Re: Urgent Maintenance on EUMETCast Europe

David,

Thanks for the notification.

And thanks to Ian and Douglas for their SNR reports.

I emailed Ops at lunchtime with my several days of readings as reported on this group recently.
They informed me of tomorrows transponders re-calibration.
Fingers crossed????

I would love to see 13.8 dB SNR regularly on TP 1 again (:-)).

Regards,
John

John this morning at about 09.00 local with cloudy skies I had 13.1 SNR which for me is unheard of in central Scotland with a 1 metre dish. Yesterday under similar conditions (dry but cloudy) it was about 11.9/12.0.
It has since fallen back to 12.5 but that is still high for me.

It really ia all over the place.

Douglas.

John , I am seeing an increase in signal today as well up here in Angus but the signal recovery up here is only about 50%.

From about 13.0/13.1 I had dropped to about 12.3/12.4 SNR and today I am seeing about 12.7, so not as good a recovery as you are seeing.

Ian.

Yes, there have been a number of brief high-signal periods recently, and I've reported these to EUMETSAT. As you know, these are outside their direct control, but any reports of problems could be sent to Ops.

TP 1 SNR.

geojohnt@...

Hello All,

TP 1 SNR all over the place at the moment - 15:00 wandering around 12.00 dB.
It should be above 13.00 dB.

It had settled down over the last few days to around 13.2 dB and remained fairly steady for periods.
This is below 'what it should be' was and Power remains 2 dBm higher 'than it should be' was.

Regards,
John

I agree with you, Ian.

I had to re align my dish a few days ago, because it was hit by one of my dogs (!), but whatever I try I cannot get back to the previous signal level.

Shame, as we all need as much signal as possible !!

Hi John, the same here on the South Coast signal range between 13.1 down to 9.8, wonder if this could be due to the recent sunspot activity and the huge Solar flare that hit the Earth this past weekend.

My SNR is down around 1+ dB but my Power reading is up by 2 dBm - sometimes it's 3 dBm up at -22 dbM almost off the SR1 Power dial.

I had a quick update from Ops today who say:

I am seeing a further deterioration in the TP-1 signal ( not monitoring
TP-2 ) and yesterday evening it was down to about 11.3 SNR when I would
be expecting 12.9/13.1. and the conditions were clear.

This morning a slight recovery from last night's lows but the signal is
still lower than yesterday.

It seems to be taking rather long to sort out and I am hoping this is
not the new normal --- fingers crossed.

Ian.
