Saturday Night Net Results #simplex-results

K4PEW Paul Wieloszynski <k4pew@...>

See/Hear the Saturday Night's Net HERE.

Two good things happened Saturday:
- The Simplexton (twice monthly, as some are wont to call it, semi-monthly) Breakfast went swimmingly with 16 in attendance. Some were even awake.
- Secondly, the net went swimmingly as well, with the following results:

36 check-ins on 146.415 FM
14 check-ins on 144.240 USB
12 check-ins on 50.135 USB

Steve, I'm no help on suggestions for getting it repaired, but I will tell you that there is no activity on the 1.25M band in this area. Is it possible that its actually still working but just no one listening? I have a tri band mobile that will operate on 1.25M but I've never heard anyone else on any of the 222 MHz frequencies.

Hello everybody, I have had a Jetstream JT220M sitting in the original box that works fine except for no transmit power for about 10 years. Jetstream now longer will repair it. Does anybody know where I can have it repaired? Steve

Larry ,

Thanks, I’ll take a look at it and see how it compares to the code plug that the Stones River ARC gave me. I’m looking at Hot Spots so I don’t have to be dependent upon Repeaters for everything.

Hi,
I've participated in several of the recent nets and discovered your group.I have a BF8hp and just bought a anyone 878 II PLUS and been struggling to build and install a code plug from several sources. I could use some expert ELMER advice to figure out what I'm doing wrong .

If anyone would be willing to meet up and show me how to accomplish building and installing a code plug I'd be appreciative. My email is Irish911@... or I can be reached at 6158122181.

Thanks

Wednesday Simplexton Net Results #simplex-results

See/Hear Wednesday Night's Simplex Net here.

A good time was had by all on Wednesday evening's net with the following results:

2m FM had 40 check-ins, but was originally 39, but because of the "no rule" rule, the after-net check-in had to be allowed.
10 m USB had a whopping 16 check-ins with good conditions.

Local nets

KK5S Carey

Good morning everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to reach out to say thank you to all of our local nets here in Middle TN. We take for granted how fortunate we are in this area. We have the choices for several Simplex nets, WCARES, MTEARS and various other nets available. During any sort of weather or possible emergency conditions we have a net available for communications outside of the standard commercial radio and TV networks. The folks here in Middle TN are active and ready to assist in any condition.

The reason I am writing this is I recently went to visit family out west. During my visit I looked around to see if I could find a local net to participate in. In a city of nearly 300,000 people I only found one net listed for the area. It was a local weekly ARES net. Sounds promising. I had made a few calls on that local repeater but did not get any reply’s. At the scheduled time for the net, I tuned in both to participate and for information. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be an ARES net.

At the same time as the net, the city was under an actual Tornado Warning with reports of a tornado touching down in the area approx. 20 miles to the west of my location. We were experiencing hail, golf ball size where I was to reports of 4” in the area around the rotation of the storm. I did have minor damage to my truck and the hail even punched a few holes in the fabric bed cover. I realize that perhaps everyone was in storm shelters, but when the net started they gave the normal script for the net and being a controlled net. Nothing was ever mentioned at all about the fact there was an actual weather emergency at that time and there was no  mention any possible activation of the ARES net for the area if the situation changed. Nothing.

During the 10 minutes or less of the entire net there were only 6 local check ins. Net control confirmed each person that checked in, and then closed the net completely unconcerned about the ongoing weather or any possible need for monitoring the situation. I was so much in shock that I didn’t even try to check in at that point. According to the map I was only about 3 miles from the repeater so I know I heard all of the minimal activity on the air.

I wanted to share this just because we are actually sort of spoiled with our amateur activity in this area and presume that everyone has as much activity as we do. I’m grateful that we have such a great amateur community in this area. So again, THANK YOU to all of the local net organizers and groups that we have to choose from here in this area.

Re: Help with Anytime code plugs

K3MPR Mike Ramsey

Larry,

I’ve watched several of the videos and some are really good at explaining how to build codes. Luckily I had Marvin with the Stones River Club help explain and install a code plug using Excel to modify the code plug then importing it. I’m looking forward to meeting more Ham Radio People so that I can avoid making most of the rookie mistakes.

I’m thinking that my next purchase is going to be a hotspot so that I don’t have to depend on a local repeater to use my DMR radio from home.

Thanks

Mike R KO4QHE

Mike, You can go to srarctn.org and download the code plug. Then you can compare yours to it.
