I take it others are seeing problems with MSG-2 on the 11.15 and 11.30 UTC
cycles.

I have just started today with Eumetcast on Windows 7 with nearly 5 hours
trouble free, so just checking in case.

Regards
Ian.
All 100% here I'm afraid.

Regards
Douglas.
Having said that I see that Eumetsat have just reported problems with LRIT and HRIT on the 11.15 cycle although I am 100%.
So would not worry too much about it.

Regards
Douglas.

Ian,

MSG-2 1115 and 1130 (and 1145) seem complete here, according to the Tools, Missing Segments Report.

Nikos,
Sorry, I should read more slowly your email. I understand what you are asking. It would be a good idea to join GEO then you have all this information you need, and more. You could always contact Arne direct and ask for his permission then I could send it you direct, I want so much to help you but I don't want to be in trouble sending it without permission!

Nikos,

You should join GEO, and then you can buy a back-issue on CD from the GEO Shop:

http://www.geo-web.org.uk/shop.html

There are some online articles you can find with Google - post #3 here, for example:

Glad to hear you are getting and enjoying the data!

The MSG Data Manager can show coloured images from a single channel in the Detailed Image tab, providing that GeoSatSignal has been installed and run once on the system. Click on a channel-9 image to make it appear in the Detailed image, and then right-click, Thermal LUT, LUTLandSeaRed

To combine more than one channel, rectify the data to standard map projections, or to add mean sea-level pressure overlays, you can use my GeoSatSignal program.

To get the Metop AVHRR data, it's best to split down the data in your recv-channels.ini file, something like that shown towards the bottom of the Metop Manager Web page:

http://www.satsignal.eu/software/metop_manager.htm

______________________________________________________
[EPS-10]
target_directory=received\EPS-AVHRR
______________________________________________________

Once you point the Metop Manager at the correct directory, including the final backslash, and press the start buitton, the data should begin to be processed within a couple of minutes.

As the Metop images are built up, so is the chunk list.

Prem,

I would be inclined to check:

- from the command line: ipconfig or ipconfig /all and see if there are other devices which might be claiming 192.168.238.238 (before you configure the card). You see a lot of devices, though, including IP V6 ones.

- I don't recall doing anything special from the networks control panel to make the address persist across reboots. Form memory, just uncheck "automatic", enter the IP address and the mask, and click OK. You get a warning about empty DNS or whatever.

Do you have a pink T-icon yet?

Re: Techisat Skystar-2 card revisions and Linux

Purcocks, Graham <grahamp@...>

Arne

Very helpful thanks. Just so others don't bang their heads against a
brick wall. Centos 5 standard kernel does *NOT* contain dvb drivers. So
it was only when I built my own from the link below that I actually got
it to recognise any Skystar 2 card.

I have now actually got Centos 5 to recognise the 2.8A card but szap is
not showing a lock, so I am now suspicious of our LNB/dish so getting it
checked out tomorrow.

I now know how to recognise 5V and 3.3V PCI slots! BTW the 2.8A card is
currently in a 3.3V slot so that will widen the choice of PC hardware if
it actually starts to deliver data!

Will let you know what transpires.

Graham

Hello Graham,

Have heard that the new 2.8 version is both 3.3V and 5V compatible but
uses a different front-end and needs new drivers.
http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-March/024709.html

Maybe the link below can help you.
http://www.dvbskystar.com/
Search for : "2.8 for linux" on that page.

As your are not the first user having problems with this new Skystar 2.8
version, I think we better avoid this version until driver issues are
sorted !

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Hi,

Signal quality is the important reading and should be optimised by accurate
alignment of the dish and LNB skew.
The signal strength readout is really only helpful for initial satellite
finding dish alignment.

I think you are receiving the media broadcast colour bars test card so you
could very gently tweak the dish alignment and LNB skew (not at the same
time) for maximum signal quality readout.

John.

Angus,

Yes, I can believe it! In the past, with EUMETCast, we have sometimes found that Intel processors (and chipsets) to better than AMD in certain circumstances, although it's been difficult (if not impossible) to tie such circumstances down. Similarly, some systems seem to cause problems.

It would therefore be interesting to see a comparison between your working and non-working systems:

- processor
- memory
- motherboard
- chipset
- memory
- disk size and connection
- network connection
- operating system
- DVB connection
- CPU load
- memory load

and anything else you can think of!
