Re: Eumetsat Software Installation Problems

jaap.poelman <jaap.poelman@...>

I hope somebody can help. I have been running the whether programs
from Eutelsat and David Taylor until April when a memory card gave up.
I am running a single computer with an Asus N4L-VM DH I s479 n4l-vm dh
viiv matx motherboard with Intel Pentium m t2300e 1660 mhz s479 dual
core 65 nm fsb667 cpu 31 watt. And a Sata 320gb hard disk, only used
for receiving the whether.
After replacing new memory cards I suffer the same problems as Bob
Wolk (message 10495) The Tellicast program shows a yellow icon even
after re-formatting and newly installing windows and all the
software. The status of the receiver is Green. Network: aquiring-No
Information. Signal Quality 70%. No firewall installed. IP and PIDs
alright.

CMA Data

Ian Deans <isdeans1.-_@...>

Further to yesterday's mail, I have been advised that the CMA data is to
start on Eumetcast from Monday 24/11/08.

Presumably this will be detailed in the " Operations Weekly Schedule " which
will be available from this afternoon.

Eumetsat Media News had said that the data was now available ( 19/11/08 )
hence the slight misunderstanding.

Regards
Ian.

HOTBIRD 9

Ian Deans <isdeans1.-_@...>

I see the launch of HOTBIRD 9 ( and W2M ) has now been delayed to 10th
December.

Some may wonder why I have mentioned this, but once HOTBIRD 9 is launched /
commissioned and operational at 13 E, HOTBIRD 7A is to move to the 9 E slot
and will take over some of the duties of Eurobird 9 ( HOTBIRD 2 ) including
Eumetcast.

Regards
Ian.

Daniel,

In my case, there are three or four PCs all feeding the 22KHz signal, so I haven't yet seen a problem. The likelihood of all four signals being at the correct phase and amplitude to exactly cancel out is remote. Solutions:

- you really should replace the splitter with one where only one path has the DC and control signal pass-through.

Failing that, you might be able to:

- use a second splitter in the hope of attenuating one of the 22KHz signals a little further

- use the settings on the SkyStar setup to stop one of the cards generating the 22KHz signal. I haven't done this myself so I can't advise further. I hear that you can do this manually in Setup4PC or by defining the LNB to have only a 10.6HGz local oscillator.

Cheers,
David

Oh, that's good to hear, Ian. The MSG Data Manager has been ready for
this data for some time, and I have also prepared a viewer for the
associated meteorological data which is included with the CMA stream.

Thanks for the advice David re the viewer. I have sent off a mail to OPS requesting the CMA Data so will download your program as soon as registration is confirmed.

Hello Orlando,

If your system runs fine with 4.3.0 or 4.4.0 no update is required.
In some cases an upgrade from 4.3.0 to 4.4.1 or higher does lower PCI
bus latency and can help solve missing segments on lower spec or
heavily loaded PCs.

Please note that 4.4.1 will not install on XP SP3 although it runs
fine if you install it under SP2 and then upgrade to SP3 !

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

There has certainly been no mention of this on the Weekly Schedule so

Unfortunately I have been unable to check this as yet due to other
commitments ( like ADSL and 'phone line problems ).

Will report back if I get an opportunity to check although I

David and I have been testing the CMA data for a long time and the quality
of FY 2C has deteriorated.
IR images have always seem 'blurred', the only expression that best
describes the appearance. More recently there have been serious problems
with the 1km full disk high resolution VIS. A mail from one of the Chinese
staff has confirmed that a detector has failed and every second scan line is
missing .... this can cause some strange image anomalies. The normal VIS
image seems very light as well.
Nevertheless the hourly data is an excellent addition to the FSD suite.
However the good news is that FY 2E is due to launch in December (although I
cannot find any confirmatory updates on this) and after commissioning this
will take over from FY 2C (at 105 E). Although FY 2D is active at 86.5 E
it appears that it will not be used to replace FY 2C and has other duties.

Hope that helps and pleased to see that the data has been released.

Regards
Douglas.

Yes, I am doing something similar, see:

http://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/performance_eumetcast-snr.php

However, this is not good practice, particularly on Eurobird-9, where the two 22KHz signals may cancel out from time to time, and stop the LNB from switching to the required high-band frequency.

Can anyone tell me the significance of the blue LED on the DVBWorld
USB Box flashing? Is it an error or diagnostic message?

Clive
I've had the same problem from new - I thought I had a defective box
at first!

As Arne suggests, it does appear to be related to power draw (or at
least that's one of the causes) since I get a flashing blue LED as
soon as I apply power to the box while the dish is connected. While
it's flashing it won't respond to the USB connection. If I disconnect
& reconnect the coax then all works well. I have two dishes, one with
a DiseqC positioner inline and one without, and this only happens with
the positioner (which works fine following disconnect/reconnect).
Hence my assumption about power draw, although it only occurs while
the power is actually coming up. Unfortunately the condition then latches.

I've put a coax switch inline to save unscrewing those wretched
F-types each time I power it up, but it's not very satisfactory. Glad
to hear that others have similar problems!

Successful Move to EuroBird.

Andrew Hall <ajwhall@...>

Hi to the Group.

I am pleased to report that I have successfully move my dish here in
Leipzig, Germany to Eurobird 9. Stats are as follow using Skystar 2
PCI card & a 80 cm dish:

Signal Quality 67% (hotbird was 60%)

Signal Strength when clear 48% but when overcast jumps between 48%
and 33%. The weather was clear here over night and the figure
remained at 48%. So I am sure this is weather related but will
monitor this. However when the dish was on Hotbird the signal
strength was also 33% so this is an improvement for me when at 48%!

SNR 8.9 (hotbird was 7.5)

On the whole I am happy with these new figures.

**Message for David**

David I have the MRTG up and running including the signal strength
which is most interesting. I will let things run for 48 hours to
make sure I have ironed out any problems and will then drop you a
mail with all the links etc, which I will also post a link on the
forum for the Group to view. It was most rewarding when the figures
started showing on the graphs!!

Most Kindest Regards,

Andrew Hall

Hello Orlando,

Signal level readout has been added in Technisatdrivers 4.4.1 or higher.
Older version do not offer this readout.
