Signal quality

Giftmacher

Hi again, I was tinkering with antenna yesterday and SNR increased from 10.8 to max.11.8-12, but I
think the quality of 58% is still low, should it be better on a 85cm dish? Could that cause the problem I'm experiencing?

Checking a LNB

diogenes1@...

Hello All,
Thank you to those who replied to my settings request. Other than mounting an LNB into a dish and checking for a signal is there any other way, perhaps using a multimeter, to check whether an LNB is functioning?
Regards, Peter

Ferdinand,

that's a very nice image. I wonder if the structures we see on the ice is not copied from the thin cloud overhead (see gray cloud lower left of A-68a).
Unfortunately Sentinel 3A/3B have repeat cicles of 27 days, so the last picture of this quality should be from November 5th. And *YES*, here it is!

Cheers,
Ernst

Yes. Did you not follow the user invite to test which was on Twitter?

Sadly, it's broken many of the links, including links found by Google. It makes it more difficult to help folks when you know the information is there, but it can't be found.

May I add yesterday’s Sentinel 3B 11:29 image, showing considerable ice surface detail.

Francis,

have you tried the full monty debug stuff? Before the script code begins:

from satpy.utils import debug_on
debug_on()

BTW: I got this too, but it’s just an info:

[INFO: 2020-12-02 20:36:07 : hrit_msg] No IMPF configuration field found in prologue.

Didi you try other slots!? Maybe this one slot is corrupt due bad receiving?

Francis,

al fine here with this composite, see pic. Do you really provide all channels uncompressed and even the PRO and EPI file? Could you check whether „files" contains all needed files? Maybe you should post some more of the code?

Hi folks, hope you are all well, greetings from South West Ireland!
I have been using Pytroll, then SatPy for some time in Linux. I moved to Python3 a few months ago, got is sort of sorted, but for a while I have problems with the natural_color_with_night_ir and night_ir_with_background Composits.
I use the first for creating an animation. It used to work, but not now.
I am even providing all the available wavelengths in case I have one missing, but I still get the same error.
When I run the script and get to the global_scene.load([self.composite]) I get this error hrit_msg - INFO - read_prologue - 287 - No IMPF configuration field found in prologue.
I have looked at the SatPy Issues, nothing there. There is apost here  but that was caused by misnaming the composit. The composit I want is definitely in the reader global_scene = Scene(filenames=files, reader='seviri_l1b_hrit')
Does anyone have any ideas why I get this?
 Thanks.......

HVS-2 frequency 11388 MHz, the rest as above.

How have you done that ? Do you have a python script for Sentinel too ?

I take that data  but only process individual segments as they arrive so nothing fancy

Graham,

here is the Python equivalent of what I do with bash and SNAP 4.0 convert. You can integrate that in your Python Sentinel processing script to look for special images.

Cheers,
Ernst

Hi,

I uploaded 6 images from Metop of the A-68A iceberg ( 2 oct,  15 oct, 1 nov, 15 nov, 1 dec , 2 dec  2020) in a perpective projection.
Interesting to see the speed of that iceberg .... (https://www.flickr.com/photos/137270544@N02/)

Hi Graham

First of all todays image is even better looking. It's a central pass over South Georgia and a cloud free view on the iceberg.

I also process every segment of the Sentinels-3A/3B. I still use SNAP 4.0 convert. But as in the python scripts I can set a POI
or even a list of POIs. These images are then hard linked in a special directory and are not deleted after a while like all others.
This is still a bash script but it should be easy to implement that with the range search code I use in all LEO satellite satpy scripts.

Ernst
