Hi Folks,

apologise if I make an already made question, but

unfortunately I cannot find the email in my inbox.

I have seen this USB TBS-5927 Box more cheaper of Amazon:

https://tbs-technology.de/shop/DVB-S2-S-Single-Tuner-Professional-USB-Satellite-TV-Box-TBS-5927

Is it OK for our purpose?

Here the price is €. 192,44 while on Amazon it is €.315,00.

As I decided to buy it I want to be sure that is the correct one.

Thanks

No-one else has reported lack of data, so most likely it is something which has
happened local to your station. I suggest you determine exactly when your data
stopped flowing, and what event happened at that time to cause the data to stop.

- Check the TelliCast log file for errors.
- Check that you have not run out of memory or disk space.
- Try restarting the PC.

Perhaps then someone will be able to help.

Cheers,

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Hi Ernst

Thanks for the help - all sorted now

Graham

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Ernst Lobsiger

Graham,

and you have done more stuff wrong. You use area "ukmo". This is for the overlays generated from the DWDSAT *.tif images, overlays are 2351x1589 Pixels
But you use an overlay generated with the script that fetches *.gif files from the INTERNET. This area is named "mslp" and overlays are 2148x1452 Pixels

As usual you are too keen and have not RTFM :-). So please change the area to "mslp" in the MSG4 script  (if you have copied it at all to your areas.yaml) ?!

Regards,
Ernst

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Ernst Lobsiger

Graham,

the overlay.png has the size of the Satpy image. That's MSG4.png. You have done the overlay after the annotation at left has been added!

mdstr = 'C:/Tools/ImageMagick-7.0/magick convert MSG4.png '\
 + '-gravity west -background rgb(245,245,245) -splice 350x0 '\
 + overlay+' -composite '\
...

You have to:

mdstr = 'C:/Tools/ImageMagick-7.0/magick convert MSG4.png  '+overlay+'  -composite  '\
 + '-gravity west -background rgb(245,245,245) -splice 350x0 '\
 + ...

Cheers,
Ernst

P.S. Watch the spaces. It seems your variable overlay already has the .png with it ..!?
I named the overlay files in a way you can use the variable Dat from the command line.

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Hi Ernst

I have been having a go at creating an overlay but for some reason my results dont quite match yours
When you have a moment would you mind looking at the attached script and telling me what I have done wrong

Thanks

Graham

data blocked

fly.fechter@t-online.de

Hello,
I use the MSG Data Manager 31 18 1324 with the SR 1.
Since a while ago  no received data appears.
Seems that this data is blocked somehow - tc-cast receives a steady stream of it !
the received files section stays empty !
My antivirus software seems to be off.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Roland

Not sure how high a resolution chart you're looking for but Bracknell charts at 2147px by 1728px are here https://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp_max.htm

Hugo and All,

If you do not want another registration with EKU and telephone numbers etc. you can use the script below
to generate high resolution UK MetOffice overlays. Read it, rename it *.cmd, slightly configure it and run it.

Folks,

The current beta GeoSatSignal continues to support Bracknell overlays. It now
adds support for overlay at 1076x790 pixels resolution, with file names like:
ppva_210928_1200.gif from: http://weather.mailasail.com/charts/PPVA89.PNG

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Ernst Lobsiger

Hugo,

Graham has sent me many megabytes of data from DWDSAT. As far as I can see all usable overlays are found on the https://OpenData.dwd.de server except for the *.tiff UK MetOffice overlays that you also get in good resolution as *.gif from the WEB. I have a BASH shell script that downloads from the WEB and makes the relevant overlays under cron control. DWD has 3 interesting overlays of their own on OpenData as *.png . DWD also provides a shell script for download from OpenData but this does not work as promised. I had to fix that first! If you are interested I can send you this BASH script as well. I can try to make a Windows *.cmd version for the UK Metoffice download from Internet. All you need is a CLI Windows wget.exe that preserves the file modification times (PowerShell seems not to do that). But as usual the problem is the absence of a useful date command. This needs some PowerShell stuff for date again. The interesting overlays from DWD are attached. These are 12hourly (Polar), 6houerly (North Atlantic) and 3hourly (Western Europe). As I said before: Up to now I have no useful answer from DWD concerning their projections and area definitions. So also in this case I had to figure out the projections as described in a former post. There is a Polar Stereographic and an unusual Lambert Conic Conformal with standard parallels at 80°N and 85°N. Not sure DWD support will ever find that out ...

Cheers,
Ernst

===================================================================================

Yes many many years ago when I first registered with Eumetsat for Eumetcast data (Meteosat 6 data !!), when they started distributing DWDSAT data I was required to register with Deutcher Wetterdienst. I vaguely remember getting a lot of help from the Eumetsat team.
I assume I am still registered although I have not taken DWDSAT data for a while.

Douglas.

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Ernst Lobsiger

Graham, Hugo and All,

before Graham Woolf fills my e-mail box with a week of DWDSAT downloads here is my two cents.

The UK MetOffice Ground Pressure Map is found on the net in multiple resolutions as *.gif, *.png.
Some are rather low quality with strong antialiasing, some are provided LATEST others archived.
There are analyse charts (rather usefull) and prediction charts (not usable for MSG4 overlays).

Indeed the DWDSAT disseminated *.tiff version is the best overlay source I have seen up to now.
Making the PNG32 overlays and finding the area definition is for sure not everybody's business.

Here is a script that does the job. Read it, rename it *.cmd, run it. No more questions answered.

Cheers,
Ernst

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Hi Ernst,

Thanks for the links.
I will ask OPS but I think they will ask me to fill in the DWD registration forms .... but if we don't ask it, we will never know.
I will keep you informed.

Kind regards,

Hugo

Re: Where has the Bracknell Overlay gone?

Ernst Lobsiger

Hugo,

I'm afraid DWD still adheres to their old overcomplicated registration procedure. There is a registration form *.rtf  here:

https://www.dwd.de/EN/aboutus/it/functions/Teasergroup/dwdsat-registration-en.html

But if my assumption turns out to be true, this is outright ridiculous as DWD has now an OpenData policy

https://www.dwd.de/EN/ourservices/opendata/opendata.htm

Could you please ask OPS for an easy registration in EOP where DWDSAT is not present up to now.

Cheers,
Ernst
