Re: How to disable automatic updates in Windows 10?

Alan Banks <alanjamesbanks@...>

Hi Ulli

This works for me.

Press win+R; type regedit and press enter.
Browse to the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
If you do not have a WindowsUpdate and/or AU entry, you need to
create them. Follow the 'source' link below for add'l info on how to
do this.
Inside the AU key, create a new 32-bit DWORD called
NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers, then double-click on it and set its hex
value to 1.
You'll have to reboot for the change to be applied.
Please be aware of making a backup of the registry before messing.

This results in the PC not being able to find a time to do the restart
ifr a user is logged on.

You still get the updates but you decide when the restart happens.

Cheers

Alan

That is the GOES 16 data now stopped on Eumetcast T2 for the next two weeks or more as GOES 16 is moved to its operational position at 75.2° W. Please see :-

Hi Gerard

I’m pleased it is working for you let’s hope it continues to do so.

It is snowing here also on the east coast of England.

Hello everyone.

Many thanks Dave,
I Think you are right, this is the only reason I find because everything seems ok by the way.
I stopped everything last night and started again this morning without changing anything.
To my great surprise everything is working properly and yet it's snowing !
The signal is now 10.9 dB. This may be the possible reception limit for this transponder!
Thanks again,
Good day to all

Hi Gerard

I had the same problem as you but with the TBS card the problem was I didn’t have a strong enough signal even though the basic channels worked ok I was unable to connect to HVS-2, I now have a SNR of 11.2 after changing my 90Cm dish for a 1m dish and a new LNB and after very careful adjustments managed to get the current readings, prior to that the SNR was about 9 if it went up slightly I did get an intermittent connection but never there for long enough to be able to download any files.

I hope this helps

Gerard I don't use the SR1 for HVS jobs just BS, so I am not sure how
much the configuration sets up.
Have you the correct MODCOD for T2 which is 8000 and also PIDs which I
believe are 610 and 611.

By the way the GOES 16 channel on T2 is :-

E2H-TPG-1

There are other channels but for test data.

Hi to the Group!
I am looking for the correct download link for CrazyCat's CrazyScan software!
I know of the link to the Russian site via David's website but I did come across this link on Sourceforge:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/crazyscan/

Is this link for the correct software?

I guess also I need to install the drives for the TBS-6903 which I can get from the TBS website first, before installing the CrazyCat software?

Will this be all I need?

Sorry for the basic questions but would appreciate any help with this!

Re: Ayecka SR1 Upgrade!

a_van_belle

Use car wax to make your LNB cap repel water drops. Droplets should run down, not cling to the cap's surface.

A 2 liter coke bottle placed over the LNB cap works even better, the trick is that even though the bottle will collect some raindrops, these are at a greater distance than droplets on the LNB cap and cause less obstruction.

The umbrella works fine, especially with snow but David tested this years ago and it was not able to withstand the Scottish gales !

Wet snow is predicted for Scotland and the Netherlands, A good spray with Silicone or Teflon spray on LNB cap and lower dish part can momentarily prevent snow from building up. But only heating pads and/or vibration motors have a lasting effect in heavy snow.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

One further comment. I bought an inexpensive LNB rain/snow protector
and
that has turned out to be the best ᅵ20 ever spent on the system !
Good point! Does this imply that a layer of raindrops on the LNB front cover (which
will have collected dust, pollen etc.) does more damage to the signal than a
rainstorm? Most clouds will probably drift beneath the signal path. And there
weighted distribution over space and time will probably be equal or less than a thin
waterlayer on the small entry area of the LNB, where it is probably also more or
less directly coupled to ground when everything is soaking wet.
Cheers,
U.
=============================================================================

Yes Ulrich the rain droplets on the front of the LNB have a huge effect.
I have seen rain overnight still present on the front of the LNB and despite clear skies, a relatively low signal. A blow from an air can (my dish is at ground level) can increase signal dramatically. If it is still raining it can mean the difference between a loss free HVS signal or otherwise.
I must admit I was surprised at just how much it has helped.
It has cut my weather related HVS losses (particularly HVS-1) down to a minimum.
Obviously here in Scotland there are still times when the skies darken and even SKY TV goes but those are much more rare now in my Eumetcast system.

Regards,
Douglas.

Re: Ayecka SR1 Upgrade!

Ulrich G. Kliegis

We import your scottish rain directly from the manufacturers here in
Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern federal state in Germany, just south of the
danish border. And the satellites radiation pattern footprint has a nasty dent here,
leaving us high and dry while others swim in deciBels.

I won't be able to upgrade and change anything before next year, so I can employ
your experience then... ;)

U.

Re: Current signal strengths

David J Taylor GM8ARV 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇪🇺

I don't know whether the vertical signal has been removed, but the signals
I'm receiving over the last three weeks are the same as I normally get at
the weekend. Which is signal strength 98, quality 98 and signal to noise
ratio peaking at 14.7 db. I know that the strength and quality does not
matter too much. My equipment is the TBS 6983 and the software is version
3.0.5.0. The dish is 110 cm with the recommended black LNB of which I had to
add some stabilising arms, as in windy conditions there was a bad loss of
signal. The dish took me rather a long time to set up and now if I press on
any section of the disc. I lose signal. Initially I got the LNB skew correct
but focus was way out.

My location is a few hundred yards east of Highbury Corner which is
approximately 2 miles north of the City of London.

Don't know whether this will be of help to anybody.

Prem,

From my own observations (checking both H and V), V has been off form at least 2017-11-03-1945 until when I last checked: 2017-11-28-0635

I guess we must enjoy it while we can, as INTELSAT will want the income from that transponder!
