TC V2.14.4 and RAMDisk?

geojohnt@...

Hello Group,

I wonder if there are users in the group with a one PC receiving/processing system, receiving all BS and HVS-1 imaging and using a RAMDisk.

As many will know I've at last moved to TC V2.14.4 for BS and for the reception of HVS-1 channels with 'varying degrees of success.'

I'm running:
MDM - MSG-4, IODC, RSS GOES-16, GOES-17, Himawari - and Animator for RSS.
AVHRR Manager, 2 X Metop Manager.

All 24/7.

I have good BS SNR, and 'more than adequate' on HVS-1 from a 1 m dish and Inverto Black Ultra LNB

Now, my single PC system computer - i5-4690K @ 3.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 64 bit Windows 10 - appears to have slowed down since having all the extra programmes running in regards of opening and loading data for HRPT Reader and GeoSatSignal.
Not a problem but one now has to wait a little longer.

I noticed since upgrading to the 'latest' TC, that my previous RAMDisk of 997 MB is not being used.
OK, I know that TC V2.14. xxx is designed to do the job of RAMDisk in temp folders, and I see it does just that.

However, I had a look at the 'latest' EUM TD 15 yesterday and see that it has quite a lot of information on configuration and using a RAMDisk.
Not only that, suggesting(?) the use of SSD's against HDD's, for their speed.
Pages 34 - 35.

I know that SSD's are not in favour by some(?) but I wonder if anyone has any comments/experience on 'still' using a RAMDisk and using SSD's in the data path?

Regards,
John Tellick.

Hi to all,
sorry for troubble but I have not found any usefull help, too many topics with the same title , more or less, but I havent found a solution.
This in my situation :
With old tellicast a eku (TC 2.4.4 and old Eku) I read all my subscribed channel, and , under LICENSE, I read , in 4th position, ****.**** etc string.
Now I' have update the eku and tellicast to last downloaded fron eumetsat ftp site.
Start Uku and basic service, click on TEST.EKU.bat and I read , in 4th postion, host key, of the popout window, the ****.*** string.
Open tellicast shell,in log I read may message ,and afther 5/6 sec , I read  'could not join channel  etc etc...'
Under License , my 4th position is empty.
If run HVs-1 service, under license, my 4th position is regular "***.*** etc"
Is there any one with a solution?
thank's in advance to any

Re: Metop A

From about 16.55 Uk time some MetopA polar wind data (amv)
is incorrectly being sent on channel EPS-10 Basic service. MetopA polar
wind data is as it should be coming through EPS-10 on HVS-1, so I am not
sure if it is duplication, though a quick check suggests it is not.

Regards
Ian.

Thanks for spotting that, Ian. I suggest reporting to Ops if the issue continues.

Re: Dartcom Receiver

Graham Errington

I have opened the receiver up and it's not exactly the same but quite a few of the components used are the same.

Would you be able to scan what you have and send it to me, it might help.

All,

My SNR is way down at 16:00 GMT with only non rain bearing cloud.
I see that there are a lot of storms around Austria so presume the uplink is affected.

All,

Interesting, I see that we all suffered lost signal for short periods around 14:00 GMT from David's station readout graphs.

Yes there has been serious problems with all services since about 14.30 clock time UK with thousands of lost packets and no signal for long periods.
Looks to be better now. Likely the European thunderstorms as you say.

Dartcom Receiver

Graham Errington

I have the opportunity to buy a Dartcom Satellite receiver, 136-138 Mhz for weather satellites. There isn't anything on it to identify which model it might be. Knowing a bit about its provenance I know it is an older model but it is in very good condition.

The problem I have is I don't know how to connect it to my computer, there is a DIN socket on the back which is where all the connections will feed into, I've been told that there are two connections for a tape recorder and one for the computer.

Does anyone know what the wiring diagram is for the DIN plug and as I don't have a tape recorder anymore can it be connected to a digital recorder or is it really necessary and could I just dispense with this. I assume that the end of the connections are audio plugs to connect to the computer etc.

Also which is the recommended software for displaying the images/maps.

Graham

Re: EUMETCastView Image rotation

Greetings Douglas, I use the programme mainly for MSG data display and the other Geostationary
satellites, haven't made use of the "Projection" facility until now and the availability of NOAA20 data.
Your image looks good so now trying to manipulate/understand the "Projection" features to provide the image
quality available from NOAA20. Regards, John Morris

And as an example John here is a NOAA 20 image (one of my older ones) of
western Europe with a GVP projection in full colour.
Once you master projections it is very simple and remember you can save
projections (locations, zoom etc) in your POI file.

Regards,
Douglas.
