Graham,

You will be able to choose from every spectral band that is available to create an RGB color video ...

Kind regards,

Hugo

Sounds really useful Hugo.  Looking forward to the release.

Sorry for strange mail format but BT third party pop3 servers are down again (or not synched) so having to reply via webmail which I detest.

Regards,
Douglas.

Hi John,

I am currently in the process of writing a video extension to EUMETCastView. It will allow you to make video's of all the geostationary satellites data, but also of the projections.
( and maybe later of the different RGB Recipes ).
On my youtube channel I published already a small video made by the program. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLwZf-C5aIM).
The program isn't ready for releasing, but in a few weeks time it should be ready ( there are also the holidays ...)

Kind regards,

Hugo

Looking forward to using this new feature when available.

John,

it will be possible to make video's from Meteosat-11, -10, -9, -8, GOES-16 and Himawari-8 . The frequency of the images from other sats are too low.

Kind regards,

Hugo

Greetings Hugo and thanks for directing me to the YouTube video.

Now looking forward to a future release of EUMETCastView with the animation feature.
Will there be incorporated a choice selection of either 15min (MSG-4) or 5min (MSG-3) RSS
channels.                Appreciate your efforts with this programme.  John.

John,

Yes, actually, any source can be used. Also e.g. the ioc, with 30 min. interval.

Rob.

Re: EUMETCastView

xrit2pic can produce animations right from the received files.
I have it constantly running, producing a growing "animation-of-the-day", starting from scratch each day.
mplayer is used to show the animation, xrit2pic creates the growing avi file and controls mplayer to restart if a new part is added.
Maybe not the easiest to set up, but it works perfectly for months, without manually interfering (except for looking now and then...)

John firstly welcome back.

John there are no animation options within the EUMETCastView program itself although I have often thought it would be an excellent addition to the program.

Of course there is also David's excellent software but Animator will not animate the files processed by EUMETCastView and requires MSG DM to save in the appropriate way for Animator.

You can of course use image processing software but automation is very difficult (particularly without programming skills).

Regards,
Douglas.

Thanks for that.
Actually you suggested this during a 'bad signal' patch a year or so ago.
I did look at it, the 'building' and configuration of the programme and felt it was beyond my ability and didn't want endlessly to have to ask 'how do I set this up.'
The other thing would to only have a scale detailing 12.5 dB to 14.4 dB.
Today it's cool and cloudy here with the dish and LNB 'cold' and SNR is down to usual morning/day lower level 13.6 dB - quite steady at the moment, 09:43 UTC.
Power is -26 dBm which is the cooler evening reading.

John.

John as you are noticing today the one thing I can say is that whatever is causing the signal drop that you and I and others are seeing it is NOT the hot weather.

This started with me in temperatures of around 10 degrees C on a cold east coast with mist and fog and the drop has not varied in the heat or even the cooler cloudy conditions today.

I am still about 0.5 SNR down and dish alignment and skew are fine.

Regards
Ian.

Re: TP-1 SNR.

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

David,

Well, a further update, the Sun has been off the dish and LNB for a few hours now due to cloud - and I installed a fan on the SR1 which is now cold and SNR is still down at 'lower' levels at 16:10 UTC and still 'stepping.'
At 16:08 the SNR 13.5 to 13.8 and back.
At 16:25 still stepping 13.6/.7/.8 with a .5 thrown in every now and again.

I should have added originally my Power reading drops to - 27 dBm when the dish and LNB are in full Sun.
- 26 in later afternoon and if the evening is cooler - some hope - at -25 every now and gain, which it was last winter/Spring.

Yes, an automated plot with a span of 12.5 to 14.5 dB SNR would be very useful.
I say from 12.5 since for the first time since monitoring my levels regularly my SNR has dropped below 13.00 dB for a short period today.

Regards,
John.
