Dave
You need to add a Data Service for Eumetsat. You can either install the
Tellique DVB software which will remove the tv4PC viewer and all the
channels or you can add the Data Service manually via Setup4pc and thus
retain your TV channels.

In this latter case run the Technisat setup4pc - Satellite Settings - Data
Services
Provider Name - Add : IP Cast EUMETSAT
Transponder - Add - Transponder: 11096 MHz : H/L
Name: MSG
Proxy IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Proxy Port Number: 0
Check : Initial Locking Transponder
Unicast MAC Filter: Broadband Receiver
PIP List - Add (check Hexadecimal):
0x0064
0x012C
0x012D
0x01F4
- Uncheck: Autoset Multicast PIDs
Uncheck: Proxy Auto-Authentication

Assuming Technisat server4PC is running, right click and select the IP Cast
EUMETSAT service. You must of course have installed the Tellique tqrecv
software and edited the recv.ini file with your logon name and password.
Good luck
Roger

Hi All,

Now that we are all happily receiving fantastic pictures and animating long sequences I suppose the promised encryption trial will start. Does anyone have details of when this is due to start. Will we be able to obtain the USB dongle concurrent with this start date ( and will it overheat !!) or will we have animations with sections of gobbledegook in them.

Regards, Guy

Yes this is correct. If you only installed the TV viewer and not the
Tellique CDROM, the wrong data service is set (Sat@once/EOL or T-DSL
all require ASTRA, not HOTBIRD).
So when you stop the viewer the tuner is set to a
frequency/transponder that might be vacant on Hotbird.

Just follow Dave Cawley's advice and read EUM TD15 carefully. Here
you will find how to set the EUMETCAST Data service manually.
But without Tellique you will only get the status screen and
Transponder info "Deutsche TeleKom AG:"
Or wait until you have Tellique installed, this wil set the data
service automatically (and remove the ability to watch TV channels).

I am about to send the forms to Eumetsat, I have the MSG Image Data
Services Registration Form and the ATVOS Retransmission Service User
Registration Form.

The MSG form refers to HRIT and LRIT Direct Reception. What are the
correct service options for the MSG-1 retransmission?
For more info on registration and filling out the forms I suggest you
browse through the RIG-L messages online. You can use search on all

Hi all.

My apologies for the cross posting, however I just found this list where
most of the MSG activity seems to be rather than the RIG-L list where I
originally posted. I would really appreciate advice on the following:

I received the dish and SkyStar card earlier on this year, but have had
a number of problems getting a signal from Hotbird due to a large number
of trees due south of me. After a couple of days last week climbing all
over the house, moving the dish around the garden, I have finally found
one location where I can get a signal. The dish is now mounted with a
narrow view of Hotbird between the house and a large oak tree. Just hope
the neighbours do not complain as the top 2 feet is above the fence.

The dish is aligned to give the strongest signal on a satellite finder.

I installed the card and software following the instructions on David
Taylor's excellent web site. I ran Setup4PC on the status screen, the
Signal Quality indicator kept on alternating between 0% Out of Lock and
70% Locked. I then spent the next hour checking cabling etc. and out of
frustration opened TV4PC, immediately receiving the Sailing Channel.

I scanned all the transponders and now have some 90 TV and radio
stations which I can receive in excellent quality. When TV4PC is loaded
and running, Setup4PC shows a signal quality of 70%, SNR of 10.8 and a
zero BER, but as soon as I stop viewing a TV station, the signal
strength reduces to 0 and unlocked.

Is this correct?

On Setup4PC I also looked at Statistics and do not have any Active
PID's, unlike the screen shot on David Taylor's site. I do not have the

Services Registration Form and the ATVOS Retransmission Service User
Registration Form.

The MSG form refers to HRIT and LRIT Direct Reception. What are the
correct service options for the MSG-1 retransmission?

Apologies for still asking basic setup questions.

