Re: Dish elevation lever.
geojohnt@...
Hello Ernst,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Thanks for the post.
Ah, the dreaded Triax dish mount.
Totally impossible to secure the dish to the post without some dish movement remaining owing to the crazy design.
OK for satellite TV perhaps but not for the alignment accuracy we require for EUMETCast.
Triax told me they had not had any complaints about difficulty in aligning the dish accurately from users and were not going to change the design.
The 'semi circular' dish clamp - clamping onto a 'rounded bracket' back plate allows for azimuth movement and it is impossible to clamp elevation and azimuth separately whilst aligning the dish.
I seem to remember Arne had made a device but I'm not sure I've seen this one before.
Simple and looks very effective.
Regards,
John.

I designed such a thing for the Triax TD100 that has a very poor elevation control. Arne van Belle redesigned it for an easy homebrew construction. Maybe that helps. https://groups.io/g/MSG-1/message/26874 Ernst

Hi Thorsten,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
a very nice image. The ice even sometimes looks light blue! You can also see the smaller pieces floating ahead. A68 is turning CCW the last days also seen on my pictures. This animation tops about everything before. The only improvement I can think of is using a higher resolution for the coastline. These exist in the GSHHG Data Base. A68 gives us a nice contest and makes a lot of fun (might be less fun for the Penguins on South Georgia). We will probably see more results: Graham Woolf and Christian Peters might soon be ready with my Pytroll/Satpy Sentinel-3 scripts for the final showdown ;-). Sorry
As usual I forgot one point: You have to add the xsen3a and xsen3b tmp directories as well. Improved README attached. There are 11 points to follow. Report issues/success on MSG-1. Ernst

Hi ErnstO.K. Here is the Sentinel-3 Update for Windows 10. There is a README with 10 check points you have to follow. You should see A68 crashing soon. Re: Missing segments
Take a look at this, I have basically same problem, but I can't see that E drive, where is the data from Tellicast stored, would be too busy. (Kioxia 512 GB SSD for system and Patriot Burst 1TB SSD for data).

Daniele,
has your LapTop ever worked fine as an EUMETCast6 receiver a couple of days non stop? If not and if this is a rather recent LapTop chances are that you have an SMR 2.5'' HDD inside. If this is the case, check this thread, try to find the exact make of HDD, check HDD load in Windows https://groups.io/g/MSG-1/message/29669 In short, an SMR HDD cannot be used as database for a TelliCast client. It's just crap. Regards, Ernst

Dear All,
David confirmed there is still plenty of space on MSG-1. That let's me post my best images from A68 so far. OLCI full 300m SSP resolution shows that there are a lot of small icebergs ahead (probably fallen off A68). I post one image from each Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B. So you can make sure that these are not artefacts. Cheers, Ernst

Re: Missing segments
Ernst Lobsiger
Daniele,
I can't say that I was looking for something like that. It shows a catastrophic (Basic) TC client. EUMETCast HVS-1 and HVS-2 clients have their separate logs that must be treated as well. If you are running 24/7 (I guess not on LapTop?) you would setup 3 copies of TClogSummary and edit the header to indicate the service in the output. Your version 0.91 is deprecated. I have thrown my Windows 7 PC away and only found the attached version 0.95 on a CD. You should at least use V. 0.95 with newer clients (I hope it works, rename it to *.cmd first). I have only EUMETCast receivers under GNU/Linux here. In any case David Taylor is using TClogSummary daily on a bunch of Windows EUMETCast receivers and can certainly help. Regards, Ernst

Thank you Ernst, the strings I wrote before were from today, where I have gaps in Noaa20 passes (see the attached picture). Anyway I found the log files and they're full of "missed" like these ones: MSG:2020-12-07 11:19:57.330:Missed parts of file `AVHR_HRP_00_M02_20201207111100Z_20201207111200Z_N_O_20201207111456Z.bz2' id 5fce0fb609caea65 from channel `EUMETSAT Data Channel 1' Or MSG:2020-12-07 06:53:27.485:Missed parts of file `IMG_DK01IR3_202012070647_008.bz2' id 5fcdd150036dbf62 from channel `E1H-TPG-2' both on bas and hvs-1 files. Thanks for your help.

Ernst,Folks, The JPEG size is 12,084 kB, so no problem. The size depends on the compression level, of course, so perhaps you have a "Save As" option where you can play with the compression level to keep the detail while reducing the file size. There's some information on storage limits here: https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/7137 MSG-1 is currently using 47% of its allocated 1 GB storage, mainly in attachments, so if we need more we'll need to upgrade us from Basic to Premium. It could cost $220/year (from the last figure I heard). So if you like the images be sure to take your own copy (noting who is the originator to give them credit should the image be published). Re: Missing segments
Ernst Lobsiger
Daniele,
it seems you only checked the most recent log (see date and time). This does not shed light on why you missed files last week. "Transmission interrupted" (it's for priority reasons) is harmless. This transmission will be resumed and files will come in later. "Transmission ended" on the other hand means files will be lost. A "missed (part of) file/s" message follows almost immediately. As I said: Open the log files in an editor and search for 'ERR' and 'missed'. You might have more than one log per client: Check for the date time fields in the lines. These should be from last week when you had your TelliCast reception problems. Regards, Ernst

Re: A68, SAR

Ernst,
I was already reluctant to post it at the 8MB as it was advertised on my PC. Great surprise to see it appearing at 12 MB on the Group. For sure David will be able to either calm our conscience or rebuke us for clogging up the systems. :-) By the way, the image size was already reduced by about 40% and diluted to 50% quality jpeg. The tiff itself clocked in at 220 MB. Concerning similar global SAR data on EUMETCast, I haven’t found it yet.
Will wait for David’s verdict.
Cheers, Ferdinand
