Re: Uninstall AR-soft ramdisk

Ian.

The AR-soft RAMDisk is listed in Device Manager,
Ah, so it is - didn't think of looking there.

should be able to disable and remove the driver through Device
Manager
Just done that and DVBWorld has returned.

Just to make sure I installed ramdisk again and the system immediately crashed again when
trying to start DVB. This time the crash screen stayed up long enough to actually see it.

"Bug code - USB -Driver"
"Stop" followed by a list of memory addresses
"Beginning dump of physical memory"

Removed ramdisk again and DVB returned - Something somewhere obviously doesn't like
AR-soft. I think I need to look for an alternative ramdisk software for XP pro.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Trevor

No, the TelliCast software still benefits greatly from using a RAMdisk.

No you still need the RAMdisk Robert, particularly if your are taking Metop. Even without Metop some of Met product files nowadays are quite large and certainly the CMA 1 Km data drops the RAMdisk size when I start up in the morning.

Well John, this is the way it comes up on my screen - and it had me confused for ages until I spotted that TP14 was not giving me the right polarisation. Then I noticed the wrong frequency!
Anyhow I'm about to uninstall and reinstall Eumetcast software and EKU, my most recent disk says 'EUMETCast Client Software V 5.0' thogh the readme file says the software is V 2.4.4b. So I guess this is the one to use.

Ian,

Quite interesting looking at this more closely. In Device Manager, it
suggests that the AR Soft device is associated with a service called
"ramdisk", but this isn't listed in the Services Manager, so ypu can't
just disable it there.

Checking the files shows:

\Windows\Ssytem32\ramdisk.cpl - 94,208 bytes

\Windows\System32\drivers\ramdisk.sys - 10,431 bytes

Once the PC has been rebooted with the AR Soft RAM disk disabled, those
files could be renamed, check reboot of the PC, and then deleted assuming
all is well. Just to remove the Control Panel item: try renaming:
ramdisk.cpl to ramdisk.cpl.old.

BTW: Trevor, the device we are now using for Windows-7 tests is this free
RAMdisk:

http://www.cenatek.com/product_page_ramdisk_download_list.php

the one at the top "Dataram RAMDisk".

Re: Uninstall AR-soft ramdisk

I will try that later when I close down. I had originally tried the AR-soft RAMDisk when setting up Windows 7 but I am using the Dataram RAMDisk.

The original AR-soft RAMDisk drivers were removed through Device Manager ( there is an option to do this when disabling ) but I do see ramdisk.cpl in Windows System 32 so I will rename it and see if the Control Panel entry disappears.

Thanks David.

By the way I see the MSG LSA SAF data has started again, although with a few gaps. Lets see how it settles down.

In Windows-7 at least, Device Manager:

- Memory Devices
- AR Soft RAM Disk

Thanks for that pointer, I was going to ask the same question (to get my 128MB of memory back!).

Another Point I perhaps should have mentioned was that when I was using the
AR-soft RAMdisk I had to use the setting " Emulate a local hard disk "
rather than Ram disk mode. Having said that using the wrong setting simply
stopped it working and it did not even show under My Computer. Your problem
seems slightly more severe !!

Subject: [MSG-1] Uninstall AR-soft ramdisk

I'm setting up a new system on XP pro based around the DVBWorld box. The
box installed ok and
I've set the PID's etc. Installed TelliCast and eToken and confirmed that
data is flowing as
expected and then went on to edit recv-channels.ini to sort out the file
structure etc.

At this point I installed AR-soft Ramdisk, set it to 80mb (83000000 in
recv.ini)

Now, when I start up DVBWorld, the system crashes with a screen of
information that is too quick
to read. On other occasions the DVB opening screen comes up but everything
freezes.

I'm assuming this is something to do with the ramdisk install but I can't
find anywhere to uninstall
it. It's not shown in add/remove and I can't find where it lives either.
I've disabled it through the setup screen but its made no difference to
the crashing.

Does this ring any bells - any advice appreciated please.

When you say the system crashes when you start up the DVBWorld Box, I assume that is with Tellique running. If you start up the DVBWorld box without Tellique presumably it is working OK. Your problem with the RAMdisk is likely to be Tellique related.

Hope that helps.

Thanks John, I think I'll settle for your last point 'sequence of software installation' and have a go at this later today.

BTW I have TP14_12034_V_27500 and TP11_11977_H_27500 so I am receiving on TP11 at present.

Hello Robert,

Just to say sorry for leaving you high and dry yesterday following my
'you've got problems' posting I had to go out.
I was though sure you had been receiving EUMETCast via a SkyStar card
previously so your dish must have been on 9 E.

Thanks to Ian and David for taking over.
Just to confirm and for those configuring the DVBWorld software manually
you first have to select 'Eurobird-9 at 9 E' in the left hand side slots of
the Sat Config page [having clicked the spanner on the opening page]then
select TP14_11977_H_27500 in the top slot list on the right hand side page -
which will fill in the other boxes automatically.
By then clicking on Scan TP on the right hand side it will download the
channels on this transponder only - one of which will be Testbild - and fill
the window on the left-hand side of the opening page.
Double clicking Testbild will show media broadcast colour bars and test
tone - which can be rather reassuring.

You should now have green signal level graphs.

As David said, you now need to set the IP reception on the IP Config page.
Again you have selection on the left and right hand sides.
Select Eurobird 9 at 9 E (if not already selected)
Scroll down the list in the box below and select TP14 11977 27500 H34 and
you will be able 'send' this to the right-hand box and click 'Apply'

However, doing all this manually instead of via EUMETSAT's CD configuration
you would then need to manually enter the required PID's - which is a bit
time consuming as they have to entered one by one.
But it's not difficult.

That's the end of my knowledge - your problem appears to be IP addresses
'within' your computer which confuses me (and made even more complex with
Vista! (grin)) though Ian and David are obviously (and others) are dab hands
at this.

Or, perhaps, just a case of correct sequence of software installation?

Regards,
John.

I perhaps should have mentioned that the MSG LSA-SAF products have problems as well. There has been many gaps in the LST /DSLF and DSSF data recently and as was mentioned yesterday some 0 Kb files are coming through, although very often the correct one is received as well.

It may be relevant that since switching on this morning well over an hour ago, no MSG LSA-SAF data has been received.

Thanks, Ian and John.

I've e-mailed both the LSA-SAF and EUMETSAT (knowing that EUMETSAT would contact the LSA-SAF in any case), but if it's pre-operational, then anything could happen, as you say. It didn't say pre-operational in their message: Operations_Weekly_Schedule_20090326143533.txt, so perhaps that's how I missed it.

Perhaps the team have decanted from Portugal to Monaco, to watch the race! <G>
