David,
I downloaded new beta geosatsignal but there is not himawari channel 6 in RGB setup,
Could you please add this channel,
Thanks
===========================

Roman,

Please try beta 1109 just uploaded:

http://www.satsignal.eu/software/beta.htm

Note that any RGB channel numbers for RGB jobs will need to be checked and possibly re-entered. Please read the release notes and note that this is a beta version likely with incomplete or erroneous coding!

Cheers,
David

Re: Tellicast 12.2.1 throughput graph

Hi David,

Thank you for your reply, your list is similar to my experience.

One thing on the new Tellicast 12.2.1 has me confused regarding the directories: the rec.ini file now has <memory> for locations which I do not quite understand: Does it save to the RAM memory in a similar way as what a RAM disk is used for?

I have installed Telecast as a root directory in C: which somewhat confusing as I am sure you are aware gives you 2 directories EUMETCast and EUMETSAT with the latter having the application etc. with cast-client.ini as seen below:

[]
[locations]
file_database_directory=<memory>
log_file=>>\EUMETCast\logs\recv_bas.log
license_file=C:\EUMETSAT\EUMETCast\license.ini
channels_file=C:\EUMETSAT\EUMETCast\cast-client-channels_bas.ini
[]
so at present it is completely unmodified and I have not yet even attempted the HVS service yet!

The process is a bit like untangling a ball of wool but I am still blown away by the quality of the imaging received!

Cheers
Gerard
=========================================

Gerard,

Briefly: the <memory> is for part of what the x.FSY files were used for in the earlier TelliCast. You may now want to put the 256 database files into RAMdisk, but do try it without first.

Personally I would advise creating a completely open C:\Tools\ directory, and then installing TelliCast below that:

C:\Tools\EUMETSAT\EUMETCast\

I could not agree more that the choice of directory naming in confusing, and I don't think it's essential to getting the software working. The only advantage is that we all stick to the same standard.

Cheers,
David

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your quick and helpful response. I hear what you say and although I don't really surf the net from the receiving PC, I do use the browser if only to download various programs/update keplers related to reception of Eumetcast. Apart from that I keep internet access off.
Being used to a Mac and OSX I am wary of having this machine on my home network.
So I will just ignore this issue.
The next task I have set myself is to learn how to dive the data stream as I have not quite come to grips with that. I do not suffer any issues with missed packets and frames the only thing I have noticed that Metop A often seems to miss 5 segments or so in the middle of a pass roughly south Scandinavia /north Scotland whilst MetopB and NOAA are flawless. I did read a post mentioning a peculiar aspect of the data dump and maybe that is what I see.

So sofar I am not yet using a RAM-disk, nor a split channel reception directory as what I have read sofar still looks somewhat daunting and I am weary to mess something up.
So more challenges lie ahead.

Thanks again for your help
Gerard
==========================================

Gerard,

Yes, ignore the lack of graph for the moment - removing the Java security completely (which is the suggested solution) is not one I would recommend.

The coverage of ground stations in the EARS service may not be complete - for example the Spanish station has hills to the immediate north, preventing pass coverage down to the horizon. There may also be scheduling conflicts with the usage of the receiving antenna. Checking here for yesterday:

0754 Metop-B complete
0809 NOAA-19 one small gap
0839 Metop-A one big gap
0935 Metop-B complete
0945 NOAA-19 complete

When the MSG Data Manager or Metop Manager report missing segments or chunks, that's the time to start thinking about improving the system with divided data streams and perhaps a RAMdisk. A sample of splitting the data for TelliCast 2.12.1 might be (untested):

_______________________________________
[channel]
name=EUMETSAT Data Channel 1
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\EUMETSAT_Data_Channel_1

[channel]
name=EUMETSAT Data Channel 2
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\EUMETSAT_Data_Channel_2

[channel]
name=EUMETSAT Data Channel 3
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\EUMETSAT_Data_Channel_3

[channel]
name=*
target_directory=\EUMETCast\received\
_______________________________________

Your root "received" directory will likely be different, of course.

David

Hi Gerard,
I'm still on the old version. The JAva issue is a security risk. There is a fix but I don't recommend it as it leaves your system vulnerable.
I posted this some time ago.

JAVA Fix.
Those who recently updated Java have noticed that the moving graph in Tellicast no longer works.
This is a fix supplied by EUMETSAT engineers that bypasses security in Java by replacing a java.policy file in the program.
This would make any browser insecure if used to surf the web.
I hava a copy of the file that EUMETSAT have allowed me to share with those that need it. This on the understanding that those applying it do so at their own risk of the security issues involved.
It does make any browser insecure and one shouldn't use the PC its installed in to browse the web. (I've been told to say that!).
Install at own risk.
There is a java.policy file that needs to replace the one on your system.
Mine is at C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_31\lib\security\
Make a backup copy of the current file.
I used a command prompt copy copy java.policy java.policy.ori (Thats what ops told me to!)
Install file. (I've zipped the file as the original seems to effect the server) Unzip and use.
Restart PC and you should be ok.

There are issues as I've found placing the fix file on the web messes with permissions.
As far as I'm aware its an issue that EUMETSAT need to address and we are better off living without the graph.
Regards
Alan

With excuses as I am not able to link the screenshot I see but I will describe it: The page of Telecast loads but where the graph should be is an error sign when clicked it brings up a box with : Application error> AccessControlException. access denied("java.net.SocketPermission""gerard-imacpc""resolve")

Java on my machine is up to date and has in security settings http my pc :8100 allowed so I must be missing something

It is not ruining my whole day but I would like to use your collective knowledge to see where I am going wrong.

The 5925 driver does come complete David but you the user make the final decision which operating system you have and install accordingly, ie 32/64bit "dpinst", but I have to say hand on heart I have not had any system crashes with TBS-IP Data software since the early days of testing, and I am in the middle of testing a new bit of kit, but no crashes, glad you have your PC back on line, any other software you need just let me know. Best Regards, Mike

David, just to correct any thoughts otherwise TBS Drivers are compatible with 32bit PC's provided that the correct "dpinst86" which is for 32bit is installed correctly it is contained within the Driver Software, its been the one file that I have helped members with during installation. Regards, Mike.
===================

Thanks, Mike.

As the TBS_5925_setup.exe also installs the driver I would hope that It would get the 32/64 bit selection correct. In any case, 64-bit drivers wouldn't run on a 32-bit system. It did run correctly for a while but then crashed. It's been my experience with the TBS IP Tool all the time, but CrazyCat's BDADataEx has been OK on the 64-bit system.

Fortunately I've now been able to restore the tablet I was using for testing back to normal operation.
