Re: MPE MSG Animator

David J Taylor

Dear all,

I used to receive the MPE (rain) channel with MSG Animator. From what I understand these data are no longer published and replaced by a new version.

Is it possible to have this data again with MGS Animator?

Thanks for your help.

Manu
===================================

Manu,

The new h03b data can be found in the Images\SAF\ directory tree. Are you storing those files unzipped or in the .GZ format? I could possibly look at supporting them if there is enough interest.

Thanks,
David

David,

Sorry, I should have worded my comments better.

I went into my account via EO Portal and un-ticked every non VIS and IR imagining data streams I could see from polar orbiter data stream services.
I can't remember now which one, or two only, that (I think) remained unprocessed/un-deleted.

Having done that - and ticked all your 'deal with' data options in MDM and Metop Manager, I no longer suffer from unprocessed data files accumulating.

One batch of files I was unable to stop 'EUMETCast sending' - having un-ticked so many boxes - were the 'EUMETSAT Darmstadt 'sounding' files'
These appear - since I've un-ticked every 'other data stream' boxes - to be transmitted along with the AVHRR data?
If you see what I mean?

However, My Metop-B Manager deals with these successfully.

Regards,
John.

A word of warning, if you have asked Ops to add the Metop-C service to your
licence, then you will probably also be receiving all the various non image
'sounding data' most of which David's Metop Manager can 'get rid of,' but
some, it seems, remain accumulating

John,

What file names are still accumulating, please?  There's nothing
accumulating here, but maybe that's because I have a routine TrimTree
running!

Roland,

I have more than 14 dB SNR with my 125 cm Gibertini dish in Germany:
http://www.ing-miglus.de/eumetcast/snr.html

What is the brand of your dish and LNB?
Aligning a 125 cm dish is very tricky. You need a accuracy better then one degree for best SNR.
Cheaper dishes with lower mechanical stability may not be adjustable to the required precision.
Also optimising the skew and focus of your LNB is required. Tiny deviations make a huge difference.
In any way 11 dB SNR is to low for a 125 cm dish. There must be something wrong.
I reached 12.7 dB SNR with my old 90 cm dish!

Cheers,
Thorsten

Most likely this strong signal is from Eutelsat 9A !

I reset the dish to get the usual modest signal from Eutelsat 10A - max 11 Db, -40dbm-

Very disappointing  to me probably there is some "interference" from neighbouring satellites weakening

my 10A signal. I aspired to get a sufficiently strong signal for HSV data - eg the Goes sats - but the

weak signal from 10A excludes this and confines me to 'Basic service data, I think.

It is a true pity to shut out users like me from the highly interesting live Goes data.

Cant be helped, though.

Re: Metop-C AVHRR level 1 iglobal mages

Roland,

Firstly as Ian has said:

Metop C Image and Polar wind data will come through EPS-10 basic
if you have requested the data from Eumetsat ( via portal ).

If you do not have a separate Metop Manager set up to handle Metop C
then I would assume that it would be building up in your EPS-10 folder.

As I said, both Metop-B and Metop-C are disseminated via the bas EPS-10 channel/stream

So your cast-client-channels_bas.ini should look something like:

[channel]
name=EPS-10
receive_buffer_size=8000000
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\bas\EPS-10 data (might not really need 'data' on the end)
tmp_directory\=\EUMETCast\tmp\bas

Both Metop-B and Metop-C data goes into this folder therefore your Metop Manger 'Tellicast Metop AVHRR global received files path' box should look something like this:

E:\EUMETCast\received\bas\EPS-10data\

'E:\' is my EUMETCast data HDD storage 'area.' It can be wherever you want it - C:\ - is probably more usual?

If you do not have a specified Metop-C Manager running, then as Ian says, Metop-C data files will be filling up your EPS-10 target directory.

Regards,
John.

Until now neither the AVHRR manager nor my Metop manager have shown anything which I can classify

To finish, does Metop C send data 24/24 and where can I find its exact schedule ?

Re: SR-1 no traffic

Roland,

Thorsten is right - and as I have said several times, you have a problem with your 'front end.'
With a 1.25 m dish in your location, you should be getting far more SNR than you were before your recent re-alignment.

What make of dish do you use, what make/model of LNB do you have and how long is your cable run and what type/make of cable?

With a 1.25 m dish in your location, receiving HVS-1 - and all its channels should be 'a piece of cake' - ein Stück Kuchen.
The translation probably doesn't convey the meaning of the English saying.
Ganz einfach!

That you now have 15.8 dB SNR indicates as Thorsten has said, you are 'on another satellite.'
Though, with your size of dish, again I agree with Thorsten, you should have 14 dB + SNR.

Eutelsat 9-B is receivable in good strength with a dish (accurately) aligned on Eutelsat 10-A - I watch TV from 9-B via my EUMETCast 1 m dish and a quad LNB.
And 9-B has a much higher power output - central Europe wide beam 51 dBW compared to 10-A's central Europe wide beam of 48 dBW.

But, Eutelsat 9-B's Ku-band transmissions start at 11.727 GHz V so I don't think this is the satellite you are pointing at.

That's good news, John. I'm still having to delete some stuff outside any of the managers (~600 MB files IIRC) but no-one else seems to have this issue, so I'm guessing it's manufacturers-only at the moment.

Roland,

Eutelsat 10-A is a Ka-band satellite with transmissions starting at 19.732 GHz L, so neither 9-A or 9-B should interfere with our EUMETCast signals.

Max,

You can always screen-grab the image you want - if you are viewing at the appropriate time.

Alternatively, you first select the chunks containing the are you want in the browser view, then open the one or more chunks in the HRPT Reader, and select the processing options to produce the processed result you want.

Perhaps someone can give you a more detailed tutorial?

I would save the whole image and then cut out the bit I need in PhotoShop or (free) Paint.net. Sometimes a bit of tweaking (as distinct from faking) can be quite useful too.
