Re: The very earliest Malcolm Moore Fordson-powered rail tractors relied on the tractor gearbox for reverse, hence having only one gear in that direction. There is no evidence (of which I am aware) for these early models ever carrying TACL plates, but they did have "Malcolm Moore" cast into the buffing weights. Many other features were however carried over into the TACL design, including the axle box and chain cog castings. The Australian patent for the TACL-type was taken out in the name of Malcolm Moore in 1924, and the Australian 'Tractor Appliance Company Limited' was clearly patterned on the American Company of the same name established by Henry Ford in 1922.
