I see the Ku-band strength has dropped since just after 12:00 UTC today across Europe:

but we are still seeing packet loss after then.....

Hi All,
This from Debbie at Ops

Dear Alan Banks,

Subject : EUMETCast Reception Issues

There are currently some problems with the Usingen Ground Station, these
problems are under investigation and we will get back to you as soon as
possible with further information.

Best regards

Alan
Thanks, Alan. As I thought, this is probably outside EUMETSAT's direct control, so we can but hope for the best.

Re: [SatSignal] Re: new key

Guy Martin <guymartin@...>

Arne,

I thought we'd move here as we were off topic. I'm running the trial version of Stellar Smart. It reads both disks OK. The temp of the 250Gb Seagate Barracuda starts at 24C and levels off at 37C even after 6hrs. The SSD has no temp readout, it doesn't get warm.

Running Roadkil's Disk Speed test I get a max speed of 160MB/sec for the SSD (varies slightly with the block size) which agrees roughly with the makers figures of 150MB/sec. They also quote the same figures for MLC & SLC via a SATA2 interface. You would need some form of DMA interface to make use of the very expensive SLC drives. The Seagate only makes 72.4MB/sec max thus confirming my subjective impression of faster boot-up, shutdown and general use.

I use a separate machine for receive, an older model but ticks along happily.

Cheers, Guy

Hello Guy,

Although speedtesting software can be fooled by ramdisks and fast SSDs, you could try the free versions of HDtune and HDtach.

HDtune will also read temperature and other SMART parameters.

If the SSD performs well you could place Tellicast's *.fsy files on it to get more free ram.

Greetings,
Arne

Kobus,
xrit2pic has 11 built-in channel combinations to detect several weather fenonems like fog, ash, dust etc. They are all described in Eumetsat docs.
I don't think the one you need is in, but if you can find the formula you can enter it yourself.
Any combination of channels and channel pair substractions, using any temperature range and gamma values can be mapped on RGB.
Besides direct received data also jpeg files as generated by MSG DM can be used as input.
Results can be generated in (e.g.) standard jpeg files, and you can also generate a movie.
See:

Rob Alblas.
.. and, of course, GeoSatSignal offers similar channel combination facilities. The real question is what to combine and how! Do we have some meteorological experts on the group? Perhaps a question to ask at the forthcoming EUMETSAT User Conference in Bath, UK.

Cheers,
David

Yes I got to a rather large 1.fsy file on my RamDisk as well as a full 0.fsy. First time for more than a year.

I know its shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted but.
1. why did you have to reinstall? I presume after previous posts you had a working system.
2. Are you using the same Recv.ini and recv-channels.ini files as before?
3. Have you not set up the same as before? eg folders and paths
4. Have you got Java installed?
5. what else has changed?
6. what colour is the 'T'

Folks,

I would be inclined to report it - just to confirm the other reports, but particularly if it's causing you lost data.

http://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/EumetcastEurope_MissedPackets.html

I'm sure EUMETSAT are aware of it, but their top man in this area is still on holiday....so we may have to be patient. It will be affecting the primary users - National Weather Services - as well, of course.
