To access the Files and Photos areas, please make sure you are
registered with Yahoo!. (If you have a Yahoo! ID, you are already
registered.) Secondly, make sure that you have web memberships for
your group (as opposed to just belonging to a group email list.)"

Thanks, Douglas - I wasn't aware of this as I already have a Yahoo

Today Sept. 02, from slot 0800 onwards we have Eastern Europe back on
HRV !

Unfortunaley we had to trade in the western part of Africa now.

Makes one think Eumetsat has subscribed to a "Lite" ADSL line to T-
systems and have to watch their upload quota !

Image 0030 (ch01 to 03 and HRV) showed a severe sun glimpse again.
Interesting to see how a solair eqlips is seen by MSG-1, hope that it
won't damage the delicate SEVERI instrument !

Same here, Arne. I can't believe they would risk damage.

Did you notice the strange effects on the midnight images, where the
top 200 lines or so were misplaced, as if the scan position sensor
was being misled by solar radiation? They didn't show on the 0015
images, so weren't on the LRIT data. Quite noticeable effects on
the 0045 images, though, both visible and thermal channels, and both
HRIT and LRIT data.

David

TechniSat SkyStar 2 PCI card and USB box software upgrade.

All,

The software for the TechniSat SkyStar 2 PCI card and USB Box has been
updated
to V. 4.2.8.
There appears (to my eyes) to be several improvements and added facilities.

You can obtain more information from www.t-data.lu where I believe the update
is
available.

same happened last night, with errors in the 0000, 0030 (bottom),
0045 (middle), 0100 (top). I had a quick look to following slots but
they seemed OK.

Not sure what this could be, but the 0000 and 0100 image have the top
lines wiggling into opposite directions, could this really be related
to solar radiation? Why the opposite directions?

Small problem

John Parkins <john@...>

Hello Group,

Got around to finally sorting out my computer yesterday, after a while
it gets so full of 'stuff' it needs a spring clean. So I now have a
brand new installation of Windows XP, but...... Having got the SkyStar
card in and working I installed the Tellique software which also runs.
The problem is that as files are being received I get VERY short
hesitations, as though the computer has come to a halt. Now the
hardware is exactly the same as before, apart from the addition of
more memory, but I have used the updated drivers 4.2.8 for the SkyStar
card, the Tellique software is as before. I have to make clear that it
is only while the Tellique software is running that I get these
hesitations. Anyone having the same problem?

John,

I decided to install the new SkyStar 4.2.8 this morning as well and besides of
requiring the repair file, my XP-pro machine shows the same behaviour as you
mention. I personally find it so disturbing that I have decided to roll back to
the 'old' version. That one runs smooth in combination with the Data Manager.

In view of this, I would suggest not upgrading a system that works,
and waiting until Eumetsat release their new version (if and when)
which has been properly tested.....

I am definitely *not* going to update my drivers!

I have also switched back to the Tellique software I had found on the net before I received the CD from EUMETSAT, as I found that the AstraNet/T-DSL version is much more stable (never had any false start, any double icons in the taskbar and other nasty things).

I found the software here:

http://www.ipviasky.de/tsky/down/downtswin.html

Beware, as you might need some fiddling to extract and configure the Tellique software... but I did it, and worked fine even under Linux.

Bye, Luca

Hello all,

Just an update to this, confusing as usual with anything connected
to the SkyStar card. I un-installed the drivers and the card and
then went with the old drivers 4.2.2. This seems to have cured the
problem, but on checking I'm still told I'm using the new 4.2.8
drivers...... I'll just walk away from it slowly and hope it all
carries on working. And just to make this week perfect the other
computer has just made a noise like a cat with it tail on fire, so I
would assume that's a hard disk bearing about to go!

As you are using XP a surer option might be to simply go back to a previous
restore point. It takes a couple of minutes and all harm and driver issues are
gone as if they never were there in the first place.

Re: Oddities with MSG-1

Alan Sewards <alan.sewards@...>

Hi all,
I too am puzzled with the discontinuities which seem to happen more or
less regularly around midnight UTC. This morning, the 04/2345 image was OK,
but the 05/0000 and 0015 were affected, as were the 0045 and 0100, with the
0030 appearing to be OK. To complicate things, the 0015 LRIT image was
distorted in a similar manner to the HRIT, but the 0045 LRIT seemed to be
OK.
It seems very odd that spacecraft imager problems could
be clock-linked, much more likely that there is a software glitch in the
Eumetsat data ingestion systems. The indication that HRIT and LRIT images
differ supports this.It sure messes up the animations! Has anyone
heard anything from Eumetsat on
this effect? Do Eumetsat staff monitor this group?

Best regards - Alan

Alan,

I saw the same effects on the 200309050045 HRIT and LRIT images
(checking channel 9), so could you check again? I have e-mailed one
of my Eumetsat contacts with a note about these issues, and our
concern about possible imager damage.