Thanks,
Dave

I agree with your list except for the following:
Cycle 1500
also missing g10wv seg 3, g9ir all and g9wv all

Things seem to have got worse since 1530: 1630, 1645, 1715,
1745 have
the odd missing segment, 1800 and 1830 have many.
Thanks, Alan. I omitted the "all" since it might have been local
midnight (at least for GOES 9). I hope Eumetsat see this note from
us all. They are probably seeing missing segments themselves and
working late to fix whatever it is!

Cheers,
David

Yes, in UTC. The Tools, Missing segments report should show the
missing segments correctly, even if you don't take all the channels
(as I recall). If I run it for today (the default is yesterday) I
get the results below. I've remove some FSD which had "all
missing". I wonder if we are all getting the same segments missing?

John Parkins <john@...>

Hello Alan,

The section comes from; technisat_manual_skystar2_english.pdf page 6
on the Technisat SkyStar 2 installation CD. Also in the RAEDME.TXT in
the installation folder is says:

"Problem: My signal indicator drops from 0 % up to 70 % within a few seconds.
Solution: Check the valid function of your receiving equipment. If this is OK
please check if your system is installed in ACPI mode. If yes, try to
use the dvb card in a pci slot named slot number 0 on your motherboard.
If this does not solve the problem, you have to disable ACPI. This makes
a new installation of the operating system necessary."

But if you look at the picture on page 7 of the manual you'll see the
guy installing the card in a slot other than "0". Seems they don't
even read their own manuals.

but am I misunderstanding about 'off' until 13.45. Do you mean
you were not taking data or are you saying there was no data until
13.45 which is definitely not the case.

There were other data gaps today. I probably phrased things badly,
but 1200, 1215, 1230, 1245, 1300 and 1315 were OK. Working
backwards (!), 1345 was when the missing segments started. 1130 had
some missing segments, 1145 and 1200 had no MSG-1 data. 0000 had no
HRIT MSG-1, and 0015 to 0315 had no LRIT MSG-1.

David

If it's any help, my report agrees with yours except for lrit, as
I have the PID disabled so I'm not receiving it.

Sam, yes that is a help. It suggests a systematic error in the data
being sent. Having mutlple reports with the same missing segments
will help Eumetsat identify such problems.

The last major missing segments problem was, I understand, because
the allocated data channel bandwidth could no longer handle all the
announcement messages with the higher number of files sets being
transmitted. All part of tuning the system during trials, I guess!

David

David, I am not sure what you mean by imaging resuming at 13.45.
There was only 2 segments sent with the 11.30 scan, no 11.45 or 12.00 scan
but other than that it seems ok (for the channels I take).
I do agree though there have been more odd segment misses this afternoon
than of recent. By chance they have been with channels I don't take or
areas not on my animation... so it did look better than reality.

Are you saying you were off until 13.45 ?

Douglas.

Yes David, confirmed here - had several missing segments showing up in this afternoon's animations. My registered version works fine now with the new beta incidentally.

Hello john,

Sorry somehow managed to post this to the rig-l group first time
round.......

Well Technisat want to make their minds up.

"3. Now you have to choose a free PCI slot. If possible choose the PCI
slot with
the designation ᅵ0ᅵ. (first PCI slot). So you make sure, that the board
first will
be checked for functionality. Then place the SkyStar PCI in. Unscrew the
slotï¿œs metal dust protector located on the back cover of the case. Lay the
protector on the ground to one side."

I quote from Technisat own installation instructions, slot "0" being
the one next to the AGP slot........

So not always best to follow the instructions to the letter.

Folks,

I believe the time has now come to close this topic.

I do hope that John will publish his results in a form we all can
use, perhaps on the RIG Web site or in the RIG Journal, as I'm sure
that those who have contributed to the survey, those interested in
MSG-1 reception, and Eumetsat themselves will be very interested in
his findings.

Thanks for your efforts, John.

In the meantime, a number of us are looking at how to optimise the
single-PC system for best results.
