DH Lawrence stayed at Thirroul and situated part of his novel ‘Kangaroo’ there.
He has a nice description of a nearby colliery jetty and the steam loco that ran on it.

You can walk the IH&LC line from the Kanahooka smelter as far as Fowlers Rd
as the easement still exists, roadworks and housing development have
obliterated just about everything west of the main line
