Folks,

As this group is about MSG-1 and EUMETCast services, discussion of
DWDSAT is really somewhat off-topic here. I have created a new
group at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dwdsat/

where discussions can be more focussed. I would be interested to
know just which parts of the data you would like to use and how. I
would also like a co-moderator, please.

See you there!

Cheers,
David

most probably my mistake Robert, I was just relying on my memory and
didn't check the image, but common sense tells me it's the 1745 UTC
image. Ever since I moved to Belgium, I quite the like the longer
summer days and have forgotten that it gets dark much earlier down
there!

They are very fine images, Luca. It just gets better all the time, as we become more adept at using this marvellous material. One interesting point - I thought we were working with UTC - but the Po Valley appeared to be in darkness for my 1845 images. So we must be using our local time zones. It was the 1745 imagery that showed the features you mentioned.

Again, beautiful shadows cast on the ground, with the added bonus of

Alan,

I have been advised by Herr Kurt Winkler at DWD as follows...

"To use the DWDSAT data package named GDS (global data set)
you will have to sign a licence agreement with Deutscher
Wetterdienst.
There is a handling fee of 145 EUR for one year (12 months)."

Regards,
Peter
All,

I have the same information here, too, from Herr Winkler. I am
getting a licence agreement sent because the GDS data looks
interesting.
Have added PID 302 all the same to see what happens!

Thanks Thomas, I did not think that all these PID's were needed, just
could not find a list, so I mentioned all PID's that were active on
that transponder.
Better remove the other PID's as I did discover that too many PID's
on a low spec PC can cause missing segments.

So for a DWDsat user you use 100, 300, 301, 302 and 500

Unfortunately your EKU has to enabled for DWDSAT, I tested over here
but no DWDSAT files !

Nothing burning over there Robert,

This is a false triggering due to clouds reflecting solar energy
radiation.
Fire detection only works reliable on areas without dense cloud cover.

To be sure of a fire you have to comply to 6 criteria, GSS cannot
check all these, as you need more spectral bands and would be very
CPU intensive to do so.

Subject: [MSG-1] e-token problems

Last week the number of missing segments on my system gradually increased
from Wednesday to Thursday. By late Thursday all reception of MSG data
ceased and the log-file became an endless string of "Missing key"
messages.
A full scale investigation excluded all possibilities but one: a defective
e-token. I was very much puzzled by the fact that the error came up
gradually and not instantly.

This morning I had a chat with Eumetsat and as it turns out a batch of
tokens may be (potentially) defective. Those have been identified to lie
within the range 00100 and 00200. They are the 16k type and not the 32k.
So, in case you have tokens within these series, anomalous behavior may be
expected.

Eumetsat is taking steps to resolve this issue by recalling/replacing EKUs
(most likely from) 00080 to 00220 within short. People involved will be
contacted by Eumetsat.

Ferdinand

Re: New user problem

timkearsley <tim@...>

Hi Jon,

That's an interesting point. In my case, it appeared that switching
off the RX and then back on "cured" the problem - for a few minutes.

As of yesterday it seems that installing the Technisat drivers
version 4.2.11 (as against 4.2.2, which I had before) has fixed the
problem, as the system worked perfectly from about 1200 until 2300,
when I switched it all off. I need to test further though to be as
sure as you can be in this type of situation.

Thanks for the input. I will keep an eye on resources to see what's
going on.

Regards,

Tim.
