100 days uptime without packet loss
ernstlobsiger
Dear Eumetsat
Dear all Just a big thank you to Eumetsat that managed to improve the EumetCast uplink chain that gave us a couple of simultaneous lost packets all over Europe in the past. This effect seems to be gone since mid January 2011 about when I installed 2 APC Smart UPS for my EumetCast receivers. An here comes the publicity part: For the last 100 days both my GNU/Linux receivers have not lost a single packet. So another thank you to the community that keeps up making and improving Free Software. Cheers Ernst See http://www.gymalp.ch/~eumetcast receiver links at the bottom.

I have just a small dish, because the old bigger one was broken by stormy wind. (and I have also a stupidly set extension cable which obviously decrease the signal quality.) Anyway. It is working OK.

Re: occasional red T icon
Here are my statistics (in a few hours period):Kornl, Difficult to make a judgement - if that was a receive-only system running XP then I would expect zero missing packets, but my dual-core Vista system with the DVB World box gets about 10 missed and 10 recovered per day. I had not realised that once you get the red T, that reception was permanently stopped. If the RF level and frequency still look to be correct, it could be a network issue - check with a PING 192.168.238.238. On an 80cm dish here I see about 63% quality, and 8.3dB SNR. Your 54-57% sounds a little low (as does mine), and you can compare with others here: http://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/performance_eumetcast-europe.php Cheers, David -- SatSignal software - quality software written to your requirements Web: http://www.satsignal.eu Email: david-taylor@blueyonder.co.uk

James I don't run overnight and like yourself have not had any MODIS data for a number of days. However having been out for about an hour I have just returned to find data has commenced again and that includes the fire data.

Command line options for MSGM?
If my memory serves me right (well, yes, if...), I once saw a descripton of
what command line parameters are available for MSG Manager. The text file that comes with the package does not disclose that, and a look at the relating webpage did not really teach me more here. Where have I put it? :) I guess, -START will do what it says, like for the METOP Manager, or? And are there any more? TIA, Cheers, U.

Re: Missed messages?
Hello John and David,Actually, with recent versions of the MSG Data Manager there is an option to automatically remove unprocessed files from your \received\ tree. On the Setup tab, Options, File controls, RX disk space control, just select a non-zero value for Auto-clean minutes. I would suggest a value of 480 (8 hours) for folk who run on a daily basis, and perhaps 1440 minutes for those on 24 hours a day. The Tools, Housekeeping report menu has display where activity from this option can be seen in the lower panel. You can also my TrimTree program to clear out many directory trees on the basis of "delete files older than N days" - it's a free (but unsupported) program available here: http://www.satsignal.eu/software/disk.html#TrimTree Add it to your night job or login job. Hello John and David,

Even with all software up to date, it is recommended to check your received folder at least once a week. There are so many data selection options in MSG data manager, you can easily have overlooked one. And we occasionally see new or trial products accumulate here. About your temp files, these are failed attempts to compose a file from the FSY files. No space left on your hard disk could also cause this. Greetings, Arne van Belle

Re: Missed messages?
All,John, I'm on limited and intermittent access right now, but in case no-one else has commented: - please keep up to date with the current MSG Data Manager: http://www.satsignal.eu/software/msg_dm.htm - please add yourself to the e-mail notifications for updates at the bottom of this page: http://www.satsignal.eu/software/updates.html I'm sorry that you missed the announcement, which was on several Yahoo groups. I try not to e-mail users directly, as some would regard it as spam. Delete the temporary files older than one day. If the RAMdisk is near full, and it's otherwise convenient, I would stop TelliCast, delete all temporary EUMETCast files, delete the *.FSY in the RAMdisk, and restart TelliCast. The temporary files are from incomplete data transfers. Missed messages?
geojohnt@...
All,
Having experienced several gaps in HRIT and AVHRR data this afternoon I 'went looking' and found low Ramdisk capacity - which is usually a suspect. But also I found a rather large received folder - 733 MB's. And the temp folder full of empty and 'filled' files. The files in question in my received folder were: L-000-MSG2_-MPEF_____-FIRC____000001 plus a date. These seem to have accumulated since March. In my temp folder there are many files such as: 4c8fc ..... 4c922b ..... Most are 0 KB, several a couple of hundred KB and some many MB's. Er, they are not much good sitting there clogging things up. Regards, John Tellick.
