Hello James,

I asked Ops at the beginning of the year about this and was informed both
stations should be online by the end of the year.

According to information we heard during lectures on the GEO visit to
EUMETSAT in July this is still the case.

They have also been busy continuing commissioning of Metop-A and 'the
anomalies' not to mention several 'goodies' coming our way with services and
updates.

John.

I was just wondering if folk knew if Eumetsat were still planning to implement further AVHRR coverage by means of the Athens and Kangerlussuaq stations at some point. Possibly with the success of METOP this has been either given a low priority or removed from the immediate 'to do' list.

The info page indicates that Kangerlussuaq was expected in July - Athens in the last quarter of this year.

Just curious

John,

It seems that, under some circumstances, the hardware in the SkyStar card does not actually have the same PIDs enabled as the software displays. Sometimes selecting a different satellite and re-selcting EUMETCast cures this, at other times a complete power-down is required. If in doubt, switch off, wait for 30 seconds, switch back on. It may just cure the problem.

I had something like this with some DWDSAT being missing - PID 302 decimal.

Experiences?

Hello Bernd,

I have been testing a Technotrend Connect S2400 USB2.0 box for
months
now. This one is identical to the Skystar USB Plus. The drivers
are
developed by Technotrend, even on the Skystar version !
But Technisat is way behind with driver updates, their latest is
BDA
1072. This driver does not install properly and warns at every
reboot
that my USB port is not 2.0 compatible (it really is !)
Only the latest BDA1075 driver from Technotrend solves these
problems.
Unfortunately you cannot interchange the drivers between
Technotrend
and Technisat because of different hardware ID.

To make a long story short, after 4 driver updates it does handle
the
full EUMETCast data stream now. Even the high volume MetOp AVHRR
and IASI
But compared to the Technisat Skystar2 PCI I notice higher CPU
usage
(must be the extra USB layer).

Drawbacks of the USB2.0 box
- Driver works only on windows XP SP2, you have to install the
complete package including TV viewer to get the data service
application.
- You have to enter all transponder parameters and PIDs once as
the
EUMETCast service is not pre-configured.
- Tools like SkyDSL_status, bs2status, b2settuner don't work on
these
receivers. So no signal quality statistics with MRTG.
- Signal quality readout is always 100%, Signal level reads as
88%, no
Signal to Noise or BER readout.

The good thing is that I have never seen it loose lock after
transponder glitches or rain fades so you don't need "retuning"
after
signal loss.

Greetings,
Arne van Belle

Hello to all
Sorry for the delay
I changed PC to make operate the System EumetCast

Type of processor: Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHzs (15 x 200)
Name of the motherboard: MSI MS-7042
Chipset of the motherboard: VIA Apollo P4X533/PT800/PT880
Type of BIOS: Award (03/02/05)
Name of the motherboard MSI MS-7042
Hard disk: WDC WD1600LB-55EDA0 (149 Go, IDE)
Ram: DDR-1 1,5 Gi

The system functions very well, even with only one hard disk
and without RAMdisk.

I look in opportunity for a P4 simple heart in socket 775 to replace mine on the
PC that doesn't function.

Thank you to all for your help, especially in Arne van Belle and David Taylor

my regards and good day

The NHC reports the formation of Tropical Depression 4 at approximately

Computer modelling is currently suggesting that this may develop to a

At the moment this is well within Meteosat 9's range and may provide

Well worth a watch.
