Hartmut,

No sign of problems here (Windows-10), but I did see the "Certificate" messages (attached) first thing this morning.

I haven't seen any routine crashes, but the occasional timeout. Perhaps less than once a month.

[I have previously reported these spurious messages to EUMETSAT and they are waiting for a response from the software provider.]

Graham,

If you're keen to test the data I may be able to ask EUMETSAT to give you access. It would be good to have a second opinion. I think Douglas Deans should already have access, and James Brown too.

Thanks, Ernst. That doesn't seem to be an issue for the MSG Data Manager. However, I haven't checked in detail what use - if any - I make for the prolog data.

This is still a trial phase. David has the EUMETSAT "registered manufacturer" benediction.

GOMS3 support in the MSG Data Manager beta

Folks,

For those of you wanting to try the recently released GOMS3 data on EUMETCast there is a beta update to the MSG Data Manager here:

https://www.satsignal.eu/software/beta.htm

I am not currently happy with the IR4 data which appears to have a double or out of focus image (not caused by my program as far as I know) and the Visible channel seems to have the excessive gain issue which was present on GOMS2 visible. IIRC it was far too dark (full scale being far less than 100%) and EUMETSAT tweaked their processing to compensate).

Reports welcome.

Cheers,
David

Re: Meteosat AMV data

Hamdan

of course

These are the steps to combine a latest Meteosat water vapor or infrared full disk image with AMV data:

Step 1: Run GeoSatSignal and open World View window.

Step 2: Select a water vapor or an infrared image directory, it would be either zero degree or an IODC image.

Step 3: use "4096 x 2048" image size for better image quality and select Merge map (zero) with none Background LUT as shown in image 1.

Step 4: Refresh then Save the the image in "Bufr Viewer" software folder to replace it with "UserMap.jpg" as shown in image 3.

Step5: Run Bufr viewer software and open a latest AMV bufr file of the same satellite. For example, if you are using zero degree water vapor image then you should use a zero degree AMV bufr file.

The result is a combined AMV-satellite image chart.

That looks very useful. Could you list the steps required as I think quite a few people would be interested....

Re: PyTROLL/SatPy Starter Kit V3.0 for GNU/Linux

Ernst Lobsiger

Dear All

While we had a script for Electro-L N2 (GOMS2) as geostationary satellite at 76E in the Starter Kit V1.0 there is no such script in the Starter Kit V3.0.
The reason for this is still found on https://uns.eumetsat.int/  searching for "Electro" ...
<cite>
Due to the ongoing relocation of Electro L-N2 to its new position at 14.5W, the Electro-L-N2 service has been suspended as of 21/07/2020 at 09:30 UTC
</cite>

Now Electro-L N3 (GOMS3) has taken the place of former Electro-L N2 (GOMS2) and EUMETSAT is testing dissemination of the same data we had
before from Electro-L N2. This is 6 channels of full disk 4km at SSP every 30 minutes. The tests started yesterday. Here is some info from EUMETSAT:

<cite>

The file format is compressed XRIT and the filenames have the following scheme:

...

Example:

H-000-GOMS3_-GOMS3_4_____-11_9_076E-000006___-202101112100-C_

The data will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe:

Channel: E1B-TPG-1

Multicast address: 224.223.222.27

PID: 500

Access to these data will be automatically provided for Member State NMHSs and registered manufacturers. Following a successful trial, it is planned to make them available to the wider User community.
</cite>

While the data is not yet available to everybody I got hold of some files and adapted a MSG3.py for this offer that should start rather soon.
Users of the Starter Kit V3.0 can certainly make a similar GOMS3.py script also having an eye on what we used in Starter Kit V1.0. There
is a possible small fix for the PyTROLL/Satpy 'electrol_hrit' reader that currently only lists N1 and N2. I'll discuss that with the developers.

Here my first results.

Cheers,
Ernst
