GOMS3 support in the MSG Data Manager beta

Folks,

For those of you wanting to try the recently released GOMS3 data on
EUMETCast there is a beta update to the MSG Data Manager here:

    https://www.satsignal.eu/software/beta.htm

I am not currently happy with the IR4 data which appears to have a
double or out of focus image (not caused by my program as far as I know)
and the Visible channel seems to have the excessive gain issue which was
present on GOMS2 visible.  IIRC it was far too dark (full scale being
far less than 100%) and EUMETSAT tweaked their processing to compensate).

Reports welcome.

Cheers,
David
MSG Data Manager beta updated today with a better gain setting for the visible channel.
Sample using GeoSatSignal attached.
Cheers,
David

Excellent Graham. I assume you adapted the original script from V1. I am in the process of doing that (so far without success) but successfully using Hugo's EumetcastWatcher/EUMETCasView.

Hi Bernard

depending which data the student is interrested in it may be worth a try to have a look at NASA earthdata.

https://earthdata.nasa.gov/

I didn't right now have a deeper look which datasets are available but I guess NASA also has MSG data. At least CSR and ASR should be available.

Best

Heiko

I am not sure about David's programs, but xrit2pic can handle it (after a small update to accept MSG2).
I don't know what exactly will be done with the image; e.g. currently xrit2pic doesn't handle correct calibration of IR images. But it can reproduce jpeg (including false colour).
Tools of Eumetsat can also be used  (of course), i.e., Data Tailor:
https://www.eumetsat.int/data-tailor
These images can be downloaded easily from internet, without need of satellite receiving equipment, after requesting an api key.

Hartmut,

Nothing specific, but check that the USB power settings aren't allowing
USB devices to be powered down if they are deemed to be inactive.

I suggest reporting this to EUMETSAT in case it's a known issue.

Hartmut,

No sign of problems here (Windows-10), but I did see the "Certificate"
messages (attached) first thing this morning.

I haven't seen any routine crashes, but the occasional timeout. Perhaps less than once a month.

[I have previously reported these spurious messages to EUMETSAT and they are waiting for a response from the software provider.]
