Re: GOMS2 decoding

Thorsten Miglus

Roland,

I am using MSG Data Mager Version 3.1.7.1255 (newest beta)
Data is received on data channel E1B-TPG-1

A Entry for this channel is required in cast-client-channels_bas.ini

[channel]
name=E1B-TPG-1
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\EUMETSAT_Data_Channel_4

Be sure to select a target directory that is scanned by MSG Data Manager.
EUMETSAT_Data_Channel_4 is a good choice.

Then check the GOMS Channels in Setup->Channel Selction->FSD

Cheers,
Thorsten

Thanks, Thorsten - I am now getting the data but am unable to open it.
Kindly tell me which-what programme-Software YOU use to open the data to see the images themselves.
Thanks in advance,

Subject: [MSG-1] HVS-2 query

In view of the July 3 change to the second transponder (full
availability) I
tried to test the reception already now. I used the SR1 configuration
file
from folder
SR1CFG_DVBS2_T1T2_ACTIVE-T1_CONNECTED_MNGT-MLCST-ON_HVS-ENBLD_THRHLDS06-07_v
264, followed by network address changes via Telnet, necessary to cope
with
my network configuration.
On configuration set 1 I have transponder 1, resulting in correct
reception
of both BAS and HVS-1. So the SR1 is properly configured.
Configuration set 2 contains the second transponder as per
configuration
file. The only change I made in this context is MODCOD => 8000 for the
8PSK5/6 which should be valid until the third of July.
This HVS-2 stream seems not to come in as the SR1 controller shows the
red
No Lock. I do have written confirmation of Ops that the HVS-2 stream
has
been enabled for my account; so I'm at a loss,
Am I overlooking something here? Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Ferdinand
==============================================================================

Ferdinand because the new full configuration for T2 is on the same
transponder as the existing partial availability the new
set up will not be available until the change is made by Eumetsat
between 09.00 and 11.00 on Monday morning 3rd July.
It is not possible to run both configurations and in addition they don't
have the full Transponder yet.
Test data is still coming in on the existing T2 arrangement (different
frequency, symbol-rate and MODCOD) until 3rd July

Regards,
Douglas.

Hi Ferdinand,

Transponder 2 is now on 11378.5 MHz.
Symbol rate is 15000 kS/s.

Thank you both for your kind reply.
GOMS IS ticked-my question - does anyone of you get already any GOMS2 data ?

Hi Roland,

yes, GOMS-2 data is flowing. Have you already requested the data via EO Portal?

Hello ,
Eumetsat has kindly amended my subscription by GOMS2 data. For this
data I
added to my recv channels
"receivedGOMS2" and there is now a lot of DK01B4 data in it . It
being BZ2
data I am unable to open it.
I use the latest MSG data Manager and the latest Geosat Signal .
Surprisingly no Gom images at all appear
in the respective windows of the msg data manager. May I please have
your
advice for solving this problem ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards
Roland
And make sure under the Data Manager/channels tab you have GOMS ticked,
Cheers
James

Re: GOMS2 decoding

Simon Proud <simon.proud@...>

The bz2 data is from Himawari, not Electro-L N2, although data from both
satellites will appear in the same folder. The Electro-L data has standard
HRIT format, so will have EPI, PRO and -C_ files.

Cheers,
Simon

PS: You can decompress the Himawari data using software like WinRAR...bz2
is a type of zip file, compressed to save space.

Thanks for the update David. I am quite surprised to see the
probable cause as I would have thought that would impact on most users
rather than a selected few.

Ian.

Yes, I agree, Ian. It's what made me think of something which is station-dependant such as polarisation, LNB, cable length, or receiver bandwidth.

To be continued.

Folks,

I've just heard back from EUMETSAT that the issue is being addressed by
EUTELSAT and that there is another 0.5 to 1.0 dB increase expected. I
don't
believe the exact cause is yet known, but transponder noise was
mentioned,
possibly caused by interference. I suggest keeping a careful eye on
the
SNR/LinkMargin values.

I'm unsure whether this applies to both transponders.....

Cheers,
David

A slight shift in the beam would be more likely to impact some more
than others.

David what I meant and did not explain well was that WLM is no longer
supported and like an unsupported OS there are now no security updates
which I personally feel is a bit risky.
I am using eM Client ( free version ) which is actually very good but
I have not yet figured out the text anomalies in preparing mail.

Ian.
=============================

Ian,

Yes, unsupported, so it might be a risk, but nothing like the risk of an unsupported OS. It will be good to hear your findings on eM Client in due course. Perhaps there's a support group where you'll be able to resolve the issues.

Cheers,
David

Please excuse the mail presentation as I am using a new mail program
as
Windows Live Mail is no linger supported ( security issue ) and the
presentation here changes when sent --- much to learn.

Ian,

WLM 2011 still running correctly here.

If I had to change, I would likely try Thunderbird for e-mail. It
works
well as a newsreader.

Hi

I have noticed again today that I haven't had any Marine data through. Looking through the MDM logs I note that no data has been received by me since the 23rd June and MDM has therefore deleted the empty directories as I have retention set for two days.

Is anybody else seeing the same and has anyone had any data since the 23rd June ?

Many thanks

Graham
==================================

Nothing recent, Graham.

Have you checked with Ops at EUMETSAT? I don't know whether there is a reporting page for this product.

Cheers,
Davis
