Re: Pytroll/SatPy for EUMETCast

Hi all,

I would avoid installing Satpy 0.23 at the moment as I have problems/errors with making FY-3D images.

Regards,

Christian

I have only SatPy V0.21 on Windows and V0.22 on GNU/Linux. Both without problems.
arpack and lapack are scientific libraries (linear algebra, solving Eigenvalue problems).

When i do in environment (pytroll) a "conda list" I only find "liblapack 3.9.0" (Linux) here.

Are you sure you installed your SatPy version 0.23 while you were in environment (pytroll)?

Regards
Ernst

I’m using SatPy version 23.0.  Is this version backward compatible with 21 or 22? After I had upgraded I get error messages complaining that dll loading failed while importing_arpack. I have no clue what I might have disrupted.

I’m a bit confused.

Thanks,

Ferdinand

Well that is my first FY-3D image over the UK without a segment loss or partial segment loss for months although I was not able to check yesterday.
Perhaps things are being fixed now.

Hello James,
I checked this morning and all seems well with FY-3D (other than the individual channel issue that Hugo will fix).
If you select 'True colours' do you have the same issue and does the faulty image also appear in the texture on the globe ?

Regards,
Douglas.
Thanks Douglas,
None of the configuration alternatives do anything except change the colour of the bands. On the globe view the selected segments remain unfilled.
Might try a fresh installation when Hugo updates.
Cheers,
James

Very strange James, especially the segments remaining unfilled.
Cannot think of anything to help other than the very obvious (which I know you will have checked) such as is it the correct files etc. Might be worth a clean re-install just changing over your ini and poi files.
I assume all other sats are working fine in the program.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Regards,
Douglas.

I wonder if under the general heading I could ask what I might be doing wrong with regard to displaying the FY-3D data in Eumetcastview?

When I first installed the new version a few day ago I got some low resolution images when I selected segments off the global view. Now all I get is a mass of horizontal lines of dots.

Any ideas?

I think I might have solved it - something to do with night versus daylight passes. Have to rejig the settings I think as I have found under show all segments files that do work.

Thanks for the help,

Take ImageMagick. With "magick convert" it's easy to add headers or footers with whatever text and font you like.

Further to previous mails, if there are IR channels being sent why does EUMETCastview show the "um" values on all the channels as less than 2 except for one marginally above 2.

We receive FY3D IR channels on both day and night passes.
Here is a SatPy "night-fog" RGB composite from last night
and an older SatPy daytime "micro-physics" image as well.

Thanks for the reply Ernst. I am not too familiar with EUMETCastview and clearly need to spend a little more time with the program. When I run channels 5 to 19 individually I appear get the same image.

Ian.

Having just had a look at some FY-3D data for the first time through EUMETCastview ( thanks Hugo ) am I correct in saying that we are not receiving any IR channels.

I know that the satellite has 25 channels and only 15 are being sent through EUMETCast.

Hugo, I have done a quick check and agree no missing segments (or parts of segments) for NOAA 20 and NPP. I can confirm the Noaa_20 and Suomi_NPP over the U.K. are perfect today. As Douglas said the FY3D still has a black gap.
This is now what we had for Noaa_20 and Suomi_NPP before: All segments are there but one segment is just wrong ...
