MSG channels

My Asus P5AD2 E motherboard was replace a second time and has again failed.
Have replaced it with Asus P7P55D-E, Intel i5 2.66 quad core and installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a Intel 80 Gbyte SSD. My origional 3 SATA drives hold the programs and DATA. It is fast.

The Eumetsat data is down loaded on a dual boot laptop in Vista 32 bit as I cannot get Telecast + DVD World to go in the Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have a similar problem getting the Tellicast to work in Windows 7 professional.

A trial version of MSG Manager and Geosatsignal on the Windows & 64 bit and LAN networked to the laptop goes well but I am only receiving :

MSG channels 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 12.

Please have I missed something in not getting the other channels as I have not seen any Eumetsat messages ?.

Sorry for the long preamble but it may be of interest.

Peter

Hello,
As Technisat does not have any desk USB box for Eumetsat data
I have to look for another supplier.
I know there is a good UK made box available which most of you use.
Could you provide me with a link to or the address of the
respective UK manufacturer. Where did you buy it from - price ?
Thanks in advance.

my yellow T problem - yellow Ts proliferate !

Roland Fechter

Good morning !
Further to my first message I now experience the fact that
the number of yellow Ts shown increases rapidly !!
Further I glimpse rapid messages saying "connect with localhost" and "wait for localhost". Local host is correctly shown as localhost:2517
Surely some of you have had to face and solve the same situation.
Would you mind telling me how you managed to solve it ?
Thank you very much in advance.
I look forward to your help.

Re: RAMdisk considerations

a_van_belle

OK Geoff,

Have not tried my script on Win7 myself so I am not sure my script will work.

Even if you point \received\ to your RAM disk you do not need a RAM disk guard script as long as MSG datamanager is running.
David's program will either process the raw data or copy it to your \images\ folder or delete it if you have not selected it under Channel Selection.
Just make sure your \Images\ folder is always on a hard disk.

But you may need to upgrade to the latest MDM version to include the ever growing number of products send over Eumetcast.
If your MDM is "out of date" new types of data will remain in your received folder, clogging up your received folder on RAM disk.

Greetings,
Arne

Hello to the Group !
After reloading my system using XP professional now
I am plagued by a permanent yellow T.
I have tried all versions of the Eumetsat software - from v. 4 to v. 5.5. to no avail.
The announcement channel remains in the "connecting" state although data flows in showing this bar with pulsing green dots.
The log mainly says "critical dongle server error eToken server timed out trying to restart child" and "eToken manager timed out after start"
Switching on and off my Avira firewall doesn`t have any effect on this
nor the use or non-use of the Gavotte ramdisk.
As I am at the end of my wits & patience may I appeal to the Group`s
epertise and rescue.
Thank you very much in advance.

Roland,

Does anything in the trouble-shooting guide help?

http://www.satsignal.eu/wxsat/atovs/EUMETCast-trouble-shooting-guide.html

Does your eToken pass EUMETSAT's test?

It sounds as if you have both a networking mis-configuration and perhaps an eToken setup error.

Cheers,
David

Roland I assume that you have checked that your name and password are correct. Very easy to have an error on that unless you pasted it.

Your IP address must be OK if it is yellow.

Today RSS ch12 shows massive thunderclouds forming over Central France with an almost explosive blast of downdraft just before dawn !

I hope this does not result in more flooding.

Re: RAMdisk considerations

Ian Deans

Geoff I would also recommend if you haven't already changed it that you put
your temp directory into RAMdisk as well. In recv.ini that is the setting
under parameters "temp_directory = ".

I have been testing with Tellique and temp writing to the RAMdisk and then
temp only to see the results. It is probably fair to say that on a two
computer system there will be little benefit as there should be no losses
anyway, but in my case my occasional losses were due to my one computer
being used for other than Eumetcast and it has eliminated the odd losses.
I am using a 350 Mb RAMdisk when Tellique and temp is writing to ram ( and
that includes the .fsy files ) and I do also take MODIS. However I do not run overnight so the RAMdisk restarts every morning.

I run 14 hours a day.

Regards
Ian.

After reading the posts from Arne, I am now running a 700mb ramdisc,
(dataram). Its works very well, and my main SATA drive is now a lot
quieter, and less active. The ram disc has the RECEIVED and RECEIVING
folders on it. I take MSG-2 and 1.NOAA AVHRR CMA, METOP, GAC, and the
info channels. It runs at about 3/4 full normally. MSG Manager runs on a
separate PC via the wireless network. I would run wired, but the switch
generates too much interference at 50Mhz, which is a problem for my
amateur radio activity.

On a different tack, the Eumetsat product navigator has been downloaded
via I think the WWW channel. It doesn't seem to work. Individual pages
open in my web browser, but its not a joined up site, or I can't find
the main page. Wonder if its me or is there a problem with it.?

Cheers..........Geoff

Re: RAMdisk considerations

a_van_belle

hello Geoff,

Good to hear you have success too.
Make sure that your tmp_directory in recv.ini also points to Z:
( I use tmp_directory=Z:\TMP )

When testing is complete I will upload a script that initiates the folders on RAMdisk after a reboot and guards your RAMdisk from overfilling when new products are added or processing halts for some reason.

Eumetsat product navigator can be started by opening
www\eumetsat\product-navigator\indexer.html
Note that activeX should not be blocked.
It may take some time (1 day ?) for all the www data to download completely. Currently my www folder holds 5.03 MB in 340 files

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Re: Missed packets

Ian Deans

Yes I lost 1 Met-9 and 1 RSS at about 12.30/35 UTC as a result of the missed packets. Very frustrating as I am presently doing some tests with temp and (or)Tellique in RAMdisk so it makes it a little more difficult to assess the results when losses are introduced that you have no control over.

Thanks for the reminder.

Ian.

A bit disappointing but it looks like the Metop-A data from the Fast Dump
Extract System that has been added to the EARS-AVHRR service is only
covering the pole. The existing data on the FDES service ( ascat and
ATOVS )
covers from approx. the equator to Svalbard on the ascending pass ( hence
fast dump ) and I assumed the EARS - AVHRR would be the same.

Regards
Ian.
Coming up over Europe the EARS Metop FDES is starting much earlier. About
10 N to be precise.
I do agree that for ATOVS the FDES is starting at that elevation for all
passes.

Douglas.
