I'm not sure that you can save the file anywhere else, but the file isn't being sent until Tuesday, May 16. The zipped version of the file is 6.6MB.

My own tests so far suggest that the FSY file file may increase in size from a typical 8MB with the V2.4.0a TelliCast software to 13MB or more with the V2.4.4 B software, so if you have the FSY file on a RAMdisk you may want to review the size of the RAMdisk.

Is anyone using EUMETCast without an eToken right now? I'm setting up a new system, and I followed the instructions in the EUMETCast trouble-shooting guide but while I'm getting announcement channel data, I'm not getting anything else. Supposedly, I should be getting MPEF data every 15 minutes.

Ideas?

ramdisk is finally fitted on my PC... it's 256M wide, so I use it also for
some scheduled jpeg and avi.
"Solid state disk" board ( the one posted by Jakub ) costs something like
120-150 euro, without memory...
4x1GB adds 300 euro more or less... totally 200 euro with only 1GB... a
little expensive...

Indeed Ulrich, a RAMdisk is much faster than disk.
As a direct result datatransfer does require less CPU time.

Tellicast takes less than 5% CPU on my P3@1GHz.
So the rest is availabe for decoding the raw data or receiving the new
data streams in the near future.

I am experimenting with a 200 Mb ramdisk too to store the Animator
files and Tellicast.
Unfortunately there is no way to make sure that too much ramdisk space
is taken up by Animator.
An alternative could be creating a separate ramdisc to store Tellicast
data only but the ARsoft supports only 1 ramdisc.

Let's hope the "solid state discs" with 4 Gb capacity will become
available for an affordable price soon.

Giuseppe,

Yes, you will certainly get more traffic!

The beta test version of the TelliCast V2.4.4 B client software was sent
out to manufacturers on May 02, and I've been running it without problems
on my two systems here, for 9 days on the backup system, and for 4 hours
on the main system without problems so far.

It's a simple in-place update, although the new eToken software does
require a reboot. If you want, you can do a clean install instead.

Release 2006.05 of xrit2pic is now available:

You can find here also bzip2, needed for AVHRR.
For Windows there is also a new installer; which takes care of
installing bzip2.exe, if needed.

AVHRR:
- Built-in default colour mapping (RGB=124)
- Conversion to rah format, readable by my wsat (HRPT) software
and HrptReader of David Taylor

Archive:
- The archive directory may be defined independently from the received
dir.
This may be used as an interface between MSG Data Manager and xrit2pic

(better than using xrit2pic's 'received' dir for this purpose).
In this way xrit2pic can load the jpeg files, and then process them
the same way as raw data:
generate Anaglyphs, movies, high resolution false colour pics etc.

Nigel,

The parallel running should give a chance for EUMETSAT and software developers to sort out any problems, so that nearer the time the service goes operational there can be a well-proven set of instructions for user as to how change over with minimum data loss. As there are no new channels or better resolution data, and as the data could be interrupted at any time without warning, and indeed /will/ be interrupted for decontamination, I would not advise anyone to "start changing their system" unless they are keen experimenters. It might also be wise to wait and see if any problems are reported with the new TelliCast Client software, and its best working parameters are known.

In contrast, of course, the AVHRR trials are providing us with exciting new HRPT data, and can be run in parallel with your existing reception with no interference or disruption.

If I recall correctly, at sub-satellite point, in resolution order:

Met5/6/7: thermal & WV channel: ~4.5 km resolution

MSG-1: visible & thermal channels 1..11 - 3 km resolution

Met5/6/7: visible channel: ~2.2 km resolution

MSG-1: high-resolution visible (HRV) channel 12 - 1 km resolution

(Doubtless someone has more accurate Met-5/6/7 series information.)
