Marc,

May I recommend taking at least one thermal channel - channel 9 - as
well? That way, you can get a 24-hour image which may help with
animations, and it's particularly useful in the winter time.

The channel selection on EUMETCast is not fine-grained enough to do what
you want be eidting the recv-channels.ini file, as you can see here:

http://www.satsignal.eu/wxsat/atovs/index.html#DataChannels

You need [EUMETSAT Data Channel 2] for any of the HRIT data, so in terms
of reception it's all HRIT data or none. As Rob and Giuseppe have
mentioned, you can lighten the processing load in the MSG Data Manager by
using the Setup, Channel selection function to check Process only for
those channels you want.

Similarly, to get the world-wide geostationary data sent over EUMETCast
you also need [EUMETSAT Data Channel 3], and for the hourly foreign
satellite data (FSD) you also need [EUMETSAT Data Channel 4].

But setting the MSG Data Manager will certainly help with processor load,
RAM usage, and disk space.

Cheers,
David

Hello,
you can set on MsgDataManager which files/channels you want to store : I'm
not in front of my receiving pc, but it should be in setup/advanced...
Ciao
Giuseppe
So you need /only/ HRIT channels 1,2 & 12...
Rob led me to correctly understand your request... ( ciao Rob )
Set "recv-channels.ini" file to receive just "channel 2" ( HRIT ), by
removing the general wildcard ( see how to do on
http://www.satsignal.eu/wxsat/atovs/hints+tips.html ).

Ciao

Giuseppe

But if you want to lighten your processor load edit the recv-channels file, that way it's not making the pc work harder.
Rob.

Tellicast - red icon problem

Nikos Mazarakis

Hi all,

During last month I encounter with the following problem.
From time to time the Tellicast icon goes into red mode without any obvious reason. This can happen 2 times every day or one time during three or four days. As a result the sat images stop to download to my pc and I lose data. The problem is easy solved when I reboot the pc but this means that I should to check it every very often. Have everyone any idea about this?

Nikos

I am receiving shed loads of data to my hard drive
Some of us are getting 30GB a day or more depending on what interests you.
Make sure your hard drive is big enough and schedule some regular
housekeeping. David's 'TrimTree' is an excellent free utility

my question is to understand what data is doing what

To make the most of the different channels you really need GeoSatSignal
from David.
There are whole, fairly indigestible (for amateurs), tutorials on what
is what, but your best bet is to join GEO and get all the back editions
of the Quarterly
, what is the difference between msg-1 and msg-2,

In practical terms very little. MSG2 is the operational geostationary
sat scanning approx one third of the globe centered on the prime
meridian every 15 mins.
MSG1 used to be the operational sat, is now the backup and is currently
used for 5min scanning of Europe.
what is the deifference between the different channels

The various wavelengths tell you different things about the atmosphere
and layers within it. Two vis, 9 IR and one hi res visible
, is it possible to just receive images for the uk for now?
You can set up MSG DM just to take the MSG HRIT data and leave LRIT and
FSD alone ( but why would you?).
Also set up your recv-channels.ini file just to take EUMETSAT Data Channel 2

Have a good read round David's site - there's a great deal of info there.

If you want to know what to do with the data see

Thanks to all who replied. I had a " waiting for segments " report and have
1 missing segment on the 11.15 cycle and 2 on the 11.30 cycle.

As Douglas has mentioned Eumetsat have reported problems on the 11.15 cycle
and it wouldn't surprise me if there was a further report for the 11.30.

All MSG-2 data has been perfect since 11.30 UTC.

Ian.

I take it others are seeing problems with MSG-2 on the 11.15 and 11.30 UTC
cycles.

I have just started today with Eumetcast on Windows 7 with nearly 5 hours
trouble free, so just checking in case.

Regards
Ian.
All 100% here I'm afraid.

Regards
Douglas.
Having said that I see that Eumetsat have just reported problems with LRIT and HRIT on the 11.15 cycle although I am 100%.
So would not worry too much about it.

Regards
Douglas.

MSG-2 1115 and 1130 (and 1145) seem complete here, according to the Tools, Missing Segments Report.

Nikos,
Sorry, I should read more slowly your email. I understand what you are asking. It would be a good idea to join GEO then you have all this information you need, and more. You could always contact Arne direct and ask for his permission then I could send it you direct, I want so much to help you but I don't want to be in trouble sending it without permission!

Nikos,

You should join GEO, and then you can buy a back-issue on CD from the GEO Shop:

http://www.geo-web.org.uk/shop.html

There are some online articles you can find with Google - post #3 here, for example:
