Date

New Data

Ian Deans <isdeans1.-_@...>

According to Eumetsat Media News new data is available on Eumetcast from today including CMA data from China.

There has certainly been no mention of this on the Weekly Schedule so I find this a little surprising.

Unfortunately I have been unable to check this as yet due to other commitments ( like ADSL and 'phone line problems ).

Will report back if I get an opportunity to check although I understand that the CMA data is of poor quality due to a failing satellite.

Regards
Ian.

Yes, I am doing something similar, see:

http://www.satsignal.eu/mrtg/performance_eumetcast-snr.php

However, this is not good practice, particularly on Eurobird-9, where the two 22KHz signals may cancel out from time to time, and stop the LNB from switching to the required high-band frequency.

Cheers,

I've had the same problem from new - I thought I had a defective box
at first!

As Arne suggests, it does appear to be related to power draw (or at
least that's one of the causes) since I get a flashing blue LED as
soon as I apply power to the box while the dish is connected. While
it's flashing it won't respond to the USB connection. If I disconnect
& reconnect the coax then all works well. I have two dishes, one with
a DiseqC positioner inline and one without, and this only happens with
the positioner (which works fine following disconnect/reconnect).
Hence my assumption about power draw, although it only occurs while
the power is actually coming up. Unfortunately the condition then latches.

I've put a coax switch inline to save unscrewing those wretched
F-types each time I power it up, but it's not very satisfactory. Glad
to hear that others have similar problems!

Successful Move to EuroBird.

Andrew Hall <ajwhall@...>

Hi to the Group.

I am pleased to report that I have successfully move my dish here in
Leipzig, Germany to Eurobird 9. Stats are as follow using Skystar 2
PCI card & a 80 cm dish:

Signal Quality 67% (hotbird was 60%)

Signal Strength when clear 48% but when overcast jumps between 48%
and 33%. The weather was clear here over night and the figure
remained at 48%. So I am sure this is weather related but will
monitor this. However when the dish was on Hotbird the signal
strength was also 33% so this is an improvement for me when at 48%!

SNR 8.9 (hotbird was 7.5)

On the whole I am happy with these new figures.

**Message for David**

David I have the MRTG up and running including the signal strength
which is most interesting. I will let things run for 48 hours to
make sure I have ironed out any problems and will then drop you a
mail with all the links etc, which I will also post a link on the
forum for the Group to view. It was most rewarding when the figures
started showing on the graphs!!

Most Kindest Regards,

Andrew Hall

Hello Orlando,

Signal level readout has been added in Technisatdrivers 4.4.1 or higher.
Older version do not offer this readout.

Hi Orlando,

As Alan says, just put in N/A in the signal level box.

I had a similar 'anomaly' with the form as I left the SNR box empty - since
I have a DVBWorld box which doesn't show this.
I was redirected back to the original page and informed I had to put N/A in
that box.

Clive,

I switch my two DVBWorld boxes on and off frequently and haven't had this
problem.
It's reassuring to know Ian has had similar problems but the box still works
well.

Hopefully this is just a couple of isolated incidents?

John.

Re: DVBWorld USB box diagnostics

Ian Deans <isdeans1.-_@...>

Hello Alan,

My knowledge on electronics is NIL, but why would the light be constantly on for 11 months and then start to go on/ off intermittently. Nothing has changed in my set up in the last 3 weeks or so ( I have been on Eurobird 9 for 3 months ) and although on a one computer system I continue to have no segment / chunk losses.

I am wondering if the LED light problem might be a weakness in these boxes, but only time will tell and fortunately the light problem has no effect on performance, which is outstanding.

On this computer a SkyStar card was giving me many losses, so when David installed his spare Dexatek Box here last Xmas and losses completely stopped I was rather pleased.

Regards
Ian.

Clearly a fault has developed with the light / circuit but the box continues

annoying.

I would therefore expect that your flashing light is a fault, but should not
adversely affect its performance.

Hi Arne,
Yes,I know that my Monoblock work with disecq2 but my reseller say that
it is compatible also with disecq 1.0 (skystar2 is disecq1)
Technisat has confirm me that skystar2 is not able to command with disecq2.
Also I've just try with eumetsat tools but I've not switch off the
server4pc....later I'll try this new solution.
Thank's again for the help.
Have a nice day

It does not use server4PC (you have to close down server4PC
momentarily) and may get more functionality out of the Skystar2.

Good luck,

Hi Harry,
Yes it is one to receice two sat.
About the aperture:it is a 4 degrees ,for HB13 and EB9.
On first (main) out I'll receive HB13 (like my old setup with single
LNB) and on second out I receive EB9.
The problem is that I don't receive any signal (0 %) on Main out (the
same position of my single LNB), even on secondary out I receive EB9
in
the righ manner.
Perhaps may be a problem on disecq command that skystar2 is not able

Hello Clive,

Have not seen my LED flashing before, nor can I find it mentioned in
the userguide.
I am guessing on a power issue, restart it with only power adapter
connected.
A short circuit in USB or coaxial cable may cause the power supply to
current limit and flash the LED ?
