Re: A-68A turning again.

Ferdinand Valk

Yes Ernst I did find IW files with hh and tested it out. I agree with your thoughts on naming but I’ve found an extra point for attention. Defining the composite in sar.yaml may require twice the same hh definition when no hv is present. Like:

----------

  sar-quick-h:

    compositor:  !!python/name:satpy.composites.sar.SARQuickLook

    prerequisites:

    - name: measurement

      polarization: hh

      calibration: gamma

    - name: measurement

      polarization: hh

      calibration: gamma

    standard_name: sar-quick

---------------

Providing hv for the second measurement is not accepted and it requires two entries. Whether to use gamma here or not, I’m not sure.

Attached is a result obtained this way.

Cheers,

Ferdinand

Ferdinand,

O.K. with a little help from google I can answer my own question and we should actually reconsider the color composite naming:

"SM, IW and EW products are available in single (HH or VV) or dual polarisation (HH+HV or VV+VH). WV is single polarisation only (HH or VV)."

https://sentinel.esa.int/web/sentinel/user-guides/sentinel-1-sar/acquisition-modes

I propose 'sar-ice-v' should work for VV VH in all SM, IW and EW dual polarisation modes.
I propose 'sar-ice-h' should work for HH HV in all SM, IW and EW dual polarisation modes.

This means we have to copy and adjust some more stuff from the Satpy sar.yaml.

Regards,
Ernst

Ernst,

Yes, the <composite>-iw works well in all variants. I attach a reduced version of the one that crashed your system (legacy) to make the panorama complete. Including remapping it did take about 2’ 20” to complete in high resolution.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Ferdinand,

one thing I don't know/didn't check: Are ther IW files with HH, HV and EW files with VV, VH ?
If so we should reconsider the naming of the color composites like 'sar-ice-h' and sar-ice-v' ?

Ernst

I had myself concocted already something before, but that came out as the attached image. I will try the -iw.

Ferdinand,

The color is easy as well ( 'sar-ice-legacy-iw' did crash even my 24GB PC). In the original ..etc/composites/sar.yaml there already is a 'sar-ice-iw' composite.
You can copy  'sar-quick' etc. to your personal pppconfig/composites/sar.yaml and rename it  'sar-quick-iw' but leave the standard name 'sar-quick'. That's all.
Nothing to do in the enhancements. These are used as before from Satpy's own generic.yaml file.

Ah, indeed. Attached MSG4, downloaded from Internet, Native format.
Normal mapping and polar south mapping.
Combined HRV=luminance, VIS006/VIS008/IR_016 for colour; processed by xrit2pic.

Ernst,

It must have taken quite a load and processing time to do the ‘H’ file on 16GB of RAM, but I’m happy you managed.

I have all versions (hh, hv, vh, vv) working here, as well as the SDH, SSH and SDV plus EW and IW, and all remapping. If you would manage also to get colour out of the them it would be complete I believe. The next thing I would like to tackle (given time and energy) is the SLC, which is a concatenation of sub-images within a long strip.

I really don’t understand why I didn’t start pytroll/satpy much before.

Cheers,

Ferdinand

Ferdinand,

With my 16GB RAM PC I managed to read and display the GRDH IW file from South Georgia. I simply made a vv 'composite' and did not reproject but simply write out the groundrange.
Original image size 214MB, 28625 x 20138 pixels,16Bit. I had to flop the image left/right to make it look the way we are used to. For this IM was handy. Just did "convert SB1.png -flop ...".

Cheers,
Ernst

P.S. I will try to make color composites (vv vh) on my 24GB RAM PC.

attached You'll find a Noaa20 oblique mercator projection. As you can see on both sides there still are the stripes.

Cannot reproduce your problem. Using Version 1.4.9.
