Re: Windosws 10, version 1803 trouble

Thorsten Miglus

I removed a probably faulty memory module.
Afterwards I installed version 1803 with success.
Now I am operational again with reduced memory and Windows 1803.
Running overnight will show if the issue is fixed.

Cheers,
Thorsten

Any other reports of problems, or successes, with 1803 would be welcome.

David,

I use Novra receivers only.
Now the crashes appear with Windows 10 version 1709 too.
The Windows memory diagnostics tool shows an erreor.
I assume a contact problem with one memory module.
But I have to investigate further.

Thorsten

David,

I have no idea what causes the crashes.
On my second PC, mainly used for internet access, 1803 is running ok.
As all is running fine with 1709 for months I decided to stay at this version.

Thorsten,

I don't know whether your windows was crashing on the boot or on one of your programs. If it is, I don't know whether you know about this program, called “Who Crashed”. It's very good for finding out what Windows has crashed on and is free for personal use.

It may be that you have an FTDI driver problem. I had to update my FTDI drivers.

The problem I had last night was that when I shut down. Windows kept on rebooting instead of shutting down. I've yet to find a problem.

What component causes the crashes? Is it the TelliCast software? If it's the device software, which device and what drivers/data software are you using?

I had multiple crashes with TBS data software, but none with BDADataEx (still using the TBS device driver).

I've not yet updated the main PCs here to 1803, but there have been no problems with ancillary PCs. I did read that there may be a new permission for programs to access the microphone (seems reasonable!) which may affect some radio programs.

Sorry to hear that Thorsten.
I got the update about 5 days ago and absolutely no problems so far. The computer is 5½ years old and does everything including Eumetcast both Transponders. Probably be my turn at the next update !

Many thanks Hugo. Working perfectly.
As I also noticed with the NOAA 20 test M and DNB data the new CVIIRS and compression arrangement has greatly sped up the speed at which VIIRS images are created in your program. Nice bonus !

Re: NPP Image Data

Thorsten, Douglas, Ian,

EUMETCastView is already able to process the new CVIIRS 2 format. The files for NPP are now internaly compressed and not bz2 compressed.
I will upload (later in the day ...) an updated version.

Kind regards,

Hugo

Thank's Douglas for clarifying this. As I use the latest version of EUMETCastView this makes sense.

I know he has prepared a program for the new NPP format so perhaps it will be released soon after testing.
