Re: Warning messages on Tellicast

Christian,

Installation package "eumetsat-setup-2.14.4_7.msi" is mainly for African users to update their stations to DVB-S2 for the beginning of August 2018.
After the installation, a new service is created: afr-1. This service must be started to receive EUMETCast data on C-band (EUTELSAT 8°W).

But any EUMETCast user on Ku-band can update his station with this package. All services are installed (BAS, HVS-1, HVS-2, TER-1).
Tellicast version is updated to 2.14.4.

Hope that these additional explanations can help.

Best regards,

Laurent

Hi Hugo
I've seen your video and it is nice.
I am also using ffmpeg to do animations, and I am surprised because you said ffmpeg is fast, that is no my experience. Can you share with me which parameters are you using for a video like that?
Thanks.

Ian,

I got an email from Eumetsat pointing to this site:

The link was taken from there.

I wonder why that is not being sent out daily on
info-channel-1 as it does appear to be the latest version.

Like James I have just checked and it is still 2.14.2 being sent.

Thanks for the update.

Do someone know if it is related to the EKU (driver?) or something different?

Many thanks in advance,

Laurent,

You get these from time to time, a few are nothing to worry about.  How many a day do you see?

BTW: I see I'm running 2.14.2 - am I out of date?

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the quick response.
These warnings appear not every day. And only 1 or 2 warning per day.

Best regards,

Laurent

Ok Rob, I stand corrected. I don't think it would be to difficult to implement such a feature in EUMECastView ...

The internet is lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And lines to code before I sleep,

And lines to code before I sleep.

Kind regards,

Hi, Hugo.

I disagree with you that an automatic update wouldn't add much.
Some time ago my xrit2pic could only create video in a manual way. As a result I didn't do that very often (actually, rarely).
Now I have it running in a full automatic way (including removing old data), covering western Europe, using RSS, and it is fascinating to see how clouds are forming, moving, hanging against coasts etc. Each day is different. I think the only way to experience that is to have an automatic way of creation; you never know what next day will bring.

Regards,
Rob.

Hi David, Graham,

In the beginning the program will probably not update the video automatically. ( I don't like to use scripts ). The reason is of course that my system exist of two PC's, one receiving the data and one running EUMETCastView and my programs must run on Linux as well as on Windows. But that being said, if you keep the calculated video images from a previous run, a new run ( for example 1 hour later ), will be very fast because the program will only calculate the added video images. For creating the video itself I use 'ffmpeg', which is very fast, (https://www.ffmpeg.org/ ) and runs on Windows and Linux.
Updating the video automatically makes the whole thing more complex, and, in my humble opinion does not add much to the usability of the program.

Hi Hugo

Wow - that sounds fantastic One other question - will it auto update the animation as new images come in ?

Graham
================================

I guess you know that the existing MSG Data Manager and GeoSatSignal software offers most, if not all, these functions as well, and will run under Linux/WINE? Automate via a scheduled script.

David

Sounds really useful Hugo.  Looking forward to the release.

Sorry for strange mail format but BT third party pop3 servers are down again (or not synched) so having to reply via webmail which I detest.

Hi John,

I am currently in the process of writing a video extension to EUMETCastView. It will allow you to make video's of all the geostationary satellites data, but also of the projections.
( and maybe later of the different RGB Recipes ).
On my youtube channel I published already a small video made by the program. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLwZf-C5aIM).
The program isn't ready for releasing, but in a few weeks time it should be ready ( there are also the holidays ...)

Kind regards,

Hugo

John,

it will be possible to make video's from Meteosat-11, -10, -9, -8, GOES-16 and Himawari-8 . The frequency of the images from other sats are too low.

Hugo

Greetings Hugo and thanks for directing me to the YouTube video.

Now looking forward to a future release of EUMETCastView with the animation feature.
Will there be incorporated a choice selection of either 15min (MSG-4) or 5min (MSG-3) RSS
channels.                Appreciate your efforts with this programme.  John.
