Any info on Maximum symbol DVB-S2 rate limitations (Msymb/s)? it is specified for 6903 but not for the 6903X.

Re: Rainfall

It's the same.
Water of 1x1 meter, 1 mm thick =10*10*0.01 dm3 = 1 dm3, that's 1 liter, 1 kg.
So 21 kg = 21 mm.

Hm, too simple...?

Rob.

Nigel,

I recall having this discussion with EUMETSAT some years ago, and IIRC the outcome is that the numbers are the same - but perhaps that was rain rate rather than total amount. I hope someone here can answer.

Paul,

It would be best if EUMETSAT answered this, but I read it as "Don't need to
pay for the licence component of the eToken." They may still have to pay
for the hardware, and the licence cost of the software.

Let's hope that a simple guide is published.

I guess you will still have to apply and pay for the licensed TelliCast Client Software and get the EKU in addition.
Otherwise I would order EKU number 4 right away, Maybe someone knows or asks OPS what it really means?

Douglas,

Had you heard about this before? I'm amazed at (apparently) such changes
with just one day's notice! I was thinking that end-users may have been
e-mailed, but not manufacturers.

I remember something about licencing from last year but I thought it was
just my 5-yearly renewal. I don't recall any significant changes.

Likely it's good news for those who don't want to pay for an eToken!

Hi,
From memory there were already some changes introduced in mid-November last year, these new changes go a little bit further.
Still nowhere near as good as NOAA, however, who offer all their data free-of-charge (even for commercial use) in near-realtime via the Amazon and Google clouds.

Cheers,
Simon

BDADataEX

David Pykett

Hi All

I have recently had a problem with BDADataEX as soon as it loads it comes up with the error as shown in the screen dump, it happened midway between Microsoft updates so I don’t think I can blame them, I have rebooted the PC and even shut it down and restarted it, the thing is everything still works even though there is an error message, the message keeps re-occurring every second and even if you click OK or click the cross in the corner there is another error exactly the same underneath, I would say that everything is still being received OK on HVS-1 even though the error message is there

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

FY-2E satellite retired

From "Weekly Operations Schedule":

"The FY-2E satellite at 86.5 deg East has been replaced by the FY-2H satellite at 79 deg East as of 11th Jan 2019. The dissemination of FY-2H products will start as soon as they are available to EUMETSAT."

HVS-2

Ian Deans

Further to recent mail, I have to report that my TP-2 signal is now identical to my TP-1 signal at about 13.2/13.4 SNR with an occasional 13.5.

This change happened about 2/3 days ago.

Ian.

Re: Himawari

Hi David

These are the files I get (Which I think are correct) and the settings within MsgAnimator
So I think what confused me was all the names
Himawari -B01 047um through to B16 13.3um
But if I just use the IR1 to IR4 and Visible 0.64um it works ok.

Best regards
Dave
=====================

Dave, I checked the MSG Animator with another channel (3, 0.86um) as well as Vis, and it works as expected too. You need to check "Process extra channels" to get all the data (Setup, Channel selection, MPEF page). If you don't need them, you can save some memory by leaving that unchecked.

Glad it's now resolved.

Cheers,
David

Hi

I used to be able to run MsgAnimator with the Himawari data but now no
matter what I do I can’t get a Himawari Animation its as though it doesn’t
read the files but I can do one in GeoSatsignal OK, can anyone help in what
I am doing wrong (I am using the very latest MsgAnimator from David’s
Website). Other animations from different sats work OK

Thanks
Dave
============================

Dave,

I just checked here with a 48-frame, full disk animation (one I happened to
have) and it works correctly.

The MSG Animator (.303) expects all data to be in the normal structure -
i.e.

D:\MSG\Images\FSD
D:\MSG\Images\HRIT

with names like:

201901050940-him8-vis.jpg

Are you sure you're using the latest beta MSG Animator - V3.1.5.303?

Cheers,
David

Re: ftp access

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

Dear David,

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, this did not work. After
experimenting a lot, I added a rule in my internet modem to forward port
6000 - 6100 to my PC and I configured Filezilla to use these ports in
active FTP mode. Does your program use a specific port? It gets the file
name to retrieve, but does not get the data itself. I think your program
would be very easy to work with and also for automatic mode.

Best regards,
Nico
================================

Nico,

I just checked the program here and it works correctly. No special port settings are required. I have no proxy, and I am not using Passive FTP.

You can indeed schedule the program to get the most recent data - see the command-line arguments in the read-me. The FTP data port could be any number, so no port forwarding should be required. Port forwarding is only normally required when data incoming to the PC/router is unexpected, and in this case the program triggers the first connection so the router knows where to route the incoming packets. I take it you are registered with EUMESAT for the FTP service?

Cheers,
David

Re: 1400hrs step change

geojohnt@...

James, Ian, Douglas and All,

Never mind the recent 'ups and downs' my TP1 Basic SNR remains much lower than it was this time last year.
During 2018 it went down and up a couple of times but my last Jan/Feb/March SNR level of 13.8 dB to 14.3 dB were only repeated once.
Currently, and for several months now my SNR has been 13.1 dB to 13.5 dB.
[I've always had diurnal variations]

OK, I have more than enough link margin for Basic and HVS-1 but something has changed.
I'll take this up with Ops again now we are into winter again.

Regards,
John.
