Re: HRV Channel 12
The strange anomaly is in fact present on all the 14.30 images andcan be seen between approx. 16° - 20° S latitude. A small blip in the SEVIRI or probably software. Yes, same here, Scanner or scan position sensor. Is this the region that was hammered by the mini-scans the other day? The FSD data is not coming in timeously at the moment."timeously" - Scottish? Meaning on-time (I am told). One wonders if eventually channel 3 may need a bandwidth tweak.I think you are correct - perticularly when all the other goodies are added like 30-minute Met-5 and Met-7 data next year. Changing the bandwidth would not have been possible if direct dissemination from MSG-1 were in use, so again many thanks to the SSPA designer! Cheers, David

What I am not clear on is whether the software specifically relates to the dongle or to the Tellique package - which many of us already have. I would hope that EUMETSAT have a record of our previous purchase, but as in my case this went directly to Tellique I'm not sure, although they did issue me with the free upgrade. What pixel location or lat and lon? "Africa" covers a fair number of pixels! The only thing I can see is that the switch from lower window to upper window seems a little less "clean" than usual. However, the 1415 and 1445 images look similar. Segment loss would cause a break of 464 lines in the image. If you have the Clear images box checked, that 464 lines should show as a black area, with precisely horizontal edges, and exactly 464 lines high. I mention this in detail because sometimes there are gaps in the Foreign Satellite Data which do _not_ have exactly horizontal edges, and these gaps are caused by gaps in the unrectified source data. The gap in the source has edges in the plane of the scan, but the scan plane may not be parallel to the equator because of the inclination of the orbit. When the rectified image is viewed, the scan gaps are no longer horizontal. I expect you already knew this, but others may not. Cheers, David

Re: HRV Channel 12
Strangely enough segment loss on LRIT has been extremely rare, buttoday the 12.00 Met 5 images were terrible with segments 5-10 missing on the visible and segment 5 missing on both IR and WV, presumably all part of my problem. No, same here. I see the Met-5 12:00 segments coming in since 15:00...... Can't comment on HRV right now. David

Re: Address Change

Hi All,
Colin Cuthbert, Met Office, rang me and explained that if anyone changes their address during the MSG Licence period, they should let him know in the first instance. He would then update the details with EUMETSAT & the Met Office, and a new Licence would then be issued free of charge. I'm impressed that he rang me back so quickly. 73 de Wayne M5WJF

M5WJF <m5wjf.qthr@...>
Hi All,
Yes, it was a nice surprise this morning. I've left a voice mail message with Colin Cuthbert, Met Office, requesting details of whether an address change within the free three year MSG Licence Period will attract any cost/difficulty. I'm likely to be moving house early next year and decided to ask. I'll let everyone know what I find out. 73 de Wayne M5WJF

This confuses me - the cost, as I understaood it, was 60 Euros for the Tellique software and 40 Euros for the eToken and it's runtime environment. You may want to check just what you get for the 100 Euros - perhaps it includes the Tellique software you already have. BTW: if you are running the V4.2.8 drivers - watch out. Perhaps it was just me, but I had awful problems with the eToken and the V4.2.8 drivers - the system would randomly stop working after 3 - 72 hours. We went through a lot of pain to discover just what the problem was, upgrades of the Tellique software, upgrades and debug versions of the eToken runtime environment, putting the eToken on a USB extender cable in case it wasn't seating properly. This on a 550MHz Pentium III. In the end, I got a second eToken, and built a second 1GHz Pentium III PC with a new SkyStar card. No problems with the rebuilt configuration. I then put the original SkyStar card and USB eToken into another PC (2.8GHz Pentium 4), got a splitter to feed both, and have no problems with that configuration. Go figure! No such mail here as yet, just the Tax bill for last year and half of next year.... Firewalls and MSG DM
Lawrence <lawrence@...>
Well - its solved! On every occasion in the past, I have not been able
to get the home network computers to talk to each other when the XP firewall is enabled. I had spent hours trying to crack the problem. All settings were correct and the names etc were fine; just didn't work. I decided to have one more try - after reading the responses - and guess what! Yes, it now works without the slightest hitch. In order to use MSG DM across a home network, I have had todisable the XP Pro firewall. When it is enabled, the other computers on the network cannot see the main (processing) computer. Does anyone know whether the MS firewall can be taught that the internal network is OK? I have not found any reference to this in MS help files. I've seen no problems with this. I run a router, which could provide DHCP addresses, although I have actually made the PCs have static addresses. All the PCs run Zone Alarm, and the only setting required is to say "trust the local network", which it sets by default in any case. Each PC has the appropriate entry in \system32 \drivers\etc\hosts to enable it to find the other PCs. I run a workgroup, and not a domain. You should be aware that the XP Firewall only works to block incoming requests, if a virus gets on your system it can do what it wants. IMHO, it's better to use Zone Alarm which allows you to specifically control which programs have access to the local network and which have access to the Internet. On my Receiver PC I have allowed access for Setup4PC, Server4PC and TQrecv. There was no need to enable special access for the MSG Data Manager on the Processing PC. Cheers, David

I
Exactly the same here James. I have 2 computers on a simple (cross over)LOL Douglas! Yes indeed - I now consider myself to be a network expert because of all the problems I have had at one point or another!! The only thing is, I haven't a clue as to how they work, but if your problem happens to have matched mine - then of course I am an expert at that point!! My network regularly goes down, I've had to re-install drivers for the access points, rename connections that for some strange reason become connection 3, followed by connection 4 etc. Discover that I hadn't logged all the computers in the same workgroup, unplug devices which have inexplicably locked up - usually on the wife's computer - , mains blips which have hung up the router, and in terms of re-booting - I am the King!!
