Re: FCC Friendly Reminder?

So what band should be used to aid in the commission of a crime?  Give me a break!

The FCC allows  millions of unrestricted Chinese programmable radios to be sold but warns that they are not to be used outside their Part 15 ham band limits.  Even though the user needs to do nothing to transmit on your local PD, Fire, EMS or other Part 90/95 etc. service.   There is no way to put the cat back in the bag.
How did they not see this coming?  The preppers are "shaking" in their combat boots.

Of course it does make it a federal offense to use a radio to aid in the act of defiance or insurrection as if the DOJ needed another reason to charge a perp.

This is just another government finger wag at the citizens!  Hams have done pretty well self regulating our spectrum over the last 100+ years despite the FCC frenzy to turn spectrum into cash.  If the Fed was selling Yellowstone off one acre at a time the public would be irate but when they sell off spectrum they think the evil corporations should pay up, not thinking it's why their cell phone bill is more than their electric bill.

FCC notice here.

None of these announcements have anything to do with expressing opinions on the air, at least on Simplex.  At issue is criminal activity.

Obviously, a repxxter owner can prohibit anyone from using the repxxter for ANY reason, political or otherwise. Simplex has no such restrictions.

These announcements by the FCC and ARRL seem to stem from the recent unrest, but where has the FCC been for the past year?

Why would the ARRL double-down on what we already know.

And, not everyone with a Ham Radio license belongs to ARRL, so only ~160,000 member of the Ham community would get the notice out of ~772,000 licensees.  Maybe that is why the FCC now requires us to give them an e-mail address as we move forward.

Not to worry, as Simplex Radio may be The Last Bastion of Free Speech in America!!

FCC Friendly Reminder?

I know this message is pretty much self-explanatory, but they should inform us of the specific penalties so that we have an incentive to comply. Also, am pretty sure all of us know that we ALWAYS must comply with the law and FCC Part 95 if we are to keep our licenses. They must think we have really short memories.

Federal Communications Commission
DA 21-73
Released:  January 17, 2021

FCC ENFORCEMENT ADVISORY
WARNING:  AMATEUR AND PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES LICENSEES AND OPERATORS MAY NOT USE RADIO EQUIPMENT TO COMMIT OR FACILITATE CRIMINAL ACTS
The Enforcement Bureau (Bureau) of the Federal Communications Commission issues this Enforcement Advisory to remind licensees in the Amateur Radio Service, as well as licensees and operators in the Personal Radio Services, that the Commission prohibits the use of radios in those services to commit or facilitate criminal acts.

The Bureau has become aware of discussions on social media platforms suggesting that certain radio services regulated by the Commission may be an alternative to social media platforms for groups to communicate and coordinate future activities.  The Bureau recognizes that these services can be used for a wide range of permitted purposes, including speech that is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.  Amateur and Personal Radio Services, however, may not be used to commit or facilitate crimes.

Specifically, the Bureau reminds amateur licensees that they are prohibited from transmitting “communications intended to facilitate a criminal act” or “messages encoded for the purpose of obscuring their meaning.” 47 CFR § 97.113(a)(4).
Likewise, individuals operating radios in the Personal Radio Services, a category that includes Citizens Band radios, Family Radio Service walkie-talkies, and General Mobile Radio Service, are prohibited from using those radios “in connection with any activity which is against Federal, State or local law.” 47 CFR § 95.333(a).
Individuals using radios in the Amateur or Personal Radio Services in this manner may be subject to severe penalties, including significant fines, seizure of the offending equipment, and, in some cases, criminal prosecution. 47 U.S.C. §§ 401, 501, 503, 510.

I had great transmit and receive on 2 meter but when I changed to 446 I could hear you fine but was not able to transmit where you could pick it up. I then no you may have heard something but not enough volume or clarity to understand.
Do you think it is the wide band disconnect antenna (Comet DS-150S), or did I need to change a setting on the Yaesu FT-991A?

Re: Advice on grounding for Outdoor Antenna #antennas

just finished adding the ground rod and bonding it to my utility grounding rod. Got a bigger enclosure as well I think it should be big enough  it’s an 8x8x4.

It was actually a lot easier than I was anticipating.

thank you both again !
