Hi Arne and All,

Nope, - as you suggest it just seems to be a general configuration
updating for EUORBIRD-9A.

The 'Ramdisk free' version I'm informed is still under development and will
not be available for some time.

No doubt you and David will receive a sneak pre-release copy to try?

Regards,
John.

Guy,

As it includes copyright software, I think that is unlikely. You can already get the EUROBIRD-9 updates via FTP.

My system is running quite happily under TELLICAST 2.4.4.B.

We have a saying in the UK "If it ain't (is not) broke - don't try to fix

So I probably will not upgrade.

However, I've emailed Ops to find out just what the improvements in V5.5

Nicola,

I'm delighted to hear that your USB box is working well.

I wrote a small program called DVBreport.exe which you can use for MRTG and it's described here. It doesn't do BER, though.

As you have the EUMETSAT V5.5 CD, which version of TelliCast is included? It shows on the top line of the HTML shell.

Thanks Ian for the clarification.

I do wonder if this V5.5 does contain the long awaited Tellicast version
that does not need a RAMdisk anymore.
We have unofficial not heard of a release pending.
But this version might contain the new Eurobird/transponder settings
pre-installed.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle
I received V5.4 late last year and that did not have the Tellicast software
that does away with the RAMdisk.
Basically new Eurobird stuff etc.
As the software is working well on my receive computer, I chose to leave
well alone !
Incidentally today I saw my highest signal yet on Eurobird 9A (and it was
overcast). Still cyclic but at times getting close to what Eurobird 9 provided.

Regards
Douglas.

Welcome to the group!

You will find more information about receiving EUMETCast on the Group for
Earth Observation's Web site:

http://www.geo-web.org.uk/quickstart.html

and it's well worth becoming a member of GEO:

http://www.geo-web.org.uk/join.html

My own site has a guide as well, slightly dated now:

http://www.satsignal.eu/wxsat/atovs/index.html

You can use either a single-PC or a dual-PC system. Dual is great if you
have the resources, but with a well-configured single PC, as powerful as
today's PCs are, you will likely get excellent results. Today, I would
recommend the USB DVB Receiver box as sold by GEO - it works well and
seems very reliable. A USB 2.0 hi-speed connection is required on your
PC. You will need another USB port for the dongle which EUMETSAT provide
to control data access - you buy this from EUMETSAT in conjunction with
the TelliCast software.

Yes, my MSG Data Manager software will give you the basic images (other
people also supply software), and there is additional data such as
cloud-top height available once you have registered. Files from the
TelliCast software are in an encoded and segmented format, hence the need
for the MSG Data Manager. For amateurs and educational use, the data is
free. The cloud-top-height data is sent in GRIB format, and I do offer a
viewer for that format as well. Details on my Web site.

Cheers,
David

All,

I see my copying of EUMETSAT's message didn't come out in italics as posted
- hence one user already has requested the update via these groups.

So, if you require the TELLICAST V5.5 upgrade - and are a registered
EUMETCast user - you need to email

ops@eumetsat.int (mailto:ops@eumetsat.int)

not GEO or MSG-1 or GEO-Subs.

Sorry for the confusion.

John Tellick.

EUMETCast license renewal.

geojohnt@...

All,

I've been asked by EUMTSAT to remind EUMETCast users that the old paper UK
licences are now about to expire - if they have not already done so.
[This may also be the case for other parts of Europe?]

To maintain reception of EUMETCast you need to re-register [no charge]
using the EUMETCast registration form [available (with guide) on the GEO
website] fully ticking the services you already are receiving.
This opportunity can also be used to include additional services added
since your original registration that you would like to receive.

Regards,
John Tellick.

Yes, I found that as well, Ian. It's a consequence of the MSG Data Manager being designed for real-time operation, and not wanting to replace newer data with older.

It appears that the outage was missed at first because of the Easter break.
