Wed.19.8 zoom
Frank promised an advance email with the link, but I can't find it. I went to the webpage at 21.15 when my boating one finished, and played silly games with the captcha jigsaw, and gave up. Roderick

Hello Rod, You did need to register first, to be supplied with the link. To get the email with the link you needed to register your interest at the LRRSA web site. Everyone who attended the meeting needed to do that including all the committee members and the presenter. The only exception was the host of the meeting. About 60 people registered and most of them attended. Regards, Frank On 19/08/2020 9:24 pm, Roderick Smith via groups.io wrote:

Hi Roderick,
You were not the only one who missed out, I forgot to register too. Geoff Winkler. |

Many thanks for helping me to get Zoom going on my Apple iMAC before the meeting. The key was installing "Zoom for Safari” (not regular Zoom) from the App Store. However, I never received any meeting notification. When I registered for training that should have included the meeting, but unfortunately did not. Hopefully will be able to attend next Zoom meeting for LRRSA. Regards, Warren Munson

The link was sent out in the form of a .ics file (calendar file). Perhaps next time it would be good if the link was also sent out in just a plain email (not inside a file).

I was surprised to see an ics too. I shall pass this onto Mike. John On Thu, 20 Aug 2020, 11:27 am Floyd Bromley, <floyd.bromley@...> wrote:

Thank you very much Floyd.
I think you might be right. The
organisers will discuss it at our post mortem meeting.

Frank

Hello Warren,
Very sorry to hear that. Your name and email address were definitely included in the invitation to the meeting email which was sent out on Monday night. Maybe it ended up in your Junk folder, or maybe got lost somewhere.
The organisers will shortly be having a post-mortem on the event to examine the problems, and yours will be on the list. I think it means that in future we will have to send out a follow-up email after the invitation to make sure everybody received it.
Regards,
Frank

That’s interesting and puzzling! Most had no issue but some did. Floyd would you mind forwarding to me either the email you received and/or a screen shot of it please. A few others have said the same thing. My email is mike.mccarthy51@....
Cheers, Mike

Hello everyone.

G’day Mike,
I have sent you a personal email showing the email advice I received. You
will see that the formatting of the message was very poor, and when this email
was received, it was not immediately clear to me the purpose of this email, and
consequently I did not attend the webinar.
Best regards
Bruce Wood

FYI, my invite came up as a meeting request in my mail
client, Outlook 2003. I accepted it and the event went in my Outlook
Calendar. The event description in the calendar had all the detail that
was needed to access the meeting, which I did. Hope this helps to
understand what is was like at the receiver's end.
Living in CCanberra, this was only the 3rd Melbourne
meeting I was able to partake in. The other two were many years ago when I
happened to be in Melbourne for work on separate occasions. I found the
Zoom meeting very worthwhile.
Thanks,
Stephen Cox

In my case I received and responded to the issue file. It loaded the meeting in my calender ok but then the email with the zoom details disappeared. Fortunately I found it hiding in the deleted files folder so resurrected it OK.
I really enjoyed the meeting. Congrats to Mike for a job well done. Some real head scratchers in Franks presentation. I hope you do it again. It gives members away from the main centres a chance to interact and put names to faces.
Well done and many thanks,
Rob Bushby

How was the reply given to the advance email: manually or automated?
Why even have the requirement? I had expected automated at 21.15, with the meeting still in progress. My aviation club is leading the field with frequency, variety and convenience. The link is sent out in advance, and we are on our honour not to share it with nonmembers. My boating clubs come in second. The link is sent out in advance, and we are welcome to share with members of kindred clubs. My mother's nursing home comes in third. The link is sent out in advance. SRSV has had one online meeting. The link was sent out in advance. LRRSA had the right idea, but with unnecessary convolution. Has this one been recorded, and is available online? My aviation and boat clubs do that, as does a railway youtuber with his topic presentations. Roderick |

The organisers of the meeting will shortly be reviewing everything about the meeting, what went well and what needs improving. This will include the way the link is sent to people who have registered to attend the meeting. We will be considering all the feedback we have received from those who attended, and those who were unable to attend.
