:\receiving/tmp"
This makes Tellicast use the default file locations without limiting
sizes.
Stopping and restarting Tellicast is sufficient to activate this change.

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Just completed the update here all 100% as far as I can see, signal strength
down but it's blowing a hooley here so I'll be on the roof at the week-end I
think.

Did it in the order, Skystar driver, EKU and then Tellicast

Good luck all

Nick

p.s. if you delete the update files, they get replaced by tellicast.

Lawrence,
I'm at work, but if I remember you'd find ramdisk in control panel, then
doubleclick and set new size, then reboot...
Sw package is in the MSG-1 group files area as "AR-Soft-RAMdisk.zip".

Yesterday I did the following:
- stopped Tellique
- removed 0.fsy
- changed Ramdisk to 59Mb
- changed recv.ini to 57344000 (should be enough)
- started Tellique.
This morning the ramdisk stopped again at 24 Mb (the old value).
I am sure I forgot something but what? Perhaps start the system again?
I will wait for tonights mail of Arne.

Greetings

Fred

Yesterday the update was sent at 16:31 UTC.

Eumetsat will resent the update 2 times every day (one in the morning
and on in the afternoon) up to May 31.
So there will be ample opportunities to receive the update.

With the file_database_size set to 24.5 MB the update failed on both
my PC's. More info on increasing the size will follow this evening.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Vincenzo,
I've not updated because I've not received files at the moment, but as I
know about the problem you should have used "exe" file... "Zip" file is

I think you have simply to reintall, maybe new "exe" makes update or

Windows users should only use the .exe file to update the Tellicast
client.
By the way, this windows update does also update your eToken software.

My first guess is that the apparently huge file size of the TC update

With the pre-released Tellicast client at only 6.6 Mb this does
surprise me.

Robert can you tell us the size of the largest file in the update folder ?

This might imply that my recommendations on using a Ramdisk will have

Tip on updating Tellicast Client

a_van_belle

Based on the tests David and I have done with a pre released version
of the Tellicast clinet v2.44 it is advisable to make a backup of your
old recv.ini and recv-channels.ini before applying this update.

If there is an option (cannot test this with the final release as I
did miss the update due to a too small ramdisk) on choosing a complete
install or an update, go for the update as a complete install might
overwrite your ini files and ask your Eumetcast username and password
to be entered again.

Good luck,
Arne van Belle

Both PC's (with or without MSG-2, with TC 240 and pre-release TC244)
handled the same.
I have removed the updates folder and deleted the fsy file and re-started the progs so we will see what comes.

The file_database_size was set to 24576000 which should have been fine I would have thought - I have increased to 48576000 just in case that makes a difference.

Incidentally I hope folk are remembering to archive the updated files!

The 0.fsy file must be able to hold the captured stream until a file
header and matching end of file is detected. Only then the file is
"extracted" and this data is then removed from 0.fsy.

With the update on one PID I guess the update files were sent
sequentially, but there must be room left for buffering the other PID's.

Guiseppe, 62 Mb file_database_size should be large enough to run
without problems at this moment unless you have very bad reception
conditions. If you have stopped Tellicast make sure to delete 0.fsy to
get a clean start !

I see the folder was created automatically at 16:31 UTC but I only
received a Readme file from 964 bytes !

But I do notice that between 16:50 and 16:55 my 0.fsy file grew

This is close to the 24 Mb limit I setup.

This is a bit unexpected as the additional MSG2 stream had very little
